My friend and I went to the farmers market, and happily the cheese lady stand was open, but I have never met a more unenthusiastic person in my life! After we bought our cheese and walked away, I said “that’s it, I am banning the cheese lady!” Until I tasted the low fat havarti with basil – to die for!
My opinion is that its probably her families company, and they are making her do the farmers market! We saw some delicious bread – I want to try to make this at home because they wanted $7 for this loaf!
I defrosted a NY strip and decided to grill broccoli. I bought whole wheat pitas at the Farmers market, and grilled those too – I noticed in my cupboard I had this mix and decided to give it a try. It’s probably been in there six months and never been opened!
I also bought a fresh bunch of garlic – I peeled the garlic and sprinkled with olive oil and wrapped it in foil to cook on the grill while the steak was cooking – but the time everything was ready, it spread like butter. 😀
We sat outside until about 9:30 last night! Perfect temperature again, so we figured we’ll take advantage of it for as long as we can!
I have a busy work day today, so no post until tonight – hope everyone has a great Friday and I’ll see you tonight for Pizza Party Friday!
Tofu doesn’t grill so well.
The key to good tofu is freezing it first, then thawing it, cooking it over a skillet on the stove until both sides are browned (yellow is probably more true), then dipping it in sauce (honey + anything: BBQ, whatever) and baking for 30 minutes. The honey is ESSENTIAL it really does make all of the difference. It makes it crispy. Freezing the tofu makes the texture of the tofu less mushy and more meat like.
Also, make sure the tofu is extra firm.
Hope that helps 🙂
The cheese sounds sooooo good – havarti with basil, what an awesome combination!
And I can smell and taste the roasted garlic… I’ll have to remember to roast some next time we barbecue…
Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
I was going to add my vote to marinating the Tofu…
I love baked tofu…could never convince my brother to throw it on the grill..lol…
I am the only one in my family that likes tofu…
The bread, oh the bread. Ahhhh!
I agree- cut the tofu thinner, press it for an hour or so with paper towels and a huge pan on top 😀 then marinate and grill!
That bread looks AMAZING!!
My tofu suggestions would be to press out all the water, slice it thinner, marinate it in something (or season it), and then grill 🙂
Except for that blah brick of tofu, your grill looks yum! I don’t know how Hannah does it, eating tofu…that is one food I have never learned to like.
I’d maybe cut the tofu in half lengthwise so it was two thinner blocks and more sides could get the lovely char.
My mom and I used to marinate in balsamic and always pair grilled (or roasted) tofu with eggplant – they compliment ea. other beautifully!
That steak looks awesome!!!
Did Hannah put any kind of marinade on the grilled tofu??
Check out this recipe from eating well with a grilled tofu recipe that sounded good:
