Canned Chicken Nuggets

My friend Mayra from Low Carb Love made these canned chicken nuggets, and these turned out delicious!

Don’t let the canned chicken freak you out.  The best part about this recipe is that it has so few ingredients.  Full recipe is on Mayra’s site and can be found here.  I just air fried my nuggets at 400 for 12 minutes.

What are the ingredients in chicken nuggets?

When you look at commercial or frozen chicken nuggets, the ingredient list is kind of a lot!: White Boneless Chicken, Water, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil), Enriched Flour (bleached Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Bleached Wheat Flour, Yellow Corn Flour, Vegetable Starch

These chicken nuggets are just canned chicken, egg, parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese and your seasonings of choice.  And no oil other than the avocado oil that you add before baking.

Canned Chicken Nuggets

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 17 minutes

My friend Mayra from Low Carb Love posted these chicken nuggets and while it may seem weird to use canned chicken, these are delish! The only difference is that I used my air fryer instead of baking them like she did.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounce can chicken breast (drained and patted dry)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons mozzarella cheese
  • seasonings of choice (I used garlic powder, salt and pepper)

Instructions

  1. Heat air fryer to 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
  2. Drain the chicken and squeeze dry. Add egg, and cheeses and mix until combined.
  3. Divide mixture into 8 nuggets, shaping them with your hands to come together.
  4. Spray with avocado oil spray and air fry for 12 minutes at 400 degrees.
  5. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and fruit and veggies on the side.

How long does canned chicken last in your pantry?

Canned chicken is a pantry superstar, offering convenience and a surprisingly long shelf life, making it perfect for quick meals and emergency food supplies. Generally, unopened canned chicken has a shelf life of 2-5 years when stored in a cool, dry place. This is because the canning process seals the meat and preserves it by preventing bacteria from entering. Be sure to check the expiration or “best by” date on the can, but often, canned chicken can remain safe even past that date as long as the can remains intact and shows no signs of damage. It’s a handy item to keep stocked for last-minute meal prep or to toss into soups, salads, and casseroles.

Can you reheat these?

Yes, you can reheat canned chicken nuggets! Since they’re already cooked, you’re just warming them up. For the best results, you can reheat them in the oven or an air fryer at 350°F for 5-10 minutes to crisp them up, or microwave them for a quicker option (though they might not be as crispy). Just be sure to heat them until they’re hot throughout. Canned chicken nuggets make a quick and convenient protein boost for meals or snacks.
