Local radio personality Steve Dahl declared that he had the best tacos at a Mexican restaurant in Mt. Prospect called Los Compadres. Tony and I wanted to go to the Japanese grocery store, and figured we would combine the trip on Saturday.
I decided to get the combo plate – a great deal at $6.99. I got carne asada and ground beef on my tostada.
Yep, this was the best Mexican food we’ve had – the meat was so flavorful and a splash of fresh lime juice over the top did the trick – as well as their red salsa – holy cow was it good – I think you may see I added a touch to my tostada!
And then we went to the Japanese grocery store – its always fun to look around at all the interesting things they have – and Maggie I thought of you when I saw a big pile of kobacha!
The weather was perfect on Saturday. We decided to grill out – I made rosemary potatoes and Tony picked up a couple of ribeye steaks.
We have this giant tree in our backyard that blooms flowers that are so pretty, but they only last a couple days and they all seem to drop off at the same time. I wish they would stay longer.
And for Father’s Day I made another version of Brandi’s breakfast bread pudding, this time adding diced apple, dried cranberries and dried cherries – delicious!
I wish the tone of this post could be a bit more upbeat, but I am just not feeling it. Long time readers will be shocked to read this, but Hannah and Tony are like oil and water, the two just don’t mix no matter how hard I try. It’s hard when the two people you love the most don’t get along – so yesterday was a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me – I am not going to go into details, but let’s just say yesterday was a long day and leave it at that.
Hugs!
OoO I make those fish for breakfast sometimes! It’s a very traditional Japanese breakfast.
So much good food in this post! $6.99 for the Mexican combo plate is such a great deal. Also, the breakfast bread pudding sounds wonderful.
hi biz! i have to say, i have been reading your blog for such a long time and i never would have known that tony and hannah don’t always get along. i think that’s a testament to how hard you must work to make sure each person in your family is happy. but, don’t forget about yourself and YOUR happiness! it’s so hard to realize that you can’t make everyone get along…i’m sorry that you are in such a difficult position BUT i do think that things change and people change and grow…and even if they DON’T, just know that you love both people very much and that is the #1 most important thing.
I can only imagine how tough that would be š Hugs, Biz. I know I’m late reading, but better late than never, right? And I thought about you last night as I was dicing up 2 HUGE onions for an enchilada casserole. I thought, “I think Biz would really like this, except for all these onions….!” š
Your bread pudding is a must-make for me! I love the spin you put on this version. And that Mexican food looks AWESOME.
I am a longtime reader (first comment, though), and although I’m surprised, I’m not shocked. Blended families are complicated and it’s ridiculously hard sometimes. when two of the people I love so desperately don’t fit together, I find it exhausting/painful/awful. Just so hard. I hope things get better for you all.
Thanks for your first comment and being a longtime reader – and thanks for your words š
Big hugs to you! Sorry it was a crappy day.
Sorry about your rough day. If it’s any consolation, I had a topsy-turvey relationship with my daughter for about 4-5 years. She was adopted an all I every heard was your not my real mother. I would say I may not be, but I am the only mother you have known and I was the one who has taken care of you all these years. We were like oil and water also. As she has matured, we are slowly becoming friends. I know in my heart that it will work out because they both love you so much. Just remember that God doesn’t put on us more than we can handle. Thinking of you…
Well, today is a new day, right? Think positively and hopefully things will turn around!! Hugs!
Try to just hang in there with them…….I have had a similar experience, and it did work out. I learned to try NOT to get in the middle. It was very hard, but it paid off; very hard to watch though. ;(
Mexican food looks delish, now I wan some! Have a good week Biz, hugs to you, Tony and Hannah!
Hi Biz, so sorry you had a rough day yesterday! Sending big hugs to all of you!!!!! Take care!
