At 1:30 p.m. yesterday, we finally got out power restored after almost 80 hours without power. Hallelujah! It was so weird not to have watched t.v. since Sunday night. Of course, our DVR couldn’t record my shows, so I missed my episodes of Master Chef and the new season opener of Hell’s Kitchen, but I’ll survive. š
This is the last day you’ll see frozen meals too, and I couldn’t be happier!
Breakfast was a Jimmy Dean’s Light Breakfast bowl – these are actually not too bad – I did have to spice it up with some hot sauce. I had a 2 point string cheese on the side, so breakfast comes in at 8 points.
I am on a running kick lately, and I am surprising even myself. Yesterday I pushed myself harder than I normally do, and you know what? I could handle it! I ran for 50 minutes without stopping! š
I was hungry when I got back to work, and sadly, this 6 point lean cuisine barely made a dent – it was pretty gross, not much flavor and only like 3 tiny pieces of chicken.
So in the afternoon I had unphotographed:
- apple
- banana
- 1/4 cup of granola
- one small Eat Right granola bar – snacks were 6 points
When Tony called me to tell me the power was back on, he was like “I don’t care what we have for dinner as long as we don’t have to eat out.” I stopped by my store on the way home, I’ve talked about the 50% off meat bin, meat that has to be sold by that day.
I scored and got two sirloin steaks for $4.12, and picked up some shrimp and pre-packaged mashed potatoes. I had to throw out a lot of my condiments, so I needed to stock up – I have a reputation of being a condiment whore!
These two sauses were by the meat counter, normally $3.99 each, but they were on sale for .99 each.
I had 4 ounces of the steak, all the potatoes and shrimp – dinner comes in at 9 points.
I haven’t used my new camera all week, or any photo software – hopefully my pictures will be better next week. š
I spent about 40 minutes cleaning our two refrigerators and deep freeze. The deep freeze was the worst, because we had ice cream in there and it all melted so there was a pool of ice cream water about an inch thick on the bottom. The only thing left in there is some ice packs and the insert to my ice cream maker, which I need to do something with this weekend. š
Hopefully there are some meat sales so we can stock it back up. š
Stats for Thursday:
- 29 points
- 50 minute run š
- average blood sugar 112
My SIL is coming with to my Mom’s house tomorrow night – she’s having a garage sale and she wanted me and my sister to look through the stuff before the sale. And my SIL has never been to Oak Park before so we are going to give her a mini tour before having dinner somewhere in Forest Park. š
Alright, it’s time to get ready for work – have a great Friday. Any plans this weekend?
I know I’m super late to the game but check out hulu
Glad you finally got power back – shame about all of your food though. I hope you at least got to eat through some leftovers before they went! š
So glad you finally have your power back on! At least you’ll be able to have fun stocking the fridge/freeze back up! š
Yay for power. Its Carmageddon where I live, so I’m staying put. No freeway driving for me.
So you were hit by the same storm as another blogger I look at…she power was out for 108 hours. So glad everyone is doing ok!
Hooray for power! You scored some good deals at the store. I love to check the bargain bin for discounted meats! Grilled shrimp sounds wonderful and its something I haven’t had in a while.
can’t wait for all your good cooking to resume. It always inspires me!
Wow! 80 hours with no power Eeeeeek! I am glad you survived, and I know it was rough. The food looks awesome š Glad your back in your regular routine of things…

Yay for power!!! I know how awful it is to go without it unexpectedly. Storms have left us without power for a week at a time. Sure makes you appreciate it when it’s back. š

Congrats on your 50 minutes of running!! That is so great Biz!! š Plans for this weekend include a nice 7 mile run, followed by an 80’s themed Bachelorette Party! Yipppeee!
Oh and I’m SO glad you got your power back. That is crazy that you guys went without for so long.
Happy Friday! š
Glad your power is finally back!
You know, after we had our fridge go out (twice) last year, I never really stocked back up – it just hurt too much to have thrown away TWO fridge/freezer-fuls of food.
Hope you have a great weekend, and go you on the running!!!
I kinda feel bad talking about running Shelley when that’s not on your agenda for the near future. š
Wow! Long time without power! Glad it’s back Biz!!
So sorry you had to clean out your deep freeze!! I always hate when that happens!
50 minutes without stopping is incredible!! My best friend is coming over tonight – I haven’t seen her in such a long time. So happy that the power is back on!!
Yay for power! I would feel the same way as Tony. You start to get sick of eating out when it’s too much!
Have a great weekend!
I am SO happy you guys have power again! you had such a great attitude through it all. happy weekend!
Glad you got your power back. That must be awful to be without power for so long and heartbreaking to lose everything in your deep freeze. Great job pushing yourself for fifty minutes on the run!
Hooray for electricity!
So you’re a condiment whore? I’m a spice whore so I completely understand!
And it’s your birthday today!! Happy Birthday Rachel!
horray for power!!! and so proud of you for that run, that is awesome that you are enjoying it and pushing yourself past what you think you can do š Have a fabulous weekend!!
Yay for power!!!!!!!! And yay for running for 50 minutes – so awesome! It’s addicting, right? š
I’m excited for the weekend – we have a 42 mile bike ride planned for tomorrow and then I finally get to see Colin. It’s been over a week now!
Yep, it is – and I am finding I CAN run faster than I have been and my breathing is under better control. š
Hoooooooray! So happy for you! Great job on the 50 minute run- just awesome š And what a great home cooked meal- especially the shrimpies. I’m sure it tasted like heaven after having to eat out all week. Have a fun weekend! We have our Body Pump launch and otherwise? Time with friends and family
HURRAY for power!! So glad you didn’t have to go through the weekend without.
My weekend will be full of pre-vacation prep which makes me happy just to think about. That, and hopefully getting in a nice long run on Saturday morning.
Okay Biz, you have to come grocery shopping with me one day. You get the best deals!!!
Have a great time this weekend!
Hell’s Kitchen doesn’t start til next Monday so you haven’t missed it!:)
Whew! I thought I missed his typical “It’s Raw!” (insert British accent!) š
Woohoo, you survived! And at least you got a clean refrigerator and a renewed appreciation for non-freezer meals out of the deal. š
