Local radio personality Steve Dahl declared that he had the best tacos at a Mexican restaurant in Mt. Prospect called Los Compadres. Tony and I wanted to go to the Japanese grocery store, and figured we would combine the trip on Saturday.
I decided to get the combo plate – a great deal at $6.99. I got carne asada and ground beef on my tostada.
Yep, this was the best Mexican food we’ve had – the meat was so flavorful and a splash of fresh lime juice over the top did the trick – as well as their red salsa – holy cow was it good – I think you may see I added a touch to my tostada!
And then we went to the Japanese grocery store – its always fun to look around at all the interesting things they have – and Maggie I thought of you when I saw a big pile of kobacha!
The weather was perfect on Saturday. We decided to grill out – I made rosemary potatoes and Tony picked up a couple of ribeye steaks.
We have this giant tree in our backyard that blooms flowers that are so pretty, but they only last a couple days and they all seem to drop off at the same time. I wish they would stay longer.
And for Father’s Day I made another version of Brandi’s breakfast bread pudding, this time adding diced apple, dried cranberries and dried cherries – delicious!
I wish the tone of this post could be a bit more upbeat, but I am just not feeling it. Long time readers will be shocked to read this, but Hannah and Tony are like oil and water, the two just don’t mix no matter how hard I try. It’s hard when the two people you love the most don’t get along – so yesterday was a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me – I am not going to go into details, but let’s just say yesterday was a long day and leave it at that.
Hugs!
My Aunt lives in Mt. Prospect and my family is from Glenview. Do you know where that is? Small world eh?
P.S. Sorry about your rough day yesterday.
I’m drooling over that plate of Mexican food – looks soooo good! I always enjoy the best Mexican when I visit my parents in Texas. I think I have that same tree in my backyard – it’s just beautiful right now!
Sorry you had a tough day, hope today was better! 🙂
Hey Biz… thanks for adding the recipe to the site… Hope it becomes a habit. Bread puddings are one of my “left over” dishes. Add what I only have half a bag to and viola…
As to the father /daughter thing… Amazing what time will do for that. Hard to live through it, but try to imagine a few years from now… like wine, better with age.
But then again, I recall a few of my “special” Father’s Days. You would think the little shits would make an effort.
One of those choices are an absolute truth for your day
Families are so much fun sometimes, aren’t they? Best just stay out of it all together. It’s no fun being pulled in either direction.
Sorry to hear about Tony and Hannah. We just can’t get along with everyone and that’s OK! I’ve been craving some Mexican like crazy lately. Looks delicious!
I had no idea they didn’t mix well….your posts always seem so upbeat about the two of them…hugs to you! I have a friend who has the same issue, her daughter from a previous marriage does not get along with her husband, although it is pretty much the only dad she has ever known. It has gotten better as she has gotten older, but I know it still isn’t what she hopes it could be. Hang in there!
Now I want Mexican food. Our favorite dive place is closed today though. Boo. I’m shocked to read about Tony and Hannah. Maybe some family therapy might help.
oh delish food!
oh it sucks to be in the middle, i know how you feel!
Big hugs to you – it’s hard to be in the middle like that.
I’m sorry to hear about Hannah and Tony. That must be difficult for you.
The mexican food looks amazing!! Yum!!
Sorry about Tony and Hannah and for your rough day yesterday. Here’s to a better day today!
That is an amazing plate for the price. I wanted to lick my screen. 🙂
Sorry about Tony and Hannah – sad, especially on Father’s Day. I guess it is part of being a teenager. If it makes you feel any better one of ours actually texted Pooldad to wish him a happy day. I was livid. They won’t repeat that mistake. sigh.
I’m sorry you had a rough day yesterday. I hope everything is better today. Hugs!!!
Sorry to hear yesterday was a tough day…I hope today is much much better. Ow- good Mexican. Cannot be beat. Every time I see someone going out for Mexican, I start to crave it!!!
I once lived in Mexico and that plate reminds me of a typical lunch at my favorite restaurant there. Oh how I miss that place! I hope today is a better day 🙂
One time a friend said to me, “Do you realize how lucky you are? Because usually there is no such thing as a blended family, it’s more like families in a blender!” It’s hard when that’s true. If you need to get it off your chest, email me, okay?
Hugs to you – I think you could use one, even if it is long distance and virtual!
what a great deal for that mexican! everything looks awesome – love tostados!
The most important thing to remember is to NOT get in the middle. That is something they need to work out. Because they both love YOU, it will happen. It just takes time (ie years and years!) Yes I speak from experience.
Shake it off and don’t let their battles becomes yours. They are both awesome people!
I’m sorry they don’t get along…I had no idea! That must be so hard for you–hugs Biz!
Oh I know how those relationships go! Hope your week improves.
Mmm, that Mexican food looks sooo good! Now I’ve got to find some good Mexican food around here. It’s always amazingly tasty and cheap!
