My friend Helen is running a DietBet this month. The premise is that you put in $25 dollars to the “pot” try to lose 4% of your weight in a month and if you succeed, you split the pot with everyone who made their goal.
Remember how I told you I lost weight on vacation? Um, well, it caught up with me a week later. On May 31, the day before this DietBet started, I weighed in at a whopping:
Part of the verification process of the first WI was to put a piece of paper in front of your scale – what I didn’t know is that you had to use a specific word, which was “rose” but Helen had posted a comment on our DietBet board reminding people to weigh in before June 1 and said “Ger R Done!” and they were able to verify my WI with that.
So longtime readers know I love my wine and beer. Especially in the summer time. Nothing better than coming home from work, pouring a glass of wine and hanging out with Tony in our backyard. That had to go if I were to meet my goals.
Things I did right this week:
- no wine during the week, or any alcohol
- drank a minimum of 2L of water a day (my Detox Water)
- worked out a minimum of 60 minutes a day between lunch and my Insanity workouts
- my only snacking at night was on almonds, and they were portion controlled
But the hard part is week 2. Keeping the momentum going. I realized that I was off on my Insanity tapes, not realizing that the Fit Test was actually “Day 1” so I have Day 6 today and then my rest day tomorrow. I contemplated doing Day 6 last night but I didn’t want to have two rest days in a row.
So this morning, this is what I weigh:
I lost 3.8 this week. Woop! I know that’s probably some water weight, but I’ll take it. My goal for this week is –2.1 so I can be in the 160s again.
Do you use Instagram? I am loving it – I’d love to follow you, let me know what your user name is in the comments if you want me to follow. I am biz319 on Instagram.
On my way to work yesterday, it was really backed up. I didn’t realize until we had to turn around that there was a really bad accident.
They had an ambulance in each lane ahead so the road was closed. But before I knew it was an accident I was getting pissed because I left my house 10 minutes early even and I was running late.
Until I saw the accident and realized I needed to shut the hell up. I was in my comfortable car, listening to XM radio and drinking my coffee. I just called my office said I’d be in when I could and ended up being only 15 minutes late.
I ended up bringing a Green Monster to work for breakfast. 8 ounces vanilla soy milk, 1 frozen banana, 2 cups baby spinach, 1 teaspoon agave nectar, 1 tablespoon flax seeds and 3 scoops of chocolate soy protein powder that I found in the back of my pantry – who even knows how long its been there!
I went to the gym at lunch to do intervals on the treadmill. I am trying to get my overall pace up on my 5ks. When I swiped my card at the front desk, this is what I saw:
Let’s just say that I am happy I don’t work out between the time of 5:00 to 8:00!
I have an interval app on my phone – it was 1:15 minutes low, to 1:00 minute high and it was 10 rounds. My goal was to make my high run faster each round. Guess what? My last 1:00 round was at a 7:47 mile pace!
Maybe I’ll get as fast as I was in high school!
My legs felt great. I ended up doing a total of 40 minutes on the treadmill including my cool down.
Our temperatures have felt more like early fall than summer lately. Our forecast yesterday was possible showers and a high around 63. I nixed the grilling and know that everyone loves my Buffalo Chicken Chili, so I made a big pot of that, brought in some shredded cheddar, tortilla chips, and even chopped onions, and called it a day. I had a whole 5 quart crock pot filled and I only came home with 2 cups. #winning!
You know I always want party pizza Friday, so when Tony suggested I pick up a deep dish on the way home I jumped on that grenade. We have a restaurant that I pass on my way home called Kelsey Road House. They have a super huge menu, outdoor seating. It’s a nice place to go with a group because there really is something for everyone.
A while back Tony and I noticed that they were now selling Gino’s East pizza. I haven’t had Gino’s East pizza in probably 15 years when I worked in Chicago. Gino’s claims to be the first authentic Chicago deep dish pizza.
I ended up ordering their Meat Legend: sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon and bacon. I called before I left work and picked it up on my way home.
