Sloppy Joe's

Yield: 4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

I disliked sloppy joe's as a kid because it was too sweet for me. This recipe has a hint of sweet, and a bit of a kick with crushed red peppers to make this the perfect sloppy joe.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 pound ground sirloin
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (I used Montreal Steak Seasoning)
  • 1 red pepper, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

Instructions

  1. Spray a large skillet with avocado oil spray. Cook red peppers for 5 minutes.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, stirring to combine, and simmer for 5 minutes, or until your desired thickness.

Notes

These are not too sloppy, so if you are looking for that consistency, add an additional 1/2 cup tomato sauce.

Click here for the WW tracker. As of the date of publication, the sloppy joe mixture is 7 WW points.

I chose sesame kaiser rolls! These weighed in at almost 4 ounces each, so I only had 1 half, which ended up being 1.5 ounces

This is the brown sugar/steak seasoning mix that went in the sloppy joes - I read the label and and red pepper is an ingredient - that may have been the spice that was too much for Tony!

We all agreed because they weren’t so sweet, they didn’t taste like sloppy joes at all – but we all loved it!

My plate - 1.5 ounce sesame bun, 1/2 cup sloppy joes, 2 ounces cheese fries, 1.5 ounce red pepper, 3 ounces carrot and 1 tablespoon Annie's goddess dressing

I have no idea exactly how many calories my plate was – my guess is between 500 – 600.  I forgot to mention in my earlier post that before lunch I completed day 25 of 30 day shred!  I ended up doing level 3 and those lunges really kick my a$$.  I had trouble getting off the couch earlier! 😀

I used my tried and true oven fries tonight, but experimented and only used 1 tablespoon of oil and they turned out fine – that way I could add 1.5 ounces of cheese!

I had 2 ounces - so yum!

And I got this in the mail – yes its a size MEDIUM!   Thanks Zesty – love the shirt!!
