We had a really big storm on Friday, and we found out that my SIL was still without power yesterday! So since we have a big deep freeze, she brought over stuff that could still be kept frozen, but a bunch of meat thawed and needed to be cooked up.
She came over and then later in the afternoon my nephew and his son came over too. Tony hadn’t even decided what he wanted for Papa Day, but we cooked up some of Jody’s meat – problem solved!
And Tony’s son Joe spent the day with us, which was so nice. He’s got big plans coming up in his life . . .he and his girlfriend are moving to Austin, Texas next month! Joe is 20 and his girlfriend Liz is 19. What age were you when you moved out of your parents house?
I decided to make a couple loaves of 5-Minute Artisan bread. Look at how much it rose in 2 hours!
I had a bag of red potatoes and decided to make a potato salad on the side. Only one problem – not a huge fan of mayo! I searched tastespotting, and found this recipe. I subbed balsamic vinegar for her red wine vinegar, and in the end I did add 1/4 cup of mayo because it was a bit dry otherwise. Everyone loved it though!
I also made Kevin’s asparagus mimosa, which I thought was delicious! I found out that my SIL doesn’t like asparagus 🙁
I have to get my ass in gear this week. I’ve promised Susan that I am going to do 30-day shred at least three times this week.
I didn’t track my calories at all this weekend, which invariably means more licks, tastes, etc. are not recorded. I told myself I wasn’t going to weigh in until July 1, and I am still going to keep that date, but I feel fat. I need to get my water in and record every bite I eat.
I still haven’t done a full grocery shop! The weekend went by way to quick. Off to clean out the refrigerator and see what my options are – have a great Monday!
I talked to Hannah! It was the first time we talked on the phone since she’s been gone and it was wonderful to hear her voice. We have been communicating by email, but the phone call made me miss her even more. She’s having a good time, although she says that it feels like she’s been gone three months!
But I am not going to lie, Tony and I have been enjoying our empty nest!
Hmm…I guess I sort of moved out when I was 23 (when I finished university the 1st time around), but only because I went to Australia for 6 months. Then I came back, left again when I turned 25 for school on the island, and ended up staying there for 5 years. But…now I’m back. For school again! If it didn’t cost so much to live in my area, I wouldn’t have moved back home though.
Sooo much deliciousness in one post. Love the bread!! Glad Hannah is having a blast and you’re getting some QT with Tony!
I always get so hungry after seeing all the awesome food pictures you post. Those recipes look great!
Looks like a meal fit for a king!
I was shy of 19 by one month when I moved out… it was liberating to move out at that point! And bought my own condo at 21 🙂
It’s gotta be tough not having Hannah around- nice that you got to touch base, though!
That bread looks SO good!
Glad you got a chance to connect with Hannah. 🙂
Not counting college, I officially moved out when I was 23. I moved back in for 2-3 months before I got married when I was 24, but then moved to Atlanta after the wedding.
I was 28 when I moved out and only moved cuz I got married! LOL! They were never getting rid of me 😉
I was 17 when I got my first apartment & 18 when I went to Ireland for 4 months. 🙂
Good lookin’ eats as usual! I need to get my ass in gear too – even though I’ve been working out, I still feel fat & gross the last few days haha 🙂 I am trying to get to the gym tonight 🙂
Glad you got to talk to Hannah – I’m going to warn you – she might be bitten with the traveling bug & be spending more time overseas now 🙂
Love the tater salad Biz!!
I still haven’t grilled out once so far!
Glad you talked to Hannah!
Wow, the bread came out great. Well, the whole meal did!
I moved out of my parents house when I was 17. It’s been 13 years. I’ve been out almost half my life…wow!
When does hannah get back from her trip???? Please tell Tony “Happy Belated Father’s Day!”
Good luck with 30 day Shred! I love that dvd =)
Not until June 30!
holy moly that totally rose fast!!!
i always appreciate a good potato salad! perfect to keep in the fridge when u wanna whip something out for a warm summer night but dont wanna spend hours cooking!
xoxo
Looks like a perfect meal – especially with that awesome lookin bread.
Glad you got to talk to Hannah and that she’s having a good time. 🙂 And yes, the empty nest can be a nice change – good that you and Tony are enjoying it!
I know those “I feel fat” feelings…you don’t even have to step on the scale to know what it will say. But doing the Shred and getting back to your healthy eating will make that feeling disappear, and hopefully soon.
Oh, and I was 20 when I moved out. Are you and Tony going to come to Austin and visit Joe soon? (hope, hope!)
Great meal! A good way to use up the thawed meat for sure. Your bread and the asparagus turned out beautifully! I am so glad you got to talk to your daughter! I bet its tough to have her far away
I can imagine it’s nice to be empty nesters…I know my parents enjoyed that time! I moved out at 17 (started college at 17) and I moved back for summers, but that was it. I guess I’ve been away for awhile…hard to believe sometimes 🙂
Biz, that Artisan bread…OMG, stunning! You impress me so much!!
Your food looks better with every post! Or am I hungrier? New camera?
Glad you got to talk to Hannah. When my daughter was between 8th and 9th grade, she went on a trip with 30 other kids to Australia. Before cell phones – or at least before we/she had them. We were the last family to finally hear from her while she was there! All 3 of my kids have been like that, but I’ve come to know that it means they are so busy and content that they literally had a hard time finding time to call! You asked about her last week in a comment…she’s 26 and in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic. We went and saw her last November. She’s great – has one more year of service.
And glad to hear you and Tony are liking the empty nest! It was weird when our last one went to college for a few weeks, but we got happily used to it REAL FAST!
Is it bad that when I saw “asparagus mimosa” I thought, “Biz juiced asparagus for cocktails?”
great food as usual biz! have you thought of using skype to keep in touch with hannah? for my update this week……been running and riding more and am gonna “train” for a 5 K race which is on july 4th.
xoxox
We don’t think her host family has a web cam . . .
The bread looks amazing, yum! I’m not a big asparagus fan either but dressed up like this it look good!
That bread looks AMAZING! And then you dinner…YUM!!
Yay for talking to Hannah! Hopefully she’s having a great time!
I officially moved out when I graduated college, but lived in the dorms, etc. during college and was only home during the summers!
I didn’t track this weekend either. Bah. I’m waiting till June 30th to weigh in. I’ll email you when I do!
That artisan bread looks so beautiful! 5 minutes you say?
Yay for talking to Hannah! I went on a long trip when I was in high school and called my mom a ton. It was hard being so far away!
Yay for talking to Hannah!! Keep up the great work, Biz-you are doing amazing! I was a late bloomer when I moved out of my house….I was 25 and getting married!
The potato salad and the ribs look awesome!
I have never had a dough rise that much! That is incredible!
