It’s funny because I usually don’t have a sweet tooth at all – breakfast included. But since I’ve made Martha Stewarts buttermilk pancakes, I can’t get enough of them! I mean come on, two giant pancakes for 181 calories – I am in!
So yesterday I decided to enter the recipe again just for the batter. I decided to ditch the 4 tablespoons of butter in the batter and use that recipe as a base. Then I can adjust the calories for whatever I want to add to it – apples, bananas, blueberries, etc.
Here is my adjusted base recipe:
Marty’s Buttermilk Pancakes (well, Bizified)
- makes 10 pancakes, 5 servings – each serving: 181 calories, 6.03 fat, 26 carbs, 1.2 fiber and 5.25 protein
- 274 calories, 3.9 fat, 49 carbs, 1.8 fiber and 9.7 protein
Yep, turns out I said it was 10 servings – which is 181 calories per pancake instead of five servings of two pancakes each. Sorry Louise! I know you’ve already made these!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup eggbeaters
- 1 cup non-fat buttermilk
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (mine is 30 calories a cup)
That being said, these are still delicious and I can justify having two pancakes for breakfast now that I know how many actual pancakes they make! Yesterday I added blueberries, bananas and two tablespoons of walnuts. So good! And while this plate is 475 calories, it’s so filling and gave me lots of fuel for my lunch workout.
I decided to find a StairMaster workout to do at lunch – thanks Pinterest!
And yes, I know I have to update my google Chrome – thanks for the reminder. So my first thought is what the hell is “hold weights in grocery bag position?!” I just held the weights down at my side.
And as for the resistance – yeah, that didn’t happen – have you ever gone level 15 on a StairMaster – that’s like running up the fucking stairs – with weights! So I ended up going low and slow since the weights were throwing me off balance. I went between level 3 – 5 – 7 and back down. The hardest one was holding the weights over my head – but I have to say, it felt like a good workout!
Before work I cooked up some ground sirloin to make burritos for me and my boss. The black poo on my plate is actually smashed canned black beans that I added some chicken broth, cilantro and chipotle peppers to. We also each had 1/4 of an avocado that I mashed and used as a spread.
Have you guys ever seen the movie Mean Girls with Lindsay Lohan? She gets back at some of the girls who are being mean to her by giving them energy bars that are supposed to make you gain weight – her Mom used to give them to village kids in Africa where they lived to bulk up their diet – only Lindsay tells the girls they are African weight loss bars. Needless to say, all the girls gain weight and can’t fit into their prom dresses because of them – that was her revenge.
Sadly, whenever I put food in front of my boss, she thinks I am trying to fatten her up. Not kidding there are some days when I tell her that her lunch is 400 calories and she tells me that she will probably skip dinner then. Gah. I keep reminding her that she and I are eating the same thing – so pretty sure I am trying to sabotage myself!
I knew I had some chicken tenders I needed to cook up, so I decided to make chicken taco salad for dinner. I stopped by a local grocery store on my way home. I need to hit up this store over the weekend to spend more time there – its huge!
I just wanted to pick up some stuff for the salad and I didn’t have any cheddar cheese (I know, I kind of just panicked as I wrote that sentence!). $2.56 later, I was all set.
Rhonda and Mary – check out all the cheese!
I ended up making two Pam/light oil chicken tacos – each had only an ounce of chicken in them with a bit of cheese and Romaine and of course, hot sauce. The salad? It was eaten after I ate my tacos. My dressing is 1 tablespoon blue cheese dressing (all we had) and 1/4 cup of my baja fresh salsa.
This was really good – the dressing was spicy too – delish!
Last night was Day 58 of Insanity – Max Cardio Conditioning. I think after the Max Interval Sorts Training this is my favorite one. The last 30 minutes are continuous but it goes from high intensity, down to low intensity and back and forth.
Hello shoulder definition!
Only two more days until I hit Day 60, then I’ll do the final Fit Test and measurements on Saturday. And then start it all over again!
Tony was a trooper last night and not only watched Chopped but also Top Chef Masters. After those were done though, he sarcastically said “I just wish there were more cooking shows!” I still have about 10 more on the DVR (like 48 episodes of America’s Test Kitchen!).
Right as Tony and I were finishing eating dinner, Kyle showed up. There was no food in the bowl on the deck so I filled it up. She scared the shit out of me because she came right by the door when I went to fill it up – I spooked her so she would move back.
Holy cow she didn’t waste any time – she didn’t stop eating until the whole bowl was gone!
