Since I can’t run I have to ride the bike which means I get to read blogs the very second they hit my reader. Congratulations Biz!! That’s awesome. I live in Massachusetts. Off to twat the giveaway! Sounds so dirty. LOL!! Have a great day.
Congrats Aimee! Send me an email at mybizzykitchen@gmail.com with your mailing address.
Let’s quickly show yesterdays eats, because after seeing the food pics, you may not have an appetite!
I tried making a pumpkin parfait. It is close to being great. I love that it isn’t overly sweet, but I need to add some texture to the canned pumpkin – maybe mix it with diced apple or dried cranberries? Admittedly, my co-worker thought it looked like baby food, but this was delicious – 1 container of plain Chobani, 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin mixed with 1 tablespoon of sugar free pancake syrup, and for the granola, I broke up one piece of Pioneer woman’s granola bars.
I left my good camera at the office, so thanks google images for my breakfast and lunch pictures! My parfait came in at 388 calories, 6 fat, 62 carbs (eek!), 7.4 fiber and 25 protein.
I WENT TO THE GYM! Knowing that I still had over 100 miles to get to in just 9 days, I ended up doing 12.9 miles on the exercise bike in 45 minutes. I did random hills on level 5 and kept my RPMs over 100 the whole time – its been nearly a week since I’ve worked out!
Lunch was leftovers – red beans and rice with sausage, mixed with 1 cup chopped baby spinach. Lunch comes in at 555 calories, 23 fat, 60 carbs, 8.7 fiber and 27 protein. Can you tell I chose this picture off of google images because of the Tabasco sauce??!!
When I got home Tony asked what was for dinner. I said chicken. He said “didn’t we have chicken last night?” Well, yes we did, but chicken was the only meat I had thawed out. So I said “chicken sandwiches and fries or chicken mushroom pasta.” He said “Chik-fil-A sandwiches with mayo and pickles!”
Truth be told, I still have yet to try a Chik-fil-A. I told you there was one that opened up near our house but the place is always packed, even two lanes in the drive-thru!
I loosely based my recipe on this one: Um, there’s looks pretty amazeballs!
I did ours a bit differently. Each of our chicken sandwiches was only 4 ounces and pounded thin. Each sandwich maybe retained 1 tablespoon of milk and 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture. I didn’t butter our buns, and I left out the powdered sugar in the recipe, but that’s just a personal taste.
I topped ours with 1/2 ounce slices of American cheese, used light (80 calorie) buns, and I topped mine with these pickles, which are amazing and almost all gone.
I was going to throw the brine away when I saw on the label: “uses for pickle juice: marinate chicken, pork or beef.” What??!! I am bringing pulled pork sandwiches for our Halloween luncheon next week and plan to use this. Yum! So my sandwich by itself comes in at 347 calories, 23 fat, 15 carbs, .1 fiber and 22 protein.
I may have dipped my fries in this?
It was a simple, quick and easy week night dinner. You should check out the original recipe though if you’ve had Chik-fil-A before.
It’s been a couple months since I KERFed out loud. I actually haven’t read her blog lately, but my co-worker sent me a link. She and I are on the same page that we just can’t figure out what is so interesting about her – I think she doesn’t seem to have much personality, I’ve never known a blogger to post more pictures of themselves into almost every post. (Tony thinks that I am just jealous that her blog is more popular than mine!)
What stopped me in my tracks?
SHE ATE HER PLACENTA!!
In her original post she actually posted the picture of the woman who was encapsulating her placenta, while her placenta was on the kitchen counter. It’s since been cropped, so I won’t let you get too grossed out.
That lady above drove 100 miles round trip ($300 in total to cook the placenta and mileage) to make placenta tea and encapsulate her placenta into pills. Their doula took the placenta from the delivery room and brought it back to KERF’s refrigerator.
Nicole also left “placenta tea” in fridge for when I got home, which was essentially the broth she cooked it in (I think?) seasoned with spices and flavors to make it palatable. I was brave and gave it a taste – it was like the strongest black and herbal tea I’ve ever had mixed together. There was no trace of iron or blood or anything gross. In fact, both my MOM and MATT tasted it!!!
There was no trace of iron or blood or anything gross? Seriously, I am just happy I was young and clueless when I had Hannah. There was no internet to speak of, I didn’t read any books. Just followed my doctors advice and somehow she turned out okay.
Am I just old and this is the newest and latest thing?? I am so curious to hear what my nurse and RD blogging friends have to say about it!
And will wait to see the comments for me to just mind my own business. It’s okay, I’ve got my big girl pants on today.
HAPPY FRIDAY! Only 94.33 miles to go in my 170 miles challenge – woot!
