Thanks for all your well wishes for the Foodbuzz Food Blogger Contest! I went to Food Buzz to see my competition, and it will be a miracle if I make it to the next round. Voting begins on Monday so I’ll be sure to let you know then how to vote – thanks!
I have Allison to thank for introducing me to the savory oats last year. As soon as I saw her putting Frank’s hot sauce on oats I was sold!
I believe I have kicked it up a notch this fall though. After the oats cook for 1 minute, I remove from the heat, add Frank’s hot sauce and a 1/2 ounce of cheddar cheese. On the side I cooked egg whites with ham, spinach and the other 1/2 ounce of cheese, then put it all together.
The oats are so creamy because of the cheese, and I may have added Tabasco to the top of my eggs! It’s filling and delicious!
I decided I am going to walk outside at lunch for as long as I can – our winters seem to last forever and there will be plenty of hours in the gym when its cold and snowy!
Lunch was the very last of my simple tortilla soup – with cheese and tortilla chips on the side.
In this month’s Food Network magazine, they had a chile rellenos burger that looked interesting. I didn’t follow the recipe exactly, but I grilled a poblano pepper until it got charred, then chopped it up with a chipotle pepper, fresh cilantro, lime zest, salt and pepper with 4 ounces of ground sirloin.

Suggestions needed: We are having an open house at my Mom’s 70th birthday on Saturday night and I am still trying to figure out some appetizers to walk around with. I’ve already decided I am going to make bite size quiches, but need a couple more – any ideas?
Oh, and one more feature of my camera I just discovered! I have a selection of ten frames I can add to my pictures. Um, you may be able to see Hannah’s new Monroe piercing in this pic!
p.s. There may be a 1991 video of our Oprah show appearance on tomorrow’s post! Tony is going to try to figure it out today. 😀
The oats sound wonderful! I need to try something like that to diversify my oat eating!
Hannah is gorgeous! 🙂
Off to read your Foodbuzz submission! I was going to participate, but I’m having writer’s block!
Love Hannah’s piercing!
The oats sound pretty good. I’ll have to play with that recipe sometime.
chicken meatballs sliders are great for parties, bite-size and easy to transport, too.
Best of luck on the contest. Your soup is calling my name! It all looks mighty tasty! 🙂 You were on Oprah?! Cool!
Cheese & crackers is my personal (easy) fave. Other good ones are things you can skewer on a toothpick – olives, bacon scallops, fruit, roasted veggies, caprese skewers (mozarella, tomato & basil leaf). Things people can grab a small handful of are fun too – m&m’s, mixed nuts, etc.
Nice breakfast creation! The hamburgers look awesome! Enjoy those outside walks before winter comes. I so wished it snowed here!! All tropical in Florida 😉
I have never heard of anyone putting hot sauce on their oats! How interesting!
I don’t eat burgers that often but your burger just looks so good, it makes me want to make one asap!
I recently made stuffed dates wrapped in proscuitto. I stuffed them with marscapone and one other cheese I can’t think of at the moment. It is one of Giada’s recipe and you can find it on foodnetwork.com. It was so delicious and simple!
Thanks Kristen – that sounds so good! 😀
I approve of the new piercing! I like them, and back in the day, I probably would have gotten one, but now that I’m old I guess I should be responsible. I’m more in to tattoos now anyways 😉
Why not just do simple things like veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, and the like? that’s what our spreads always look like. We rarely make proper appies.
