I knew I was going out to dinner, so I thought I would stick to my sensible breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was three of my apple cinnamon pancakes, 1/2 cup of strawberries, 1/4 cup sugar free syrup, and not pictured was 2 slices of turkey bacon. Breakfast: 426 calories, 67 carbs, 16.9 protein, 10.6 fat and 5.2 fiber.
Lunch was a serving of my buffalo chicken chili served on a 5 ounce baked potato, 1/2 ounce 75% reduced fat Cabot cheese and fresh sliced jalapenos! 😀 Lunch: 479 calories, 89 carbs, 51 protein, 7.1 fat and 18.8 fiber! 😀
So we were meeting my step-son Joe and his girlfriend for dinner.
Tony and Hannah picked me up from work. In my customary fashion, I of course already decided what I was getting for dinner. The Sante Fe grilled chicken salad with low fat cilantro lime dressing.
However, when we got there, I was like “they have a beer sampler??!!” I love microbrews! Tony prefers his Miller Lite, but he helped me with these 😀
And then I made my fatal error. I looked at the menu again. I see the soup of the day is Cream of Tomato – my favorite!!
The Lucky Monk is known for their outstanding burgers and New York style pizza. The more I thought about getting the salad, the more I thought it would be like ordering a lasagna in an Irish pub! So I got this:
Oh.My.Gosh. First of all, the burger is perfect – so flavorful and juicy! The only thing that could have made this better was fresh jalapenos (which I asked if they had any, but they didn’t).
Both Joe and his girlfriend got the New York style pizza. I was shocked when I heard Joe order the spinach pizza! Um, turns out it was a bit too much spinach for him! But not for me. I ate one slice!
This is hands down one of the best restaurant pizzas I’ve had. It was described on the menu as Fresh, tossed spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, extra-virgin olive oil with shaved parmesan. First of all, the crust was perfect – slightly crunchy on the outside, but a bit chewy on the inside. The ricotta cheese base was to die for and the salt and peppered spinach with shaved parmesan – yum. I plan to recreate this for Friday’s Pizza Party Friday!
My guess is that one slice is: 225 calories, 28 carbs, 10.5 protein, 18.5 fat and 1.5 fiber. Oh, are you asking me if I had anything to drink with dinner?
Ready for the stats for dinner? 1,374 calories, 102 carbs, 54 protein, 59 fat and 3.7 fiber.
Was it worth it? Absolutely! I can’t remember the last time I had more than 2,000 calories, so I am just going to hit the gym harder the rest of the week.
And Joe’s new girlfriend? We liked her a lot! Very personable and she loves hot stuff! 😀 I see a hot sauce throw down in the future 😀 Meet Lizz!
After dinner Hannah, Lizz and Joe went to a hooka bar. Not sure I am even spelling that right! She had a good time with them! 😀
Stats for Wednesday:
- 30 minutes on elliptical (my knee hurt yesterday, but today it is fine)
- 2,410 calories, 257 carbs, 122 protein, 76 fat and 38 fiber
- Blood sugar average: 143
Alright, time to scoot. I have to finish putting together my breakfast and lunch, and I need to marinate my steak for steak sandwiches tonight.
Oh, and thanks for all the sweet comments regarding Tony! 😀 He’s a keeper!
Have a great day! 😀
I love to get the beer samplers in those cute little glasses. It is amazing how different each beer is!
Ouch, well, tomorrows another day, and at least the eats were good 😀
hey biz, I was wondering how your pancakes were after reheating them from the freezer. I’d like to make pancakes in bulk and freeze them, but I’d hate to be dissapointed with the taste after reheating
They are wonderful reheated! Either in the microwave, or just into your toaster 😀
I want to chime in about Tony being a keeper too—your last post had more than a few “awww”-worthy moments!
Your dinner looks mouthwatering, by the way. Good company should always be accompanied by good food. 🙂
Don’t let the day get to you – you are in this for the long haul!
An indulgent dinner that you REALLY enjoy is a nice thing to have every so often – and it looks like you had a great one!
