I hope everyone had a great Halloween! Me? It was just another day. But I lived vicariously through my friends who have little kids and we had an amazing weather day in Chicago, which rarely happens on Halloween. Seriously we had some years when on October 30 it was 70 degrees and then on Halloween we’d have sleet/snow that would require snow boots and winter coats.
I declared yesterday a no treat day. I talked about the holiday season being just an excuse to eat anything and everything. I’ve decided to pick just six days through the holiday season where I just don’t care, but then get right back on track. Yesterday, since it wasn’t a special day, didn’t count as one of my six days.
I got to my desk and my boss said “I know how much you like scones so I picked you up one at a special bakery near my house.” So nice! But not on my plan. I cut off a corner and had a bite, and gave it to one of my friends – it was delicious though! I stuck with my breakfast sandwich, which apparently I never took a picture of.
Jenn worked from home yesterday, and it didn’t matter because I worked through lunch. I did make a delicious wrap – I forgot about those lavash wraps – only 2 points for the whole thing – I had 1/2 ounce of cheese (2), turkey breast, spinach and lots of pickles. And a delicious kiwi.
I worked until about 5:30, and said on Instagram how I didn’t have time at all during the day to check out Halloween costumes – so many people shared with me – thank you! How cute are these dog?? I forgot to ask permission to post the kid pics, but I felt it alright to share the dogs 😀
I defrosted some buffalo chicken chili and had chili mac for dinner – the chili was only 1 point so I added 1/2 cup of pasta and this hit the spot. I did not eat any of the candy that Hannah and Jacob brought, and not shockingly, we didn’t get a single trick or treater. I hope Hannah takes it to work 😀
Turns out Roman loves my chili too – he licked my bowl clean!
My favorite costume of the day though, was my friend MaryBeth and her husband Josh and their kids – they went as characters from The Little Mermaid. How awesome is that?! Um, turns out Hannah watched that movie about 4,000 times. In a row. Whenever I asked her if she wanted to watch a movie, she’d ask “can we watch Little Mermaid?”
Hocus Pocus is her other favorite. We don’t have a DVD player set up and it’s not on Netflix, so Jacob rented it off amazon for 30 days for $1.99. I asked her if she was going to watch it every day for the next 30 days and her reply was “duh!”
How did we get to November 1 already?! Seems like we just started to bring out the grills and now we are a few weeks away from Thanksgiving.
I am really going to concentrate to make these last two months count. I don’t want to wake up on January 1 wishing I would have done this or that – just do it.
Congrats to my sister though – she just started back on WW last week and lost 4.2 pounds her first week – great job!
So far I know that Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and NYE are three of my six days where I won’t care what I eat.
What are your tips and tricks to get through the holiday season without a ten pound gain?!
Happy Thursday friends – make it a great day!
For me it is just one of those mind over matter things. I have to NOT feel guilty about taking the time needed to spend on me. That is probably my biggest obstacle to overcome. So if anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them! I love seeing the parents dressing up with the kids. I love seeing all of the various costumes and imagination people put into it. So much fun. Congrats on staying away from the candy!
I am working on making the last 2 months count too. Instead of saying the hell with that considering how open till now my years gone, I’m really going to try to do everything I can to make November 1 my New Year’s day resolution start rather than January 1 .
Love that idea! I figure if I can have enough will power to not eat Halloween candy, I can do anything! 😀 Here’s to us both succeeding 😀
I love Halloween, and enjoying seeing all of the costumes. I wish I would have had a place to wear one too. The last few years we have been giving out glow sticks, bracelets etc. The little kids really seemed to grab those from the bowl the first year I did it so now it is a thing. It saves us from having all the leftover candy to deal with. I’m really surprised Hannah didn’t dress up your pups for a photo shoot.
OH! For cute! It was beautiful here in MSP, too. I’ve only lived in MN since 2002, but this time of year, we always hear about the Great Halloween Blizzard o f’91. LOL. I remember growing up in Wisconsin, it felt so silly to get all dressed up and then have to put our winter coats on just to go trick-or-treating!
Hey Carrie! Yep, there have been plenty of Halloweens where I had to find Hannah’s snow boots – nice the kids got a break this year – and today is cold and windy!