I went downstairs to get laundry out of the dryer and I could hear Tony talking. I just assumed he was on the phone. Nope, he was talking to Kyle – who was going ape shit! I should have taken a video but the squirrel was almost barking at us – it sounded like this squirrel.
It just wanted more food and came right up to the front door I thought it was going to walk right in – we freaked out and just shut the door. And locked it. Because you know squirrels have tiny hands and can open front doors.
Stats for the Day:
- 1566 calories, 69 fat, 174 carbs, 24 fiber and 70 protein
- 45% of calories from carbs, 40% from fat and 19% from protein
- 30 minutes StairMaster with weights
- 45 minute Max Cardio Conditioning
I have to give a shout out to my friend and blog reader Laura – she read how Tony and I were upset about running out of our beloved Rudy’s bbq sauce – never thought to google a copycat recipe, but she did for me – thanks Laura! Can’t wait to try this over the weekend. (And I like that the blogs name is Beth’s Favorite Recipes!)
I am off to . . . cook more pancakes and make a cold noodle Asian dish for my lunch. In my head it turns out, we’ll see! Make it a great day!
I am sure one person already told a similar story, but I am going to tell mine.
Yah, so there 😛 hee
My Mom used to buy peanuts for the Squirrels that hung out on her back deck. Big bags of the kind with the shells on. She would leave a pile on the picnic table every morning and they would eat the all. Then she decided they looked hungry in the evenings so they got a dinner time meal of peanuts.
My Mom was going through some serious peanuts and they Squirrels were making a mess. One day she decided that enough was enough and she wouldn’t feed them anymore [or something like that. I don’t remember] But, what I do remember is leaving the back [French door] open and the screen door shut [a slider] and coming home from the store to find Squirrels [plural. SquirrelS] foraging in my Mom’s kitchen for their nuts. They were on the counter, scurrying around the floor, on the kitchen table. It was….well….NUTS. My Mom dropped her groceries and ran while I swung my bags and chased them all out the back door.
My Mom kept the back door curtain closed for a week ’til the little stinkers got the hint and she never fed a Squirrel again. In fact our neighbor [best friend with my folks] was having a problem with them getting in his bird feeders so for Christmas one year my Mom bought him a bird feeder that zaps the Squirrel [but not the birds] when he lands on it. My Mom, Dad and the Hagers spent many an evening entertained by [mildly] shocked Squirrels shooting off the bird feeder. hee
So, yeah – be careful. He is a cutie tho’.
I read the post above – but commenting takes too much scrolling – so I will just say you are looking quite gorgeous, nice job on the weight loss – but 4.3, although doable – isn’t really the greatest idea in 10 days, but you have the right attitude. GO BIZ!
And every girls dream come true – being watched by no less than five lifeguards. You go girl ::grin::
OMG, how scary is that – that’s why Tony LOCKS the doors, you can never be too sure! I am not going to sweat the 4.3 pounds – just keep doing what I am doing, and it will come off eventually. Hugs to you!!
Thanks for the shout out Beth; let me know how the recipe turns out ,if is comparable to Rudys? I have squirrels that comes to my yard for cracked corn and it drives my kitten nuts! Charlie will sit and cry as the squirrel torments him chirking as Charlie is meowing.LOL
Okay – I’ll let you know! 😀
Holy crap I cannot believe you had no cheese on hand! Bad Biz, bad! Lol that store has an amazing selection!!! I’m really getting into sharper cheeses…more flavor meaning I can use less! Win! I love pancakes I’m going to try that batter! How long will it keep in the fridge?
Way to kick ass on your workouts! I can’t wait to see the results of your next weigh in!! Hope you had a great day!
I’ve had that batter in the fridge from Monday to Friday – gets better withtime!
Saturday is my next WI – wish me luck! 😀
The black poo on your plate…lol! 😉 Too funny! Your boss sounds a little bit out there. I mean really? Are we back in high school! That cheese section is awesome. I need to get to the local cheese store to pick up some more. I love trying all the new kinds. Your shoulder definition is definitely there…woot! I love those squirrels and I wish I had more…darn dogs 😉
You just wanted to say poo in a comment. 😀
Oh shut up…you’re right dammit!!! 😉
Awww don’t worry about the pancakes whether they are 181 calories for one or for two….they were still good! And I will probably make them again. My husband liked them, so the whole batch does not even last a couple of days. Cause I put whats left over into his lunch box with peanut butter on them, he likes them hot or cold.
Okay – whew! Thanks Louise – I have to say, never had a cold pancake!
