I got half way to work and realized I never made anything for my breakfast. I got to work a bit early so I jumped over to Subway to pick up a breakfast sammie. I was looking at the nutritional information on the glass, and it said that a steak, egg white and cheese on flat bread was only 210 calories – nice!
I loaded it up with veggies and hot sauce and had a cup of raspberries on the side – super filling.
I later went on Subway’s website to double check the nutrition. Um, the THREE INCH flat bread is 210 – my 6 inch? 480 calories! I didn’t even realize they made a 3 inch sandwich. All told it, breakfast comes in at 544 calories, 18 fat, 61 carbs, 13 fiber (nice!) and 33 protein.
I finally got my ass outside! It was about 84 degrees, kind of humid.
The corn across from my office is starting to get really tall! I walked for the first 10 minutes, and then started my run. Holy shiz. Not working out for 2 weeks, it feels as if I am starting from scratch. The first half of my run/walk was pretty pitiful, but the second half was decent. Those of you who follow me on Facebook saw that I was able to smile after my 5k!
But today is going to be in the 90’s, so as soon as I hit publish, I am hitting up the air conditioned gym! Um, turns out I need to go to bed earlier to get up to go to the gym. As soon as I hit publish I’ll have just enough time to do a 30 minute DVD at home. I love sleep!
Lunch was leftover pork tacos, 1/2 cup of yellow rice with corn, and the best strawberries I’ve had all year. Lunch comes in at 561 calories, 26 fat, 54 carbs, 7 fiber and 32 protein. I am loving the 100 calorie packs of guacamole – and the fact that they freeze so well.
My boss is a Starbucks junkie. Every day, rain or shine, she gets her $4.50 triple shot coffee. For those of you playing along, 5 days a week, for 50 weeks (taking into account vacation and time off) that is $1,125 dollars a year . . . for a cup of coffee!
Anywho – she bought these VIA refresher things. $5.95 for five of them. They are described as follows:
Starbucks VIA Refreshers™ Cool Lime combines kaffir lime with hints of mint, cucumber and apple, and pairs that with the natural energy of green, unroasted coffee beans. It’s a breakthrough in instant refreshment that tastes nothing like coffee. Light, juicy and thirst-quenching, with a natural boost of caffeine. Enjoy Starbucks VIA Refreshers™ wherever the moment takes you
It seemed like an awful lot of powder for a 16 ounce bottle of water – I had a 23 ounce bottle of water at my desk. I actually didn’t take a picture of the actual water, because it really looked like dingy dish water. And the taste? Interesting. There was a slight aftertaste. It was citrusy, but not overpowering. It wasn’t until after I drank it that I read the ingredient list:
CANE SUGAR, WHITE GRAPE JUICY POWDER (MALTODEXTRIN, GRAPE JUICE SOLIDS), NATURAL FLAVORS, LIME JUICE POWDER (MALTODEXTRIN, LIME JUICE SOLIDS), GREEN COFFEE BEAN EXTRACT, ERYTHRITOL, CITRIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), REBAUDIOSIDE-A (STEVIA LEAF EXTRACT)
Not sure that being diabetic, my drink of choice should start with cane sugar as the first ingredient. It was 35 calories and 10 grams of carbs. I’ll stick to my water, thank you very much.
My store makes the best marinated flank steaks – on sale this week for $4.99 a pound. We can’t even figure out what the marinade is, because if you were to look at it, you couldn’t even tell its marinated. But it cooks up super quick. In fact, even with turning the gas grill on, dinner was ready from beginning to end in 15 minutes – nice, easy weeknight dinner.
Dinner comes in at 562 calories, 22 fat, 44 carbs, 10 fiber and 23 protein.
So here is my new vow: move for the next 20 days – even if its just walking, biking whatever. I can’t get out of the habit of working out, and they say it takes 21 days for a habit to form.
Stats for Wednesday:
- 1607 calories, 67 fat, 150 carbs, 30 fiber (nice) and 32 protein
- 5k walk – 50 minutes total with walking
- average blood sugar 132
How many of you are Starbuck’s junkies? I actually only indulge at Christmastime for the Pumpkin Latte – although I think that is now out by October! Guess what we got in the mail at my office yesterday? A catalog for Christmas cards! We just got through the 4th of July!
Make it a great day!
what a ridiculous amount to spend on coffee! saying that, i have a diet coke out of the machine at work almost three times a week, over atleast 48 working weeks of the year this adds up to almost £90.00 throughout the year on my diet coke caffine fix! …crazy! x
three inch?! who the hell eats a 3 inch sub? the food industry is always so misleading. i doo love subway flatbreads though! and like that they have an “only egg white” option!
and my starbucks addiction comes to a close in the warm months, thankfully I’m not a huge fan of iced coffee. Winter quarter finals week definitely gets the best of my wallet though.. we have a barnes and nobles (with a starbucks) on our block, and that’s my study place. I’d like to think those $2 or $3 charges don’t add up, but they definitely do!
I cannot imagine spending that much on coffee!! I don’t really like Starbucks, but my husband likes the Via Iced Coffee that they recently came out with. It is way too sweet for me.
That is crazy how much Starbucks adds up!! I met a lady at Starbucks once and she told me she goes TWICE a day! I have to admit that I go about 2-3 times a week. But the cost can be from 2 to 3.50 depending on what I get. I have been making iced coffee at home and this works great!!!
