Hannah and I had a meeting at school last night regarding her German Exchange Program! I am so excited for her! We know our exchange student will be staying with us during spring break (for a total of 20 days I think) and they have so many activities planned, not sure how much time we’ll actually see her! Hannah doesn’t got to Germany until after June 6, but no set date yet.
I want to apologize for the Yoplait link that didn’t work yesterday! My brother Charlie (he’s back to blogging!) is hopefully going to help me get it up and running this weekend – stay tuned!
Breakfast yesterday may become one of my favorite omelets – a Taco Omelet!
Biz’s Taco Omelet for One
- 1/2 cup egg whites
- 1 ounce leftover taco meat
- 1 diced chile in adobe sauce
- sliced peppers
- 1/2 ounce cheddar cheese
My blood sugar was on the low side (80) before working out, so I had part of my lunch before working out – I had planned on having two egg rolls, since my soup is so low calorie, so my snack was one egg roll.
My workout was 35 minutes on the treadmill. It’s a walk/job/sprint. After my warm up, I walk for two minutes, jog for 2.5 minutes at 4.5 mph, then sprint for 3 seconds and repeat. My highest sprint yesterday was 7.3 mph! Then I did 5 minutes of abs with the balance ball.
Lunch was the last of my Spicy Thai Noodle Soup, to which I added baby spinach, and the second egg roll.
I knew dinner had to be thrown together really quick, and what is quicker than spaghetti! I try to have good canned tomatoes on hand to whip up a quick pasta sauce:
Biz’s Quick Pasta Sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 heaping teaspoons minced garlic
- 2.5 cups canned tomatoes (I puree mine!)
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
- 1 pound ground sirloin
Heat olive oil. Add garlic until it starts to turn golden. Add meat and brown. Strain off any fat, add tomatoes and seasonings and simmer while pasta water is coming to a boil.
My plate: 1.5 cups baby spinach, 6 ounces cooked pasta, 1/2 cup pasta sauce (not pictured – garlic bread!). I added crushed red pepper to mine, and had I just been making this for myself, would have added it in the above ingredients. Delicious!
GIVEAWAY TIME!!!!!!!!
It’s All About the Numbers
Like it or not, my life is run by numbers. From how many carbs I eat, how many units of insulin I need, how many calories I consume and how many calories I burn. Numbers are everywhere in my daily life. But the biggest number to me, like it or not, is the number on the scale. I know its all about how you feel, how your clothes, fit, etc., but unfortunately, even though I can sprint at 7.0 mph on a treadmill, at 160 pounds I am considered obese on height and weight charts!
Why do I have to be so short! I forgot to tell Tony, but when I was at the doctors office earlier this week, I found out I am only 5 feet 1 1/2 inches! I lost 1/2 an inch somewhere! Do you know what a healthy weight range is for my height? 106 to 118! While I graduated high school at 116 pounds, I didn’t start my weight gain until after I stopped being a four season athlete. Somehow I kept up with the eating and without all that exercise, before I decided to do something about it, I was 210 pounds!
So I was thrilled when William of www.eatsmartproducts.com asked me if I would review their bathroom scale! The first thing I noticed taking it out of the box was how light and thin it was! My old scale you had to tap it with your foot to turn it on, weight for the zero to pop up and then step on. Not this one! You just step on – it takes a couple seconds but then blinks when it has captured the weight. But the best part is that number stays on for seconds after you step off – so now I don’t have to hold my camera while weighing in! :D Check out this link at Amazon.com – this is a $35 scale people!
All you have to do is leave a comment for one entry, telling me how often you weigh yourself and why. Another entry if you link back to this post. Good Luck!
Alright, time to get ready for work already. Today is Bosses Day and I had to get up early to make Apple Buttermilk Muffins with Oatmeal Strussel topping. I’ll post the recipe tonight if they get good reviews!
Have a great Friday and good luck!
I weigh myself everyday but record my Monday weigh ins. That scale is addicitive!! For me it is just a reminder of the journey that I am on and reassures me that I am doing it.
I weigh myself almost daily, but the only one that counts is Sunday morning. I do that so I can monitor fluctuations early, but I only use Sunday so I don’t start dwelling on the scale. For me it is one of several useful tools that help me keep myself in check all the time. I am linking back to this tonight.
Great giveaway! I don’t own a scale, but there’s one at the vet clinic I work at to weigh the dogs, so a couple times a week I’ll hop on it to check my weight. I like weighing myself partly out of pure curiosity- I’m fascinated at how different foods can cause us to weigh more or less due to water retention etc- and partly to monitor my progress and make sure that I don’t gain anything unknowingly.
I always weight myself naked and after I use the bathroom( TMI I know) and always in the morning and never when I’m on my period.
i would weigh myself weekly but my scale stinks! daily is a little much for me but weekly gives a good gauge. i am investigating a good scale, thanks for the recommendation!
I weigh myself once a year, at my annual check-up. I’m six feet tall, so my ‘healthy’ range is a bit higher; still do not like the numbers. After giving birth, I weighed myself sometimes 3 times a day, watching the baby weight fall off. 🙂
I used to weigh daily but i have to admit it was stressing me out. So this month is the first time i’ve weighed in at the beginning of the month and i’ll weigh in again at the end! So far it’s great 🙂
My bathroom scale at home is inaccurate so I never weigh myself there. I jump on the scale whenever I am at the gym and at the doctor’s office. (maybe 2-3 times a week?)
Since we all weigh in naked, be cafeful with that camera! Ha-ha.
I couple years ago I weighed myself everyday and couldn’t imagine NOT doing so. Somewhere along the line I stopped though…as of now, I probably weigh myself once a month? Just to check in 🙂 I’m glad it’s gotten less obsessive along the way. Thank goodness!
well…being on weight watchers I weigh once a week…every friday…but I find myself jumping on the scale more often…sometimes…every morning…ekkk
I never weight myself (ok maybe once every 3 months) because 1) i don’t like to know the number as it plays games with my head, and 2) my scale sucks! hahaha
Mmmm your breakfast omelete is SO up my alley. Unfortunately egg whites really don’t fill me up!
oh how yummy! i love the taco and spaghetti, they look amazing!
Yum, that spaghetti looks super delish.
I weigh myself once a day at least. I just like to see the number, lol.
i never weigh myself cause i don’t have one ><
Every other day-ish. It doesn’t make or break my day but it helps keep me in line.
I used to weight every morning after …., but I got obsessed so I quit. Now I weight every now and then and when I go to the doctor! 🙂
I only weigh myself maybe once every couple weeks. Pretty much because I get depressed when I look at it so I’d rather not know! Yeah..it’s bad.
I weight myself everyday and have since I started on my journey to better health. Now that I’m in maintenance it’s part of how I’m keeping myself accountable. I was actually just talking about it today in my post. Check it out if you get some time.
Just a comment about your ideal weight range. Those charts aren’t always the best measurement of healthy for your height since they don’t take into consideration of your actual body composition. I’m one of those people that the charts aren’t the best measure. According to one of the charts I’m suppose to be no heavier that 145lbs. I’m about 152 right now but I have a body fat that is about 21%. When I got my body fat measured a couple weeks ago the medical professional who gave me the results said I don’t have to loose anymore weight based on the fact my body fat is at the low end healthy range for a fit woman of my age. I just happen to carry a fair amount of muscle which makes the healthy weight range for me higher than what those charts say. You might want to get your body fat measured and see where you measure up compared to the charts.
Thanks CF! 😀
I rarely weigh myself, b/c my weight fluctuates so much it gets me depressed or way too excited. haha I just got a new scale actually! I love it! It has two users and you tap to turn it on, wait for your number, then stay on. The numbers stay up a few seconds after you step off, too! (So you don’t need to enter me in the contest!)
That taco looks sooo yummy and we’re going to be having a very similar dinner tonight!
I weigh myself every Friday, but forgot to today!