First of all I think it is funny when people ‘skip meals’ because that just makes things worse! Your body then wants to store fat.
All that cheese looks so good, all I have in the fridge is a tiny bit of brick cheese and I am sort of sweating right now 😉
Your shoulders look awesome, that is some good definition for sure.
Thanks Rhonda – love that you decided to try the donut burger in SF – brave woman!
Weights over head on a stepmill, while actually climbing the stepmill? Woman, you are crazy! I would fall off in a heartbeat! Knowing my luck, the weights would hit me in the head and knock me out completely. 🙂
Did you know there are blogs dedicated to making homemade meals for your dog?! Maybe Kyle and Lyle should get their own recipe page on My Bizzy Kitchen! 😉
I was afraid of dropping the weights – but I did grab onto the rails just in time.
OMG, Kyle and Lyle could become famous!
I wondered if you were going to go through the program again?! Nice!!
Do you watch MasterChef, Hell’s Kitchen, Next Food Network Star? I love cooking shows even though I don’t cook nearly as much (or as creatively) as you!
Yep, yep and yep! And now we have Top Chef Masters too! Poor Tony – he loves me so to watch that food shit with me! 😀
I think Kyle and Lyle need their own twitter account. I’d follow! 🙂 Your arms are looking buff my friend!!! All your hard work is paying off. Have a great Thursday.
OMG, that would kill – I’ll have Tony do it!
I’m bad at math, too. EXCEPT, I am really good at figuring out Sale prices. And I have one word for you when it comes to squirrels. Babies! But they are really cute,, too!
I am good at numbers when it comes to sales too – $$ wins! 😀
Damn those squireels haha. P.s. I’m loving your guns!
Thanks Fiona! 😀
I’m pitiful at math….
and YES I visit Heinens all the time! It is apart of a Hamilton Partners development, so, try to support it as much as I can. My mom goes literally almost daily, ha! Try going on a saturday afternoon – like 4ish or so, tons of amazing samples (high end ones) and wine! It’s so fun.
Did you see that there is a new burger place right next door – I guess Tropical Smoothie went out of business – its called meathead burgers – looks interesting!
I totally understand on the math. It is not my strong area either.
Look at those guns! Keep up the good work. 🙂
I am just getting ready for the gun show Caron! 😀
You are spoiling that squirrel 🙂
Shhh…that’s what Tony keeps telling me!
Oh my, you are getting bullied by a squirrel!!!! 🙂 Heinen’s looks like a store I might like to shop in….you sure have a varity of places to explore!!!
Food looks good today, bought some hamburger, maybe I will make tacos today with a salad. Those burritos look yummy too. Sounds like your boss is eating right. As she is probably “eating like a King in the morning, a queen in the afternoon and a pauper in the evening.” I heard this long time ago, to lose weight, we are to eat a Big breakfast, medium lunch and hardly nothing for dinner so the food is not lying in the stomach over night.
Oh well, to each his own. I guess we have to find out what works the best in our lives.
Hey Biz….I noticed you have not got Lasagna Soup listed in your Soup list…..that’s a keeper you know thanks to Suzie.
I am so far behind in adding my recipes to my side bar – 100s+ behind. Someday I’ll get organized! 😀 She does need the props for that soup!
Mmm, burritos look amazing! That’s hilarious that your boss would think that, but you do make her some yummy stuff!
I’m dying over here about Kyle, what a crazy girl 😉
Good luck with your move Sam!! I am going to hold you accountable for your August goals – get ready for it! 😀
How come I’ve never thought of mashing an avacodo to put in a beef and bean burrito? Thanks, now I will!
I am just changing lives Suzi – one avocado at a time! 😀
Kyle’s getting too big for her britches! haha I suck at math too-it was never my strong subject.
My twin sister either and she ended up being a personal banker for 10+ years – ha!
Growing up we had a raccoon that would be the same way. He was crazy.
The burritos look fantastic. I can see why your boss gets suspicious.
You have me inspired to try insanity. I have heard such great things!
Just a few words of advice Sarah – stick with it when you start! 😀
Kyle sounds pretty aggressive – she needs to take a chill pill and learn from Lyle. P.S. I often lock my doors against cats, so I totally understand the need to keep safe, lol!
Your boss sounds like she’s got some major food issues, which is sad…but I think a lot of us are messed up like that due to years (decades?) of dieting.
You know what, we haven’t seen Lyle for a while – I think Kyle has taken over! I agree – just because people are skinny doesn’t mean they are healthy. 🙁