I know what you mean about taking time off from workouts. You realize it when you start back up!
A Christmas Card catalogue? Stop the insanity. I go to Starbucks 1 or 2 times a week, but only have the drip coffee, ’cause its way to expensive (and point laden) to have lattes every day. (though if I could, I would!) Way to go on the workouts!!!! Have a great Thurs.
I guess if she has the money go for it, she’s helping the economy. But ouch, I could never spend that much. I drink a grain drink and a few months ago I found a ‘dark roast’ variety that was $2 more than the regular variety. It took me a good couple of minutes to decide to splurge. So I spent $8 on a jar that lasts me a good 2 months. Broken down that is 13 cents a day. Not too shabby.
That’s awesome!!
I don’t love Starbuck’s coffee. I really only drink coffee at work and it’s just your run of the mill no name brand, but when you’re up all night it does the trick! Starbucks is so overpriced.
Nice job on the workout. I know what you mean about returning to running after a break. The heat doesn’t help either. I ran my long run this morning. It was in the high 80s by 10am right in the middle of the run.
We used to have a corn field behind our house growing up. Once the corn grew tall we had such a blast playing hide and go seek especially at night with flashlights. Then I saw that movie Children of the Corn and it wasn’t so fun anymore!
Way to go on your workout! And those raspberries look fantastic. Do you go and pluck some of the corn when it’s ready? 🙂
I should!
I didn’t actually start drinking coffee until age 40. About 1.5 years ago, I had a cup of decaf on New Year’s Eve at my neighbor’s. Unless you count frappucino’s, which I don’t really count as coffee.
Anyway, I followed that cup up with nothing until March, when we vacationed in Kona, Hawaii…and it began. I generally only go to Starbucks on occasion. I will buy their instant coffee packets for camping. I occasionally get a gift card for filling out a survey online from engineering companies. Otherwise, I buy my coffee at Trader Joe’s and make it at home. I mix decaf (first pregnant, now nursing) and regular. I’ve been drinking the Chai flavored coffee. I may toss in some choc syrup and half and half…
My sister didn’t start drinking coffee until last year – at age 43! I think I’ve been drinking coffee since I was 18. 😀 And I think Hannah started at age 12!
I’ve been getting into a bad habit of indulging in a Starbuck’s White Chocolate Mocha every weekend (Sat & Sun!), but put the kibosh on that last weekend. I’m off the stuff for 30 days. Only 26 more to go! 🙂
OMG, I have had those Jenn, and they are so good! Then I found out the grande ws 470 calories AND 63 grams of carbs – definitely not insulin friendly!
Yay for the 5K! I like Starbucks but I don’t go there unless I have a giftcard. lol
I didn’t know there was a 3 inch sandwich either, that’s little. Glad to see you got out and exercised, it’s always hard getting back into it. Not a Starbuck’s fan but, not really a coffee fan either, except for iced drinks 🙂 That flank steak looks great, I imagine it cooks quickly. Seeing the sweet corn makes me want some!
I sampled that lime cooler on my way to work this morning. My first though, wouldn’t be bad with vodka. Is that wrong at 8 am?
Nothing wrong with that Jacky – that’s why I like you – great minds think alike!
Can I just state I’ve never gotten anything from Starbucks, other than a muffin? I don’t drink coffee and the closest one is 30 minutes away, although I hear we are getting one. I’m glad I don’t waste my money on it!
I don’t understand the hype surrounding Starbucks (or Dunkin Donuts) – but I’m not a coffee drinker. I’d rather spend my money on shoes and clothes! Ha. 🙂
Um, and running equipment Heather!!
I was more of a Starbucks lovers back in Louisiana when we had one one base and around many corners…here you have to go inside a grocery store for one. You better bet that during the fall I’m there for pumpkin everything though.
I’ve heard it takes 21 days for a habit to form as well, I need to just actually give things 21 days to stick!
Ha – me too! 😀
Woohoo for a glorious run/walk. Well done!
I’m not a Starbucks junkie simply because there are only Starbucks at the big cities and not in many. They are expanding here but not fast. That’s why a coffee from Starbucks is a treat for me. I would never spend so much money in a year for a daily cup of coffee. Coffee/Cappucino/Espresso/Tea is free at my job so why buy it 🙂
Yeah, I’d agree two weeks is a bit long to be off exercise. I know with running it’s said you can go around a week without losing fitness or endurance but after that it starts to go downhill. I bet you’re going to find as you do your daily walk or whatever that you feel better. Then you’ll wonder why you ever stopped lol!
Tricky nutrition facts – I hate when that happens.
Actually, the pumpkin sauce usually comes out in the very beginning of September 🙂 I only know this because its usually a couple days after my birthday (september 2nd) but I beg for them to give it to me early because its my birthday haha. I am a total starbucks junkie (drinking one right now). Glad you got out despite the heat. Whoop. I haven’t been to subway in ages, your sandwiches always look so good too
I am definitely not a Starbuck’s junkie, because I hate coffee! I go there occasionally (it helps that the closest one is 30 minutes away) and get iced passion teas. I do like it when I travel, because it’s a reliable assumption that there will be a Starbucks anywhere in an airport and usually get fruit cups, protein smoothies and sometimes a chocolate chip creme frappe with skim.
What??? Not like coffee? You are crazy Errign! 😀
Especially because for half the year for the past three years, making coffee was my job!
