Yep, I had another Green Monster for breakfast, although I do agree with a few of you that commented, I missed the “chew” of a meal. I think these will make an appearance a couple times a week, but I miss my eggs and cheese in the morning!
And I stole Tony’s cup – it’s the only tall one that has a lid so I don’t spill it all over the car on my way to work.
I ended up running a 5k at lunch. Thank goodness that they have mini t.v.’s on the treadmill because my phone was d.e.a.d. as a doornail. With a 5 minute walking warm up, I did the 5k in 39:02.
I had the last of my Bush’s chili and a cooked baked potato leftover from Sunday dinner. It was enough to split, so I made this dish for my boss.
1/2 a large baked potato, 3/4 cup of chili, 1/2 ounce of cheese, baby spinach and roasted jalapenos. That entire generous portion of food comes in at 437 calories, 16 fat, 53 carbs, 8.8 fiber and 23 grams of protein.
I think the roasted jalapenos leftover from when I made salsa over the weekend made the dish.
My boss loved it! Later in the day she asked me how many calories the dish was, and when I told her it was 437 calories I thought she was going to faint – you see, she’s used to her 210 calorie Lean Cuisines – and the thought of eating almost 450 calories for lunch was crazy to her – and she said that she’d probably skip dinner.
When I asked what she had for breakfast, she said a bowl of cereal – so we are talking less than 700 calories for the day! And while she is a size 6, it got me to think that maybe skinny doesn’t necessarily mean that you are healthy. I can’t imagine thinking that at 700 calories, I’d be done for the day eating.
But I do know how many people have struggled with eating disorders – two of my favorite bloggers are trying to keep it together each and every day after restricting food, weighing themselves constantly – but they are growing up, getting healthy, and I am proud of both of them – if you haven’t checked out Sophia or Melissa’s blogs, go say hello and tell them I sent you.
When I left work to go home, it was still 95 degrees. Seriously? I am so sick of this heat. It’s the most we’ve run our central air in years. My plan to grill went out the window – our gas grill is on the side of the house that gets the sun set and its too hot to stand out there in the sun for too long.
Plan B. Indoor grill pan with skinny pork chops, leftover brown rice and a cucumber and mozzarella salad that’s been tossed in a bit of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and crushed red peppers. Dinner comes in at 495 calories, 22 fat, 39 carbs, 3.1 fiber and 33 protein.
It wasn’t until I put in my food for the day that I realized I was around 1200 calories for the day. Later on as Tony and I were watching Robot Chicken (seriously, you have to see this show – its on Adult Swim) that I pulled out the Merck’s port wine cheese and some garlic crostini.
My fatal flaw? Not measuring out the portions. I just brought the jar with a knife and the package of garlic crostini and put it on the table between us. It was mindless eating if you ask me, and I have no idea how much I ate, but I can tell you how much less cheese and crostini were in their respective containers.
My guess? It was a 456 calories, 31 fat, 30 carb, .5 fiber and 17 grams of protein. I may as well have had a fourth meal for the day!
But, I am not going to beat myself up, just recognize it, learn from it and move on.
Stats for August 7:
- 1732 calories, 81 fat, 155 carbs, 20.5 fiber and 96 protein
- 5k run at lunch
- 80.8 miles to reach 100 miles in August
I saw this video on Marion’s blog and thought instantly that my brother would love it, (check out his latest blog post about his hair after chemo!) but I really love it too! Does anyone remember watching this guy when they were little on PBS?
I guess not only the physical activity but also the food which he/she takes would vary the amount of Calories taken by them !
How Many Calories Counter
Ah, thanks biz! I never even got down to that low of calories when i was at my worst and still it was horrible! I hope you are able to teach your friend the great way to eat instead of the path that i went down! She’s lucky to have great friend like you to teach her! Just catching up on your blog after not being able to read for over 3 weeks! I’ve missed it!
I can’t imagine 700 calories being the least bit healthy. But what do I know? The lovelies have tried some of the recipes I put in their cookbooks that came from your site. They LOVED them!
Hi Biz!
I should already know better than to come to your site when I’m hungry. 🙂 That jalapeno thing looks delicious.
I’ve been meaning to ask you if you ever get bored of cooking? I’m sick and tried of my own cookings and I wish I could hire a private chef or something…
I think I will make that chili and potato dish tonight! I can’t imagine surviving on 700 calories, I would be SO grumpy!
You have a very lucky boss!! I’d have loved to have shared that lunch! blessings ~ tanna
I totally used to watch him on PBS as a kid! I loved it! Very cool video. As for the 700 calorie diet, yikes–that’s about how much I ate when I was my smallest. I think for some of us we have to decide–is being tiny more important than being healthy? 150 is my happy weight. It may at the high end of what I should be for my height, but lower means too few calories and I’m not happy any more. Now, I just need to find that happy weight again! I’m 15 lbs higher than it right now. I’m hoping your Aug challenge will help me get a little closer. 🙂
I still can’t believe Bob Ross was only 52. So young. I commented on Marion’s post that my college roommates and I would somehow end up mesmerized watching him paint.
