This black bean and sausage stew is so delicious and it’s crazy how flavorful it is with only 20 minutes in an instant pot.
I was watching Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. He was in Brazil and he was eating a dish called feijoada. It’s a classic dish from Brazil and typically uses, let’s say, less used ingredients like pigs ears and feet.
I went the sausage route. And I also used canned black beans because they were recently on sale at my store for .25 cents.
Can I make black bean and sausage stew on my stove top?
If you don’t have an Instant Pot, not to worry. You could make it just as easily in a stock pot on your stove, and maybe simmer 30 minutes total.
Black Bean and Sausage Stew
This recipe was created after watching a t.v. show about Brazil. Feijoada is a classic black bean dish and while this is probably no where near authentic, it's delicious!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces turkey sausage
- 2 slices center cut bacon , chopped
- 2 tbsp garlic
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1.5 cups chicken broth
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 3 cups black beans, canned and drained
Instructions
- Set instant pot on saute. Add the bacon and garlic, and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the bacon starts to brown. Add in tomato paste and cook 2 minutes.
- Add in remaining ingredients. Set on high pressure for 20 minutes.
- It took about 35 minutes from beginning to end for the instant pot to release the pressure after cooking.
Notes
I used Jennie-O turkey garlic sausage.  This is 1 WW point per 1/2 cup. Click here for the WW tracker.

It’s funny because if I am not Bizzy in my Kitchen then I am either watching t.v. shows about it or reading cookbooks. So many recipes, so little time!
Until next time, be well!
Oh yum! I can’t wait to make this! I’ve been looking for easy things to cook for my blue plan journey that are also flavorful (and filling). Thanks for sharing this!
Super easy to make and so good! I added an onion to since my family loves onions. Excited to eat this throughout the week!
Yeah – I am so glad you liked it! And everyone adds onions to my recipes 😀
This looks so great! Can’t wait to make it!
Thanks Morgan!