Eating the placenta is very popular with mommy bloggers right now. Not sure how I feel about it.
PS – I usually share with Pooldad whatever I am reading while I am on the net, especially if it is odd, funny, gross, delicious – but this is beyond the pale and I don’t have the words to even tell him why I am over here trying not to gag. I honestly cannot tell him that people actually do this. [or at least one woman!]
I leave you alone for a few weeks Biz and THIS is what I come back to? Placenta eating? I am not a well woman y’know and this just made me nauseous beyond my worst nausea. giggle ::wink::
I have to agree with three things said above – 1. What a fad. [and a stupid one at that] 2. It may be edible, but it doesn’t mean you eat it. If your body needed it it would KEEP it. bleech 3. WHY does she feel necessary to share this on the net? Really.
I am still appalled by people that video tape and SHARE the videos of the childrens birth. First off I was at all of my children’s births and I don’t need a video of the moments. I remember it all very well. TYVM – but to SHARE IT? You might as well ask your local gas station attendant to be in the delivery room with you. Who in the heck wants to watch someone else give birth?
This is not only gross – but it is extremely evident she is doing it for the shock value and to get attention. Anything to get blog hits I suppose. People wonder what happened to the state of humanity in the world. It’s easy – people no longer feel any shame. Like they say even bad publicity is still publicity.
People often say “Can’t wait to see her kid’s therapy bills” when a mother posts something like this on the ‘net. I usually chuckle because they are just exaggerating for comedic value. In this case? Whoooboy – this poor kid. IF she started his life with this whopper you can only imagine when he begins potty training.
Kind of makes you wonder what his first meal is going to be? giggle
Now Bizzy – are there anymore surprises I need to know about before I go forth? I have missed you and can’t wait to catch up. Hugs to you, Tony and Hannah. 😀
Biz, I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago and I love it!! Especially the fact that you realize how crazy KERF is haha…love it. You just seem really genuine, which is honestly a rarity in the blog world. Just wanted to let you know that you have a new loyal reader!
Try ChikFilA if you want to support a company that discriminates against gays and lesbians. As a lesbian woman, I would NOT give a dime to that company, even though I like the chicken sandwich. Mcdonald’s has a southern style chicken sandwich that is the exact same sandwich as ChickFila. Its cheaper too and their fries are a lot better.
the thought of having a kid grosses me out enough to not have any but now that is just absolutely disgusting. thanks for that.
I would much rather have that sandwich, with onions!!! 😉
I think the placenta thing is a “new age” thing with young mothers. There is a lady here in Huntsville, AL that does it. Supposedly by taking in your own hormones you recover faster. Bleh! Who wants to recover faster? I wanted to milk that whole 9 months for everything I could get. 😉
I’ve been a labor and delivery nurse, and NEVER did I hear any of my patients wanting to keep, much less, eat the freakin’ placenta. That is just disgusting. That’s like people drinking their own pee. Hellooo? If the body needed it, it wouldn’t get rid of it! People are f’n nuts.
KERF has nothing on you, no jealousy there. And just because the placenta is real, doesn’t mean it is food. Have a great weekend.
i just don’t get it. not one bit. if the placenta was meant to remain inside you, your body wouldn’t naturally expel it. right?
however, it doesn’t stop me from thinking your chickn sandwich looks incredible! have a great weekend!
Heard of lots of weird crap but that’s a new one! Wow!
Ahh I forgot Chik-fil-a was anti-gay! I used to love them. Their waffle fries are the best.
I just had a 10 minute long conversation with my hubby explaining why I was making a horrible face (reading about the placenta) and then I told him – and he was horrified. Even if you’re going to do that, WHY WHY WHY put it on the internet??
I’m pretty sure she got that idea from Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point – she encapsulated her placenta and took the pills. Whatevs.
I can’t bring myself to try Chik-fil-A since they are anti-Gay. Your version looks most delicious!!
I used to read KERF and my thinking was along the same line as yours. Also, her food never looks that good and in her pictures she always looks so smug. This whole placenta thing is very odd.
Woop! Thanks Anna! My favorite thing she said a couple weeks ago?
“So I’ve been doing this mothering thing for about two and a half weeks and I think I have it down pat!”
Just wait until he’s two and starts drawing all over your white walls!
Biz, if that’s you’re actual sandwich I’d much rather have that one than the first one.