I can’t believe your boss wasn’t going to eat dinner. My sister is like that, but despite her trim body she is often sick with colds, headaches and sore throats. I don’t see her as a model of health. Thin does not equal healthy or happy necessarily.
Nice job on your 5K!!
The title made my eyes boggle. Sad to say though, I used to have that kind of mentality. Now, 437 calories is reserved…for dessert. 😀
Thanks for the kind mention, Biz. I’m very touched! <3
I haven’t had a green monster in a long time.
1700 calroies for the day is still good. My doc gave me a lecture the other day about restricting calories. He said I need to have between 1700 -1800 so my body wouldn’t go into starvation mode. He did say to make wise food choices when consuming those caloires. I guess that means not to eat half of a tiramisu in one sitting:)
Ha! Or a wheel of cheese! 😀
I would not survive on 700 calories a day! And I can’t skip meals…if I am hungry I am not a very pleasant person! 🙂
Your lunch looks yummy…I need to start making extra baked potatoes to eat for lunch. YUM!
That’s really sad. I hate that misconception! Skipping meals to reduce calories isn’t healthy!
I love eating way too much to skip meals! In fact, I always feel like I need three meals, especially dinner, because if I don’t eat I feel like my day is incomplete!
That’s why I like you Errign – we think alike! 😀
I have been restricting myself and would have had the same reaction as your boss just a few months ago. I am finally on a good path, no restricting, no obsessing, no tracking, weighing or measuring and I’m down 23 pounds. Life is so much better right now!!!!!
Wow. I would never be able to only eat 700 calories for an entire day! And skip dinner? noooo
Seriously Biz, I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice…your food always looks so good!!! And I’ve never had a green monster….maybe I should try it finally. lol
I love Robot Chicken!
The calorie thing. Sometimes people are so afraid of food. I could probably be a size 4 if I really put my mind to it, but as my husband said to me “what is the cost of that?” It would have to be my enjoyment of food. I hate it when people keep saying food doesn’t taste as good as thin feels, because I don’t believe that LOL. Guess you have to be foodie to not believe it.
Robot chicken is so inappropriately hilarious isn’t it??? 700 calories? sigh. To me, that’s just not healthy, but hey…I’m bigger than a size 6, so who knows who’s right??? I’d rather be a c few sizes larger and live a good balanced life, but hey, to each their own.
I’d already seen the Bob Ross remix. It’s good.
Hi Charlie!! Did they say when your eye brows and eye lashes will grow back? I love you – you are the best brother! 😀
Wow, 700 calories for the day, that’s crazy!!
Shocking that anyone would think 700 calories is a lot! As for you my dear, 1700 isn’t bad either. I like smoothies for breakfast only when it’s really hot and eating is less appealing!
I agree – I was telling Shelley that the “old” me would have easily eaten 1700 calories BEFORE dinner – and I wonder how I got to be 210 pounds?! 😀
I can’t imagine doing 700 calories a day, that’s just insane!
The mindless snacking at night is probably the area where I need the most work. I’ll be watching a movie or TV and just eat and not realize until I’m done how many calories I put away.
I totally remember Bob ross on PBS…I remember Mr Green Jeans and Captain kangaroo too…geesh….I’m old!
I have fallen victim of way too much mindless eating this month. I finally decided to cancel my monthly WW subscription, because, although my intentions were there to attend meetings, it just wasn’t happening and with all the college bills we now have with 2 kids in college, I couldn’t keep spending the money each month and not go. I have felt tired and sluggish all month, and I suspect it is due to a lot of my crappy eating. Although I can’t say it’s because I am only eating 700 calories a day! Geesh!
The cuke and mozzarella salad sounds wonderful! I bought some of those little fresh mozz balls to make a caprese salad this week at some point. I bet they’d be good in your salad too!
that’s why I ditched my membership too – I know what to do, its just a question of walking the walk, and not talking the talk 😀
I can do 1000 or less calories a day. I’m by no means skinny and I eat what I want that’s just my normal. I think everyone is different and their ‘normal’ is going to differ from yours. Your cucumber and mozzarella salad sounds delish, I’m going to have to try that 🙂 Yep, I remember him!
I think that if you have a really big lunch, then you could easily have a lite dinner. But that wasn’t a particularly big lunch…maybe the lack of calories you boss eats might explain why she’s so often a b*tch?
Oh man! 700 ? I’d be eating my arm off ;). That lunch looks just delicious.
robot chicken! love it! i agree that you have to be sure to get all of your calories in. the body doesn’t like to be starved. i hope it cools down too, bring on the fall!
Happy little clouds!
Yes I know some people who eat very, very little in order to maintain their size 2 or 4 self. While I realize some women are tiny (i.e. 5 feet tall) and can probably maintain with calories that would have me losing, a lot of times it just seems to be iron will. while I’m sure I could do that (because I did in the past), I’d rather be a size 10 and be able to enjoy some of the really great foods out there. But that’s just me.
Amen sister! And I needs my cheese. 😀
