Last week Olive Spelt Bread was selected in the HBinFive club. Only problem was I could not find spelt flour anywhere, so I used garbanzo bean flour. And I didn’t have plain yogurt so I substituted buttermilk. The dough actually came out really well!
But the flavor was just “meh.” I think I needed to add a bit more salt – Tony and I both agreed that with a little butter and salt and pepper, it would taste a lot better! So back to the drawing board on this one!
I also made a loaf of cheese bread.
I also made dough to make overnight cinnamon rolls for Easter morning. At one point, I had so many loaves rising on the counter, I had to label the time when the rise was over!
I used Alton Brown’s recipe and followed it to a T. I didn’t eat one, but Maxi ate two for breakfast! Turns out she has a sweet tooth in the morning!
I didn’t think I was going to get all the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture in!
I didn’t make his cream cheese frosting though – mine was 1 cup of powdered sugar mixed with 4 tablespoons of heavy cream.
Then so much food! We did a turkey on the Weber grill:
And Tony did a ham on the gas grill – the picture at the grill didn’t turn out, but here he is cutting it. Maxi had never seen ham like that before!
I made twice baked potatoes too – but no cheese for Maxi – she’s not a huge fan. Can you believe that?! I probably have 7 different cheeses in my refrigerator!
And my sister in law brought over stuffed artichoke hearts – thanks Jody!
Proud to say I only had one plate of food – no seconds! 😀
So while I forgot to get a group photo of everyone for my parents-in-law, I did get one of Hannah, Joe and Maxi!
Guess who got up this morning and went to the gym? Yep, that would be me! I did 40 minutes on the stairmaster while reading Julie/Julia I borrowed from a co-worker. I have to give my husband props though – he knows how to motivate me to get up. Last night I declared “I am going the gym tomorrow morning!” His response? “I’ll wake you up at 8:00 so you have just enough time to get ready for work. ” Of course, I had to prove him wrong and when my alarm went off at 6:30 this morning, I turned it off, put on my glasses and never laid back down. Thanks for the push this morning Tony! I love you!
Hope you have a great Monday – come back tomorrow for Asian Meatball Soup – I can’t wait for lunch today! 😀
All of your food looks fabulous! Quite the feast. I used sour cream and a little milk because I didn’t have any yogurt either. The bread turned out pretty good.
Your breads look so great! I could have just reached right in for one of those cinnamon rolls. Sounds like you had a great Easter feast.
Very appetizing spread of food 😀
with all that delicious looking food, im so proud that you didnt go back for seconds – it all looks so tasty, and that turkey, gosh – u did such a great job! those cinnamon rolls looks amazing, have you ever made brioche? or danishes? i have amazing recipes from culinary school if you ever want me to forward them to you =)
Congrats on making it in to the gym. Those cinnamon rolls look great. Too bad the bread didn’t taste as good as it looked. I would have loved to give some a try.
I’ve been looking for that garbanzo bean flour….I wanna make chickpea fries with them!
I go out to run every morning, as soon as I wake up, and it’s like a habit for me. But I noticed that sometimes, I really DO need the rest. But at least I get out, and if I still feel blah, I’ll return shortly.
Don’t know why I said that. But anyway. Kudos to you for doing it, and Tony for giving you that push! 😀
oh the food, it all looks SO good! i think you’re really going to like julie/julia, i know i did!
great job getting to the gym, i need some of your motivation!

Glad the Garbanzo Bean Flour worked out since I’m trying it in the Gluten Free Bread this week. And your cheese bread looks fantastic!
You really had a wonderful feast for Easter Dinner. And turkey in the weber is the best!
Come teach me to make bread please! I’m a great cook but baking OMG forget it! I’m hopeless, I think it’s probably because it is so precise.

I think I’m in the minority here, but AM gym time is a demotivator for me. I feel awful after an early morning workout. I just do better after work. But great job for getting up and getting there!

I love cinnamon rolls, wish I could have one of those right now!
Cinnamon rolls is something I love but have never tried to make homemade. On my list now! Good looking teenagers…the smiles are full of personality!
I’m trying to get back into my workout routine this week too! I managed to get up at 4:15 and head out for a run at 4:45. Once I was out there, it felt so good! Your cinnamon rolls look yummy and NO I cannot imagine someone not really liking cheese!
Wooo hoooo for getting up and hitting the gym – I need to get back into that routine!
Happy Easter Biz – looks like you had a good one!
Ah! Awesome! Working out in the morning is THE BEST. It just makes me feel so much better and active and then in the afternoon I can just relax! 🙂
