So Tony had a taste for pan pizza and I decided to do it in the cast iron skillet. While it turned out good, I still didn’t quite achieve the crunchiness he was looking for – maybe the edges are swiped with melted butter?? Anyone have any ideas?
And I had a hard time getting the sides to stay up because of the olive oil in the pan. But here is the finished product!
I had so many ideas going on in my head about my pizza this afternoon. I knew I had brie that I bought the other day, and thought about that – but Hannah loves brie so we’ll save that for a treat for us this weekend with some good crackers. What changed my mind was when I went to the store to buy all-purpose flour, this cheese stopped me in my tracks!
And my 2 ounces shredded was a perfect amount!
So I was looking in my fridge to see what would go with white cheddar cheese – HAM! So I diced up 1 ounce of ham. Then I sliced up a handful of SPINACH. Then I saw the APPLE! So I thinly sliced the apple:
So I didn’t think tomato sauce would work with these ingredients, and I saw these on sale. I normally would never buy them not on sale – I think they are normally $4.99 each! These were two for $5.
Oops! Forgot to put in the calories! My pizza came in at 457 calories, 10 grams of fat and 60 carbs! Sweet!

The verdict? Loved this combo! The saltiness of the ham balanced nicely with the sweet apple and the salty cheddar. The only thing I probably would have done differently is that since I rolled my dough out really thin, I precooked my dough without toppings and the bottom kind of got really done before the top completely melted. So next time I’ll probably just throw it all together and just cook it on my bottom rack.
Hope everyone is having a good Friday night. Off to watch CheckPlease (local Chicago restaurant show) and then we have a new Man v. Food that we DVR’d.
Night!
that pizza sounds fabulous–great combo 🙂
Wow, that pizza looks amazing!
For the crunchiness, I turn the oven way up. Another trick is putting a shallow pan of water on the bottom of the oven. Get it steaming hot before putting in the pizza. But I think your pizza looks fantastic and delicious 🙂
You are a pizza making genius!! Looks delish 🙂
Biz, you make some good looking pizzas!!
The spice and herb blend look great! I’ve seen those in stores, but never thought for them to be in pizza! Great idea!
How much do I wish I had your pizza for dinner instead of the crap I picked up on the way home? Love the apple/ham/cheese combo 😀 Who says pineapple is the only fruit for pizza?
I seriously want to stop by your house every Friday night!! Ha I’ll take any night of the week actually 😀
This seriously looks so good. It’s 10:30 pm and I feel like I am starving after seeing this ;).

Is it me or do we only watch shows that involve food?
