Oh hello. I am about to show you the most pitiful day of eats. Well, except for that bone broth! I forgot I had these in my deep freezer. They were buried under piles of meat – ha!
Nona Lim sent me a variety of their bone broths, and they are delicious. This one is barely 1 point or 25 calories. They can now be find in most Whole Food stores. I am not sure of the price point, but they came to me frozen. I defrosted it in my fridge the night before last, then just heated for 1:30 minutes in the microwave.
Work was crazy busy yesterday and I had this around 9:30 and it kept me full for a couple hours. I did add a bit of crushed red pepper to spice it up, but that’s just me. And, of course I have crushed red pepper at work, don’t you?! 😀
Around 11:30 I had a hard boiled egg and sliced turkey breast. It hit the spot.
I mentioned on my Instagram story that I brought mystery “soup” to work. I wasn’t sure if it was black bean soup or marinara sauce! It was black bean soup. But I reheated it three times and after the third time, just gave up. It tasted good, but I have no idea how long it was in my deep freeze. Although it does kind of look like ground up dog food.
I was not expecting to work last last night, but I caught the 7:30 train home, which gets me home at 9:00. I’m not going to go into details, but its sad that the person with a high work ethic (aka – me!) gets all the responsibility and is constantly the go to person because everyone else just says no. We had a very high net worth client in the office that needed documents notarized, and no one would stay 30 seconds past 5:00. Insane.
I barely touched my phone all day and when I got on the train I had 87 direct messages on Instagram – glad to know people were like “where is my Biz TV?!” #love
I know I had pictures of my dinner on my phone, but this morning, they were not there. I made chicken, corn and spinach tacos for dinner last night. And ate the at 9:30, and was in bed by 10:30.
But check out this clear pumpkin pie!!! I so want to try to make that. But the recipes I’ve seen are like “make your pumpkin mash and let it sit for 5 days – then read the directions for your distiller.” What?!
I am going to work on that recipe. You’re welcome.
Hey – my delicata squash biscuits are posted on The Chopping Block! Go check it out – these are the most forgiving biscuits – so easy to make. If you don’t have delicata squash, butternut squash is the perfect substitute.
You can check out the recipe here – first #delirings, then #delipups, then #delignocchi – now . . . #delicuits!! (I have my friend Jeana to thank for the name for the delicata biscuits).
I added fried sage on top, and while it didn’t stick to the biscuit, before eating it, I crumbled it over the top and got that hint of sage in every bite. So good! I will say though, they are best eaten the same day made. If you have leftovers, they can be brought back by toasting them – with a little apple butter or strawberry preserves, it’s a good thing.
Happy Wednesday my friends – make it a great day!
I feel your frustration. I’m that person in my office too. The people that work hard, are dependable and have strong work ethics only get more work. We are a rare breed. I’m crazy busy juggling 100 things and other assistants are coming in late, taking long lunches and leaving early. Bill always says it’s my own fault because I can’t say no and the attorneys just take advantage of me. I’m often in early, work through lunch and stay late. It can be exhausting. No good deed goes unpunished.
Tony used to tell me the same thing, but I am just not one of those people who can just show up whenever or waste time on the internet or talking to people at their desks for 30 minutes straight – drives me nuts!
Hugs to a fellow dependable worker!!
So, you know that it is sad, and it’s not sad about the work ethic. It really depends.
For one thing, it’s great to be dependable. It’s great job security.
Also, are you paid hourly? I assume you get some kind of overtime for this (I hope anyway).
I consider everything to be a sliding scale of some sort.
One of my sisters is a manager in a company that does inventories. She runs a district. She has a hard time getting/ keeping reliable people, and often vents. “Oh my kid is sick waa waa. Oh, I just couldn’t get out of bed, waa waa. My car broke.” Etc. So my random thoughts and comments, in no particular order:
– If someone’s kid is barfing, you do NOT want them coming to work. Somebody has to stay at home. If there’s no grandma, there’s no such thing as emergency “take care of my barfing kid” care
– Sometimes cars break down. Poor people often don’t have reliable transportation
– Most families have 2 working parents. Face it, sis, if YOUR job is the lesser/ lower paying job, then you lose. Which person gets stuck staying home with a sick kid? When there are bills to pay, it’s the one who makes less money.
– My sister does not have children, so she doesn’t get that.
– Life ebbs and flows. There are times when you can be there and go all out. There are times you can’t. Training for a marathon/ taking night classes/ having small children/ traveling husband/ or JUST DON’T FUCKING WANT TO DO IT because I don’t need the extra money. I’ve noticed the working hours ebb when you have young children and peak in people whose kids are grown or at least in college.
People complain about millennials a lot also and I just think that some people want work-life balance. One would hope that the people working harder get paid more, so there’s fairness. People fought for a 40 hour work week for a reason. It’s one thing if working late is occasional, another if it is regular. It’s a balance. Your balance is not someone else’s balance.
I want to reiterate that it’s not sad to be the go to person. It’s good – but it’s up to YOU to decide how “go-to” you want to be. You have to decide when to push back. I have a coworker who hit 60 and cut his hours to 30 a week to ease into retirement. Another coworker complained and said “must be nice”. I just shrugged and said “you could do it too!”
I agree with all those things Marcia, and realize I am in a different situation because I don’t have small children. My point is that when people are at work, they claim they are busy and can’t possibly take on more, and I’ll walk by their desk and they are watching a movie on their phone with headphones on.
My daughter and son-in-law are millennials too, but they both have a strong work ethic, which makes me so proud.
So I don’t get it. These other people work for and get paid from the same people you do? So why can’t the boss say hey you will need to stay a little later tonight and they need to plan for it? You work for a pretty big firm and I would think it just goes with the job sometimes. Maybe the attorneys need to rethink their “team”. Clear pumpkin pie? I have not seen such a thing. It looks kinda cool but call me old fashioned and give me the traditional pie unless the clear pie is a delicious ,nutritious pie so that I could have a bigger piece.
I do get paid overtime, even though I am salary. We only have two people (me and another woman) who can work overtime. This prevents people from clocking out 30 minutes after 5, because their train is at 5:45 and they “worked” that half hour. Multiply that by 30 secretaries, that adds up to a lot of overtime – so on days that I don’t stay late, I have to clock out at 5. Does that make sense?
And I am totally going to try to make that clear pie!! Without a distiller, because I don’t even know what that is. 😀
