I now sleep the way I love. Window open, breeze blowing over my face and under all the covers. The only tiny problem with that is that our black curtains are open so I can feel the breeze, and well, the sunrise is now around 5:45 in the morning and the light wakes me up. But I actually don’t mind. I woke up around 6:15 and laid around looking outside and easing into the day for about 20 minutes. It was glorious. I got my walking shoes on and I was out of the house by 6:50 – nice! It was super foggy – love that there was both a bird flying away and a boat on the river this morning for the top pic! As I walked over the bridge of the channel, I got my first sight of fish swimming – they are like giant carp – I am not sure anyone eats the fish in the river though.
I still had plenty of time to stop by Hannah’s work to pick up my almond milk cappuccino with one splenda and a touch of cinnamon. My breakfast may look like a bit of dog food topped with chopped baby spinach and hot sauce, but what I have there is two fried eggs over 1/2 a cup of Bush’s baked beans topped with a bit of Cabot cheese THEN with chopped baby spinach and hot sauce. After that picture was taken I just chopped the eggs up so I had a bite of everything. It may look like a hot mess, but it’s a delicious hot mess.
My co-worker ended up walking with me at lunch which was nice! We both kept our sandals on – it wasn’t until I saw this picture when I downloaded it that I wished I had a longer second toe – ha!
It was 72 degrees and glorious! It wasn’t until later last night that I realized I got sunburned after our 50 minute walk. Damn!! And you are welcome in advance for the boob shot.
I ended up making another day old Jimmy John bread panini with cottage cheese on the side for lunch.
Poultry was on sale at my store last weekend. I got a turkey breast for $1.49 a pound and chicken thighs were only $1.29 a pound. We had the grilled turkey with mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner – the chicken thighs were for Jacob’s lunches later in the week. Grill once – cook twice is my motto!
And what better way to grill than with a beer in hand – my first Summer Shandy of the season!
I started out with just the turkey breast on the grill. I marinated the turkey in 1/2 a cup of Newman’s Own light balsamic dressing, then a quick salt and pepper before hitting the grill. After about 20 minutes I added the chicken thighs.
The turkey was so juicy and tender! Sadly, Hannah’s dinner mostly consisted of mashed potatoes and green beans – although she did have two bites of the turkey, so at least she tried.
Wednesday night is my night off of strength training so it was nice to come home and sit outside while grilling and catching up with Hannah and Jacob. I still managed to do pretty good on my steps thanks to my morning walk though!
So I need to buy a new gas grill and I am torn. I love my Weber which is what I’ve been using so far, but it’s 20 years old and while it does the job, I am thinking a: buy a new Weber because they are only $99 and still keep an eye out for a good gas grill. Or b: buy a gas grill/charcoal combo. The Green Egg is WAY out of my price range, but was just wondering what you grill with? Do you grill?! Why DON’T you grill if you don’t?!
Off to get my morning walk in – make it a great day!
I’m a griller! We have a Char-Broil gas grill that I hate with every ounce of my being. Even on the lowest settings it burns the outside of my meats before the inside is done. SO ANNOYING. We bought a Traeger a couple years ago and use it almost all the time now. Technically it is a smoker, but it can get up to about 400-450. It won’t give quick cooking meats the lovely grill marks, but everything comes out flavorful and juicy!
You sun-burn just like me! ha ha!!!
Oh and I ADOREEEEEE grilling!!!! 🙂 Mmmmmmm I want some grilled chicken, right now!
yep, pretty much have to have sunscreen on 24×7! 😀
I don’t grill – I”m stubborn and refuse to:)
Love Summer Shandy!!!
Summer Shandy for the win!!!
I have a teeny-tine Weber in my storage unit that we use for camping, but we can’t have a grill at the apartment complex unless it’s electric. Um, hello? Defeats the point of GRILLING. 😉 The minute I buy a house, I am buying myself a new charcoal grill. I’ve always had a Weber, and it has never failed me, but I’d be open to a charcoal/gas mix, too.
