I decided to be bold and actually take a picture of my scale this morning! I can always “say” I lost the weight, but I decided to let the scale do the talking:
And yet I know that I need a new pedicure! :D So I started the food pantry challenge at 167.6 – so I am down 3 pounds in three weeks. I am surely not going to win any medals on quick weight loss, but I am happy with a pound a week!
Sorry I didn’t post last night – Hannah and I had to go to the high school for the first of four meetings regarding her possibility of going to Germany on the exchange program. She’s on the fence about it – because there are so many variables – i.e., she could be in a host house that isn’t that friendly, or have house rules that you have to be home by 8:00. Have any of you done an exchange program? Did you love it or hate it? I think its a great opportunity – we have a month to decide!
I picked up a fruit salad from the cafe in my building to accessorize my lunch – it was really good!
Lunch was leftover Chicken Brunswick Stew
I had to put a quick dinner together last night since we had to go to school – it was an old favorite – Chicken Parm! I used a new pasta, and I thought it was pretty good! Hannah bought it – she loves their Fit & Active line.
And I just so happened to pick up a bag of these – YUM! Tony thought they tasted like cat pee – but Hannah and I love the vinegar taste!

Did you watch Biggest Loser last night?? I plan on discussing it in tonight’s post! And I cried like I usually do! Okay, gotta get ready for work! See you tonight!
I wished I had taken up on one of the exchange programs my school offered. A few of my friends did and they come back all saying it was one of the best experiences in their lives. They all tell me it is a very rewarding experience. An easy way to get more “worldly”. I regret not taking the chance when I had the opportunity.
Congrats on your weight loss again.
im LOLing over tonys comment and the editing done by you biz!!!
we had five exchange students in our house (not at once… 5 yrs in a row..haha) and everyone loved us.. i guess it does depend on the family and how much fun and time and effort they want to put into hosting a student. we always had day trips planned and even took one of our students to DC!!!! she loved it!
i would definitely find out if there is a way out of staying with the family if something goes wrong!! but hopefully she will be placed with a nice family!
Congrats on the weight loss! I think one pound per week is awesome!
Popchips are awesome… I bought some today but had to make sure I hid them from the toddler as he is obsessed with them… 😉
Keep up the good work…
I love salt and vinegar, the combination is great! And, congrats on your three pound weight loss! You are the perfect example of someone who eats what they want, but who can manage to loose weight because you watch your portions and take responsibility for what you put in your mouth. Great job. And, one pound a week is great in my opinion!
Three pounds in three weeks is excellent!!!
My son went to Costa Rica when he was 15 for 6 weeks – lived with a family and went to a Spanish-language immersion school. He really liked it, and his family, but you DO get luck of the draw, so Hannah might get a not-so-good family. Do they get compensated for hosting a student? Is that their only motivation? Max’s family Mama used to teach at the school, so she had lots of involvement with the program. Is there a liaison person in Germany that she could get help from if there is a problem with the family?
That said, she should go – I’ll bet she would love it!
I studied abroad in Ireland the first semester of my freshman year of college and I LOVED IT. I even work in the study abroad office at my school now encouraging other students to do it too!
I totally recommend this! If you guys have general questions, shoot me an email! (I know the situation isn’t totally the same, but probably kinda close!)
1 pound a week is fantastic — that’s a weight loss that will STAY off!
I watched BL — still love the show but I am so tired of Jillian’s in-your-face cursing.
You are so brave to stand on a scale in front of the world! Big ups to you for that.
A pound a week is fantastic! Way to go!! For what it’s worth, all of my friends who did exchanges in high school or college LOVED it!
I laughed out loud when Tony said they tasted like cat pee!!! Too funny!
Way to go on the “Shrink for Good” challenge, Biz! Better consistently down than rollercoastering like I was. I’m hoping mine will level out now that we’re settling into the school schedule.
No advice on the exchange student program, other than it sounds like a great opportunity. If she decides to not go now, she might enjoy a college-level study abroad program. My BFF spent a year in France during college, and she LOVED it, but then, she was living with a good friend who was also in the program.
That’s funny about the salt & vinegar popchips. I’d probably love them, I love salt & vinegar potato chips. (The husband? Not so much…he’d agree with Tony, I’m sure…not that they’ve ever tasted cat pee, I hope!) There’s another flavor we have in common…now I’ll think of you & Hannah whenever I eat salt & vinegar chips, I already think of you every time I pick up a bottle of hot sauce. (Or, when I eat something bland and don’t put on hot sauce, I usually think to myself, “Rats! Now, you know, Biz would remembered the hot sauce….)
Actually what I said was ” If two pieces of poo were to mate, their child would taste like this”. And I did not use the word poo! Biz is always editing my language.
OMG, you are right! Where did I get the cat pee from??!!
OMG YES!! I cried my eyes out!! I LOVED BL last night. As usual, Bob and Jillian didn’t fail to energize me and remind me of my love for fitness, nutrition and the show!
As for the exchange student thing… I never did it but my best friend in High School did. He loved it but theirs was only about a 2 or 3 week exchange. It wasn’t long enough to really feel homesick or get tired of his host family.
Also, GREAT JOB on the weight loss! A pound a week is PERFECT!!! Keep up the good work! 😀

oh, and RE the families: my older brother didn’t dislike his host family, but they were…’different’ (ie, kinda cuckoo). BUT, he was barely in the house- the program had so many activites and events on, that it was really just breakfast and dinner a few days a week. Different programs work differently though…some spend more with the family than others so ask lots of questions about itinerary, etc 🙂
Congrats- 1lb a week is a great rate for sustainable loss 🙂
Exchanges are SUCH a good way to experience another culture. I didn’t do one, but both of my brothers did and had amazing times. Both of them are now fluent in German, and my older one went back there to study for a while when he was at college.
ahhhhaaaa “tasted like cat pee!!” Love it! 🙂
I personally don’t have any abroad programs, but growing up my parents regularly hosted an au pair from Europe each summer for my brother and I. My friend Brittany just got finished doing a year’s program in Holland BUT she’s now over there permanently b/c she met the love of her life and he proposed!
If Hannah absolutely hates hates hates it and her family is mean and horrible is there an exit plan? Can she break some contract and come home early? Sometimes just knowing that in the back of your head helps you through a tough situation – makes you feel like it’s more in your hands to make your final decision for you.
4 days!!!!!! 🙂
I went to Germany and high school and absolutely loved it. I HIGHLY recommend any abroad experience, it will change her life!
Great job on slimming down 🙂