They don’t slice it, otherwise all the sauce and cheese would ooze all over. After that picture above, my camera battery died. My plate with my iPhone:
With a beer – new to me Porch Rocker from Sam Adams – it reminds me a bit of Blue Moon because it has a slight citrus note.
And I snacked on some almonds later in the night and had two very small glasses of wine, which I have included in my calorie intake. Um, I may never “count” the liquid calories I drink!
Stats for Friday:
- 40 minute total treadmill, 7:47 fastest minute
- 1985 calories, 76 fat, 167 carbs, 23 fiber, 96 protein
- 34% of calories from carbs, 34% from fat, 32% from protein
I have Day 6 of Insanity today, then plan on at least a 30 minute walk around my neighborhood – the sun is shining! And I am off to meal plan. My damn maid didn’t show up to clean out my refrigerator again. I am going to have to have a talk with her.
Have a great weekend! See you Monday!
I’m behind! A few things to say about this post:
1) Way to go on the WL and meeting all of your goals this week!
2) Didn’t know that there was an app for intervals. Thanks for sharing that.
3) We had Gino’s when we were in Chicago last fall. We were disappointed. I guess it’s just not my style. I am a Wisconsin cheese girl, so I guess that’s where it was lacking. But the sauce was flavorful!
4) Haven’t seen Porch Rocker yet. Good to know when I see it out!
Way to go on taking back control! I know my wine consumption hurts me on the scale…for sure. I just can’t let go yet!
You are doing great. My maid din’t show up either!
You are rocking it these days Biz, what a great weight loss.
I am so like you when it comes to wine. I like to do the same as you do. i’m starting the 4 day of no alcohol (Monday through Thursday) today. I had one glass left in the bottle last night that I drank so there wouldn’t be an opened bottle of wine in the fridge today.
Keep it going girl, you’re doing great.
Ginos – yummers! We used to go there to the one in St. Charles a lot.
HIGH FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoop whoop whoop! You are working SO hard. Its probably odd to say this, but I”m so proud of you! I know you’re going to win this challenge. I wish I liked deep dish, I’ve never been able to get into it!
WTG on the weight loss!
Great job! Keep up the great work.
I’ve been so busy over the last week that I haven’t been able to read your blog. I have to say, I enjoyed lingering over here today to catch up…
I had the same thing happen to me when I got back from vacation. Here, I thought I did so well, then BAM!—not so much. Sigh. Oh well, you’re off to a great start. Go get ’em, Biz!
Yay, congrats! And glad you are still able to enjoy a beer on the weekend! I refuse to give up wine on the weekends. Not worth it, to me!
Girl I just gained 5 pounds looking at that delicious pizza. Seriously I can’t even touch pizza if I want to lose weight. My gym offers free pizza once a month as well as bagels. Why not fruit? or veggies and hummus? I just walk on by silently cursing. A 7:47 pace is awesome. I see that from time to time when I do speed training, but what I wouldn’t give to hold that pace for a full marathon…that would be a Boston qualifier for sure, but I’m not sure these pudgy legs have that ability.
Have an awesome weekend Biz!
I love Gino’s East – ate there a few times when my brother lived in Chicago.
I just got on Instagram this week! Follow me at sweetsavoryeats. I think I’m already following you!
Good job kiddo!!! (my mother used to call me kiddo….I must pass it on 🙂 ) That deep dish pizza looks good, yum!
Good job on the loss! And the workouts! Cutting out alcohol really works! I replaced my glass of wine or beer with “interesting” teas (hot or cold), and it’s my new ritual and works.
Have a great weekend!
A bar in a gym, sounds terribly distracting 🙂 Great job on the weight loss, we’ll be here to cheer you on for week 2!
I used to belong to a gym that had a bar on the top level–crazy!
Great job on the loss Biz! It’s so nuts what Insanity can do to your body!!!
And I’ll have a beer for you this weekend. 🙂
Good job on the weight loss and gosh Gino’s East sounds sooooooo good. Your posts always make me so hungry! Eating pizza is the one time I’ll enjoy (a half) beer 😉
Happy Hour at a gym just doesn’t even seem right! I love the summer beers from Samuel Adams.