We grill all the time – the kids like simple food (grilled meat, steamed veggies), so I think it gets used more than our stove. It’s a little Weber Q gas grill. It’s very easy to keep clean and is just the right size; only disadvantage is there’s no way to make indirect heat.
I love that first picture!
Owie on the sunburn. I have been putting mine on already (SPF 50). My skin feels so weird to have exposed outside still after that winter LOL!
I tried a shandy for the first time at Christmas and got the Leinenkugel cranberry shandy. It was quite good. Usually I am not big on fruity beers, but the shandy is refreshing.
I don’t grill but i do have some experience with sunburn. That looks painful.
Hey Biz! We grill on a Char-Broil brand gas grill. It’s stainless, has 6 burners, one of them for Searing and an extra burner on the side for cooking anything in a pot. We got this from Wal-Mart for around $300.00 and love it. We grill often and the winter month don’t stop us. 🙂 There is just nothing like food from a grill…yum!
After buying cheap ($200-$300) gas grills at Home Depot every other year, we finally splurged this year on a Weber Genesis 330 in the Copper color. It is AMAZING and very sturdy with a great warranty.
We live in a Condo and have a balcony. We had a huge grill, but downsized to a Char broiler Patio size gas grill. We just got a letter from the association that they might be outlawing grills because last year someones condo burned down because of the propane. We can move it into the garage but we’re on the 2nd floor so that would suck.
We have an infrared grill. HATE IT. With our old gas grill, at least the flames would rise up and lick the food. Not on this thing. Don’t get much “grilled” flavor, either.
Don’t think I could switch to charcoal, though. I like the instant flame and readiness too much.
You made me realize that it’s been so long since I’ve had cottage cheese! Mmmm…. That is all. 😉
I just bought a Broil King gas grill from Lowes. It’s being delivered this Saturday and I can’t wait. It’s replacing a little Kenmore gas grill that was at least 30 years old.
Let me know how you like it Mary!
We made the switch from gas to charcoal a few years ago. My husband really wanted a green egg but, as you said, they are SUPER pricey! He found the generic version and bought it and loves it! I will have to see what brand it is and where he got it.
Awesome – thanks Lisa!!
I don’t grill 🙁 We live in an apartment so it’s against city code to even have a small grill on the patio!
We have a smaller Weber gas grill and really like it – I think it’s the Weber Q? Bought it a few years ago.
Nice going with all those walks – I can’t wait to start up my summertime walks with Julia soon!
My family LOVES grilled food and your fresh Baja grilled salsa. We have an old Webber Genesis gas grill which has been good to us. The grill grates have so may holes it is getting harder to place things so they don’t fall into the grill and two of the “flavorizer” bars have rusted almost in half. The price to replace the parts would be about $130 so being the frugal shopper I am I too am looking to replace my grill 🙁 Seeing your grilled turkey I must now go shopping tonight to see if I can locate a breast. Ouch on the sunburn. Always, always, always put sunscreen on exposed areas. Trust me… I did not and now that area of my chest looks ten years older than the rest of me 🙁
We are about to sell our 15 year old Weber Genesis Silver C on Craigslist and replace it with a new, smaller Weber Spirit E-320. I like the “gourmet bbq system” accessories: a wok, a griddle, and a pizza stone. Our charcoal grill is a PK Grill, but we seriously thought about the Weber Performer Deluxe 22 in. charcoal grill.
We had a gas grill for years but replaced it with a Weber on coal 2 years ago. Now we don’t grill as much as you and I think gas is easier for you because it takes a while before the coals are hot enough.
A combination would be great, that way you can grill on coal at the weekends. I do think meat tastes better on coal than on gas.
You are rocking your morning and lunch walks, and as a walker you know I love that.
I love your sassy sandals! What kind are they? I am a Weber girl–they are so reliable.
I wish I could grill! I just moved to NYC and have no place to use a grill 🙁 I have a grill pan, but I can’t seem to figure it out without smoking up the place. sigh… what’s a girl to do?
