It’s Not Just His Liver . . . It’s His Heart.

It’s Not Just His Liver . . . It’s His Heart.
This week has been a bit of a roller coaster.  We left Illinois knowing that Tony had some sort of liver disease.  Our thought was that we could get some ideas on how to control/stop the continued liver disease, find out how he got it, etc.  After a battery of initial tests, everything is pointing to his heart.  His heart is actually causing liver disease....

I was afraid to go into a Laundromat.

I was afraid to go into a Laundromat.
We had a super early appointment yesterday morning.  Like, get up at 5:00 a.m. to get to our appointment.  Here’s the kicker.  We couldn’t enter the same Mayo Clinic main entrance as we did the previous day because the hour of our appointment.  Luckily as we got to Mayo, there were a couple of cabbies who pointed us in the right direction.  But here is...

Day 1 At Mayo . . . Are We At A Hotel?

Day 1 At Mayo . . . Are We At A Hotel?
So we had our first day at Mayo, and all I can say is . . . WOW.  We met our shuttle bus down in our lobby.  Totally on time to the minute.  We get to Mayo and the shuttle bus pulls in and the first thing I think of is, are we checking into a high end hotel?!  There were three lanes into the...

Made It to Minnesota!

Made It to Minnesota!
We had a nice time at the wedding on Saturday night.  It’s just weird that we are old enough that our friends kids are getting married.  Tony was the best man at the parents of the grooms wedding – so they have a lot of history.  I’ve known them for now 14 years, but I always like hearing the stories of when Tony was younger. ...

It Was A Tostada Day!

It Was A Tostada Day!
And there is nothing wrong with that!  As we got down to the tail end of the week, and after spending less than $30 for groceries this week, it was slim pickings.  I had some ground beef leftover, so I decided to cook that up and noticed I had 4 tostadas left in a bag in the pantry.  So beef tostadas were on the lunch...

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!
It was another glorious morning for a walk before work – even a bit chillier at 56 degrees, but Kym, you’ll be happy to know that I never even entertained the idea of wearing a jacket. Breakfast was kind of a tasting plate – we are getting slim pickings as we end this week before leaving for Mayo.  I thought I grabbed some Cabot sharp...

Super Simple Sauce. . .and a note from Tony!

Super Simple Sauce. . .and a note from Tony!
Yesterday when I set out on my walk, I thought “I think I might need a jacket!”  But once I got going, it was fine – fifteen minutes into the walk and it was up to 66 degrees – it was perfect! I ate a handful of granola before my walk, then once at work put my breakfast together – I heated up one of...

Blueberry Lemon Scones

Blueberry Lemon Scones
I think the first time I had a scone was at Starbuck’s many many years ago.  It might have been one of the first Starbuck’s in Chicago – it was around 1990 and I was working at a law firm near the Board of Trade building.  I wasn’t as big as a coffee drinker as I am today, but I was all about their pastries...

Sweet Potato Broccoli Coconut Milk Soup

Sweet Potato Broccoli Coconut Milk Soup
I should have known my work day was going to be busy when my boss called me on a Sunday to see if I could come in early on Monday.  No problem!  My only problem was that I really didn’t think it through and had a breakfast that took a little bit of time to put together.  Luckily I grabbed a handful of granola and...

Sriracha BBQ Sauce

Sriracha BBQ Sauce
I hope everyone had a great long weekend!  Mine was the perfect blend of family, food and fun.   Friday I got my walking shoes on and walked down by the river.  Of course being the 4th of July weekend, the river was pretty busy.  Our house is across the street from the channel, so probably the equivalent of three blogs from the river, so we...
