I recently got a continuous glucose monitor. I can’t talk about it yet, because my posts are with the companies legal department for review before I can post about it.
But it’s been fascinating because I could literally check my blood sugar every five minutes if I want.
Yesterday I woke up, my blood sugar was 119. I didn’t eat or drink anything (forgot my coffee at home – had water) and when I got to my desk, checked it again and it was 252. WTF.
Can I just pause for a moment and tell you how happy I feel when the sun is shining and it’s over 30 degrees!
I took insulin, ate my breakfast, and it was 301. So I took some fast acting insulin to bring it down. No big deal.
This parfait is my new favorite by the way. I used fresh blueberries and pineapple to make my very berry sauce and it’s perfect with the blueberry cinnamon Safe + Fair granola. Um, turns out I’ve been saying you can buy 4 things get one free, that would be no. Oops! Here is my link to buy 4 things, get one free and free shipping for March.
Jenn and I went shopping at Nordstrom Rack. Long time readers will know that I normally don’t shop at retail stores – I get all my stuff from Goodwill and soon garage season will be upon us. But I loved these Democracy pants – they have something called “mold and hold” technology – all I know is that my pants are super comfy!
We also had a fashion show with hats š
I had every intention of posting this chili recipe on the blog today, but walked off without the recipe, which is sitting on my kitchen counter – promise tomorrow! This is one of my new favorite chili recipes – I used half Certified Angus Beef and half ground turkey breast – and used chopped chipotle peppers – swoon – it’s got the perfect balance of spiciness.
I checked my blood sugar when we were at the store, it was 69. By the time I got back to my desk, it was 49. Gah. So I ate a banana, an orange and a Bilt bar quickly because I had work to do. I didn’t eat my lunch until nearly 4 pm. My lunch was 6 points – 5 points for the chili and one for the lite mozzarella.
I wasn’t all that hungry for dinner since I ate my lunch so late. This fried rice was perfect though. Leftover beef and pork (3) 1/2 cup rice (3) and green beans, broccoli and zucchini. My sauce was a tablespoon of Marion’s Thai pepper garlic sauce mixed with coconut sriracha – so good! This came together in less than 10 minutes. It helped that I had leftover rice from Hannah and Jacob’s takeout š
The woman I sit next to is diabetic too, so we are always swapping stories. The ups and downs of diabetes are just a part of life – there are so many variables to controlling your blood sugar, but we both know how important it is. This new device will help me in that endeavour – can’t wait to share it with you!
Happy Wednesday friends – come back tomorrow for the chili recipe – it’s supposed to be back in the 20s and 30s this weekend. š
Make it a great day, and don’t eat like an asshole – Love, Biz
I always think of Tony whenever you mention fried rice. I just love the video you guys made of it. It made me giggle on your story when you said the one sauce was even a bit spicy for you. I too love spicy but tone down stuff for the rest of my family. I’m starting to worry a little because I have been noticing I’m finding some things I react to I never have before. A jalapeno actually caused a blister under my tongue the other night and it took a glass of milk and a spoon of honey to calm the burn.
I once ate a ghost pepper not realizing it – I had my tongue in a glass of milk for hour! I am so happy we made that video š
I read your blog everyday and have for years. I really don’t comment much but am really interested in hearing about the cgm. This year is my 25th anniversary with T1 and I’m starting to see small damages done to my body. Good control is so important and also so dang hard! I just don’t know how I feel about wearing something 24/7.
I am going to email you! š
The chili looks good! Make sure you link to the chili contest that you crushed š. New readers will LOVE that!
That’s true – thank you!!
I discovered democracy jeans over the summer, and they are the most flattering and comfortable jeans I own. I also got mine marked down to 11 bucks, normally 69. I got mine at a Boscov’s.