Don’t enter me in the contest since I’m your twin I don’t want to make it seem unfair!
I weigh myself every other day, because I can.
Yea don’t enter me either. I was wanted to be included.
When I’m actually on plan and doing well, I usually weigh myself daily to keep me motivated. When I’m doing just terrible, I never go near that thing! 😛
I weigh myself once a week. Same time every week. This way I’m consistent. I hate daily weigh-ins because even though I know weight fluctuation is normal, it stresses me out! Once a week is best for me. I even have a nifty spreadsheet a la Dietgirl!
I should remember not to read your posts just before lunch, now I want to eat an hour early!
I agree that as much as I’d like it NOT to be about the numbers, right now it is. I weigh myself weekly on Wednesdays. I find the daily fluctuations from water/salt/whatever mess with my head if I weigh more often than that. If I ever get to my goal weight, I want to weigh myself once a month, just to stay in check.
Hmmm first that omelet looks AMAZING! Seriously, I want one right now.
I don’t ever weigh myself. I’m probably the only one that will say that. I was obsessed with weighing myself for way too long, so I just don’t do it anymore. I guess I will say once every 6 months (doctor visits!). Every once in a while I weigh myself at my parent’s house, so I guess it’s more like once every two months. I try not to focus on the number, just on how I feel 🙂
PS: Linking back on my blog and Facebook!
I started out weighing myself when I went to the Doctor — about every three months. When I made that first BIG drop of 20 pounds, I started weighing every three weeks (still at the doctor’s office).
Now, that I *KNOW* I can lose this weight, I weigh-in every Monday morning.
I weigh-in on Monday, so that I can see if I’m headed in the right direction (downward) or need to change / update eating / fitness by an upward climb or a plateau.
I still weigh-in at the Doctor’s Office because, frankly, we just can’t afford to go out and buy scales at this moment! (Daughter’s a senior in HS — extra monies go to her!)
The mental image of you fumbling with your camera while weighing in gave me the giggles…
Being a dietitian I know not to obssess over the number. I weigh myself once a week, keeping it consistent (same time of day, same amount of clothing). Since the weight can fluctuate based on water (males can have huge changes throughout the day), the only real way to get an idea of actual weight lost is to not do it every day. It will often frustrate you may not be acurate of your true weight. that being said, we are all human beings and regardless of what we know, I know many people will still weigh themsellves more often than is recommended. Just my 2 cents!
I weigh myself once a week. I used to weigh myself every day but was getting too obsessed with the number. Once a week is a good balance for me.
Looking at your amazing dinner photos made me realize that I haven’t had spaghetti in a long time. It’s a dish that is so comforting to me and brings back lovely memories. I see spaghetti in our future… 😉
I weigh myself once or twice a month. I have been everywhere on the “weighing spectrum” over the years, from never to several times per day. Several times a day was certainly not healthy…
I am pretty okay with my weight right now, but I want to check up on it regularly so things don’t get out of control. I once gained a lot of weight “without noticing it.” Well, to be honest, nothing fit and I only wore pants with elastic waistbands… But I was truly shocked to see the number on the scale; I had gained LOTS of weight in just a few months. And I decided to never ever let that happen again…
Honestly, I haven’t weighed myself in forever. Since I started running, I really don’t find the need for it because I don’t care as much….or maybe it’s because I don’t have a scale 🙂
I weigh myself more often than I really should (everyday), but I’m trying to lose my last few lbs and I’m eager to see that goal weight number flash back at me! I could really use a more accurate scale.
I used to weigh myself everyday.. Now I’m trying to ditch that (bad!) habit so I weigh myself once a week or so. 🙂
Ughhh, have the same problem you do-5′ something and 160-needless to say, I check almost every day for my scale to be in a good mood-rarely is though 🙁 Maybe a new scale will give me better numbers!!! LOL
& I linked back 🙂

I only weigh myself occasionally when I am at the gym, because my scale at home is really old and the numbers are small!
I have some weight to lose too, ’cause I am the same height as you and weigh 135!