Thanks Renee! It was tasty. 😀
Thank God, when Tony asked “What’s for dinner” you said chicken, and no placenta. 🙂
Good job on the bike, that’s quite a few miles! We don’t have Chic-fil-a here, I’ve seen lots of copycats recipes though. You chicken sandwich does look amazeballs!! Other uses for pickle (or olive brine) mix with a little oil and you have a great salad dressing…yum! Eating the placenta that’s disgusting and so is the freakin’ tea! Whoever would do that is a little screwy in the head if you ask me. Gag! I’m with you Biz, we probably had our kids the same year and we just winged it pretty much and I’d have to say they both turned out well 🙂
You just wanted to use the word amazeballs! 😀
I’ve never been to Chic-fil-a either. They don’t have them in Minnesota.
I laughted at the placenta thing. I’ve never heard of that. I could MAYBE see if we lived in hard times where nourishment was an issue or something. But really. So not necessary.
Reading this is a great diet tool……..grossed me out!
Your pumpkin parfait looks good to me, I’m going to try it and throw in some craisins.
Good for getting to the gym! Have an excellent weekend! 🙂
I’m sorry but that is just gross!
Great job on your exercise Biz! I love pulled chicken sandwiches with pickles! I have a good slow cooker recipe for them. Great for making for company.
Have a fantastic weekend.
eww! I only read KERF occasionally, and never checked out her baby blog. Glad I didn’t! I’ve heard of people doing this, but it’s absolutely something you should keep to yourself.
With that insipid smile on her face she looks like someone who would eat or drink placenta. Mondo grosso . . . got that bilely taste in my mouth just reading about it. I try to keep an open mind and not be judgmental – but, that is too over the top!
Yeah, I think the placenta eating thing is a fad. Creepy, though. Yuck. I read somewhere that someone else wanted to send a loved one’s ashes to be compressed into a cubic zirconia to wear as jewelry. Ewww? I guess there is always a niche market to make money.
I won! Yay!!! Thank you so much Biz. That whole placenta business is all the rage amongst a few new moms in the blog world. Hey like with anything else put a little Barney Butter and some chia seeds on it and you would never know you were eating human tissue!
OMG Aimee – that is too funny! Like Tony and I say – we pretty much would eat anything if it was breaded and deep fried!
Ugh on the placenta eating. Sorry, even if you choose to do something like that, you don’t have to SHARE IT with everyone on the internet!
My daughter in law had a baby 7 months old and she had a doula and this is just what she did. I think it was crazy. I’m with you glad I didn’t have all this information.
Biz, I worked in L&D for 8+ years, I have honestly never heard of anyone taking their placenta home to eat. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I mean out in the wild, I suppose animals do this…but hey, we’re civilized right?
chik-fil-A is one of those things I reserve for once a year. I LOVE the original sandwich and the waffle fries they sell. It was hard staying away when I did some promo work for my neighbor who owns a store. It’s so good though. The chicken is actually pressure fried. This keeps it tender, moist, and keeps it from absorbing too much oil.
Thank you Renee – I knew someone would know! They even had to fight at the hospital a bit to be able to take it home – ew.
I think I just threw up a little – that’s just disgusting!
Your food looks delicious, think I’ll make a pumpkin parfait for lunch today. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
That’s just gross. Have you seen the movie Wanderlust? there’s a couple in it who decide to leave their kid’s placenta attached until it fell off on it’s own (super hippies) and the dad just walked around behind the mom with it in a bowl. Gag.
This will make you smile (or just laugh)…Darren called me last night to tell me he had a present for me…and it was a freaking ROOSTER hahahhaha.
That made me laugh Errign – love it!! I am so happy you are happy – you deserve it!
I’m definitely grossed out about eating the placenta….sometimes we just have to draw the line….and that is the line for me!
I visited our Chick-fil-a for the first time yesterday. It has been open over a year. The sandwich was o.k. but the chicken wasn’t crisp but a big soggy. Yuck on the placenta!!
That’s what Tony says – he thinks its overrated, but I’ve never tried it – and didn’t realize they were open for breakfast either!
I actually made a pumpkin parfait very similar to that! I dipped graham crackers in it 🙂
I’m truly speechless with regards to the placenta.
Chick-fil-a on the other hand, YUM! Yes you must try it . My daughter and I love the chicken on Multigrain bagel for breakfast. It is so big we usually split one.
Whoa! That’s craziness right there. And I have to say, totally grosses me out think about it. Eeewww.
u lost me at placenta…grosssss. Still have no clue what KERF is. Also – this time of year I always get a craving to cook with pumpkin and every time this year I realize – I just don’t like pumpkin infused meals…so I will enjoy your pumpkin posts but refrain from cooking with it this year. Good luck getting in your miles….now that you’ve finished your roof project you’ll make your goal.
OMG, you have to try Chick Fil A!! I don’t live by one anymore–so sad!
And seriously, gross!!! The whole “placenta tea” almost made me throw up…I can’t even imagine having that in my fridge, let alone drinking it…