I’m not a huge beer fan, but I love trying samplers for all the tastes – yum! 🙂
Totally worth it! That burger looks AWESOME 😀 You can’t pass up NY style pizza. Ever. I live in NY and I still never get tired of it. lol
Jenn
I don’t care HOW you do it but PLEASE, pass me some of that spinach pizza!
That pizza looks really awesome and the burger too. I am a sucker for microbrews. I always get samplers. My favourite is The Taphouse 180 beers on tap from all over the world, including some amazing Belgians.
Your Chicken Tikka Masala was AMAZING we had it for dinner last night, awesome spice level and great taste.
The Lucky Monk” – sorry, I couldn’t get past the name to relly get into the food. I’m too busy wondering how the monk got lucky!! Joe’s girlfriend is a cutie, nice looking couple.
one splurge meal isn’t going to hurt anything. glad you enjoyed it!
I read hooka and cracked up! In Boston that is how we would say “lady of the night”. Since they don’t say their R’s- so I had a good laugh. Is it hookah, where they smoke those pipe thingies?? Goin to Boston this week so losing my R’s this weekend is on my mind! Have a great weekend Biz.
I think if you enjoyed that meal which it sounds like you did…who cares! all of it looked delish!!!!
Aww his gf is pretty…I am glad you approve =)
Glad you were able to enjoy a splurge without feeling remorse or regret. You have the right mindset and know how to balance it. I love that they had a beer sampler. Very nice that his girlfriend likes hot things too.
Thanks for pic of Joe and Lizz. Have to keep that one.
Dinner looked great!
Joe’s girl friend is beautiful! I am a little old school (at 35) what is a Hooka bar? I’v no idea!! Your hamburger looks Yummy! Sounds like you had a fun night!
Here is a quote from Wikapedia (thanks to Tony!)
“Smoking a hookah is nothing like smoking a cigarette…cigarettes are for nervous people, competitive people, people on the run…when you smoke a hookah, you have time to think. It teaches you patience and tolerance, and gives you an appreciation of good company.”
Hannah described it as flavored smoke??
Those pictures make me hungry they look so good, and it’s only 7:40a.m…. I wanna burger 🙂
Sometimes a dinner like that IS totally worth it! We had a steak dinner the other night, I est. 900 cal. That’s a huge dinner too, I DON’T CARE 🙂
I could go for a really good burger. I haven’t had one in a long time!
The dinner looks amazing, especially the spinach pizza! I love the fact that you did the microbrews…that is my kind of women haha!
Its nice to splurge every once and awhile and like you said you just have to work out alittle harder the rest of the week. Have a good Thursday!
Nice dinner Biz!!!
I would have gotten the burger too!!
That pizza looks fantastic! And every once in a while you’re going to have a really bad meal. The difference is not eating like that every day or every week! You know that, and that’s why you’re achieving your goals!
My dinner wasn’t too far behind yours in calories at 1190 but not nearly as good looking!
Everything you ate at that restaurant looks fantastic and totally calorie-worthy! Watch, you’ll probably lose more weight by shocking your system like that, lol!
I had fresh spinach on a pizza a few days ago and wow was it good! Can’t wait to see what you do for pizza party Friday.
Isn’t it weird to see your “kids” head out to an adultish establishment without you?
Yes, it’s weird, but we are getting used to it! I still haven’t seen Glee yet – hope to get a chance to watch it on the DVR tonight!
Now I feel sooooo much better. Mr. Helen suggested we go “grab a bite” last night and I haven’t figured out the damage yet but I know for a fact I overdid it. At least you REALLY enjoyed every bite, which makes the extra calories easier to bear! I love that you still posted everything. One of the reasons I enjoy your blog Biz, you’re just real.
It’s still so funny how similar our nights were last night!!
That food looks fantastic, so it was totally worth it! 🙂
Happy THURSDAY! The week is almost overrrr (can you tell I’m excited…)
Mmm, microbrews…need to get me some of those for this weekend!
One day of indulgence isn’t the end of the world and the food does look fantastic!
Aw, they’re such a cute couple! 🙂
Have a great day!
