August 1st? Really? I can’t believe it. This summer is going by way too fast, so I took the morning “off” and sat outside with Hannah this morning for a couple hours and we ate breakfast outside and chatted, caught up, watched youtube videos and drank coffee and water. It was glorious!
Last Friday I made a breakfast pizza, and a bunch of my WW peeps were begging for the recipe. This one is easy, because you can make your own dough, or buy store bought dough to make it easy on yourself.
Since I had my party pizza Friday mix with the breakfast pizza, I switched things up and we had taco fiesta on Friday night. The Fresh Market has something called “little big meals” where you can pick your dinner for $20 for 4 people.
I ended up getting the chicken, green chile corn tortillas, New Mexico sauce, reduced fat cheese, original guacamole, light sour cream and the corn and black bean salsa. It’s really quite a lot of food – all three of us ate, and I’ll have stuff left over for at least two more meals for me. The only problem was with my corn tortillas from La Tortilla Factory, they were all cut off for some reason, and I didn’t notice it when I bought them.
I had flour tortillas at home, so I had one flour and one corn tortilla. The black bean and corn salsa was good, but a bit on the sweet side, so I added my spicy salsa to it, and it was delish.
I ended up having the same breakfast Saturday and Sunday. Dutch Farms sesame bagel (6) with egg white, ham and cheese (3). It is really hard to eat at 4 and 5 a.m., but since I hit the ground running when I get to the shop to pack stuff up, I need the fuel. That’s quite possibly the worst food photo I’ve taken in a long while. Pretty sure professional food photographers don’t use dog treat jars and a block of knives in the background
I was with Saran Wrap kid again on Saturday. The market he ran last week when I was in Glenview only did $600 – with me running the market, we sold $1250. He smokes too, so I kept a stop watch and he took 35 minutes in breaks to smoke in a 5 1/2 hour market. Oh, and remember how I was telling you that he was watching Pokemon Go on his phone a couple weeks ago? This time he had a laptop on the ground and had headphones on. I asked him what he was doing and he said “listening to a book on tape.” While driving, with headphones on. I quickly told him that was not happening while I was in the car with him.
It was a gorgeous day on Saturday. While I was at The Fresh Market, they had bone in chicken breasts on sale for $1.99. I got two – one for me and one for Jacob – two breasts were nearly 3 pounds!
Since these were so big, I cooked them in my cast iron skillet on indirect heat for nearly the entire time, then finished them off with my HCB pineapple garlic sriracha bbq sauce – I could barely eat half of one breast, so I’ll use the rest later this week in something, or Jacob can take it to work for lunch.
Sunday was just as gorgeous. I’ve yet to break $2000 at the Sunday market, and that was my goal for the day. I knew I had to be close when it was time to pack up and all I had left was three carrot cakes (out of the 20 that I brought!) and 3 lone veggie burger patties. I have to give my buddy Alberto huge props at the wrap station. Normally I pitch the veggie burger wraps closer to lunch time, but since it can have a farm fresh egg and cheese, I started pitching them as breakfast burritos. Within the first 10 minutes of the market I already had 6 burrito wraps ordered. In total, we sold 70 burger wraps and salads. He works so hard and tirelessly, and we make a great market team.
Since Alberto drives, I was able to add up the credit card sales and cash, and was stoked that I set a market record with $2150! $150 over my goal. The only time this market made more (just $50) was at the last sale of the summer where people stock up for the winter, but I don’t count that as a regular market day. Pretty sure if they had employee of the month, the certificate would go to me – ha!

As I was driving home yesterday, my Aunt Martha sent me a text showing me that Talenti gelato was on sale for $2.99 at her grocery store. I turned her and her boyfriend onto Talenti when I was in Virginia in April. This stuff is like crack. Hannah was making sushi for herself for dinner and needed a few things, so I stopped at the store on my way home – and of course had to check out if the Talenti by me was on sale, and it was. I was good and only bought one – caramel cookie crunch. I haven’t yet scanned the bar code to see how many points, but it’s probably 5 points per 1/2 cup and totally worth it.
While Hannah made her sushi, I grilled up some flank steak for me and Jacob. Again, seasoned just with Hardcore Carnivore Black rub – again grilled on indirect heat and then finished off on the hot coals. I took the meat off at 125 degrees and let it rest 15 minutes before slicing it. I made a zucchini mushroom saute on the side and it was delicious.
Speaking of Hardcore Carnivore Black seasoning, ever since I discovered it about six weeks ago, I’ve talked non-stop on Instagram and the blog about how much I love this rub. So much so, that they sent me some loot to thank me for talking about their product.
I put that picture on Instagram, and Jess Pryles, the maker of the rub, commented!
And then a couple days later, I got the same loot! I think it was a mistake, but a happy mistake, because now I can give one rub and coozie to one of you! Simply leave a comment and tell me what your favorite thing is to grill, or what favorite grilled food you like to eat. That’s it! I’ll pick a winner on Friday. But that’s not all! The same lucky winner will also receive two jars of the HCB pineapple garlic sriracha BBQ sauce!
Good luck!

My time hop today was sad. Two years ago today was the day I had to leave Tony at Mayo Clinic for a week to go back to work. I cried so hard after I left his room. I just remember how once I stepped into the hospital room any time he was in one, he instantly relaxed and could sleep. I remember telling the nurse “please take care of him for me.”
I can’t believe we are a few months away from him being gone two years already. It seems like yesterday sometimes to me. I hope he’s proud of how I’ve handled things without him – even with my impulsiveness of quitting my job – he always told me I could do anything if I put my mind to it. His unconditional love is what I miss most. Alright, I am tearing up right now, so time to close this post and get busy. Make it a great day!
I love all things grilled but the best is Pizza!
Your posts are so inspirational!
I’ve almost bought that rub about 3 different times now…at your recommendation. I’d love to try it.
I love burgers on the grill!
Beef Satay in Curried Cashew Sauce from the Half Baked Harvest blog is my new favorite grilling recipe this summer. I can’t wait to try the Carnivore rub-all of your recipes sound delicious!
I love your blog!! I have been following along for years. We love to grill chicken and vegetables. Thanks for sharing a piece of your life along with awesome recipes.
Steak and steak 🙂 Which is why I need to win!!
Don’t enter me in the lottery. I have to admit something what I realized during our staycation and it was hot, hot, hot the first week. I never even thought about putting on the grill and realized I don’t really like grilling outside
I had to look up Dutch Farms, that must have something to do with my country and it does. Apparently an immigrant from the Netherlands started this company in 1929. Funny is that he has a typical Dutch first name and the boys from the family that run it now have American names with a Dutch last name. Funny.
I love to grill steak and shrimp kabobs!
I don’t usually enter to win things but I would really love that rub. I went on the website but just can’t afford it. I am quitting my job in 4 weeks and can’t do things like that. It’s not a need, but a really want. lol.
I do have your bbq sauce on my to do list. Always looking for a good bbq sauce. And I love, love, love pineapple.
I eat veggie burgers so I would try some of the rub on that. But I make chicken on the grill for the family a lot and they would love that rub, I’m sure.
Sorry about the sad memory but you have many, many more good ones that you can think about I know. Stay positive!! 🙂
I love to grill corn on the cob. I usually don’t eat corn, but when it’s done on the grill it’s SO GOOD!!
My favorite thing to grill is steak. It’s my favorite grilled thing to eat too!
I am going with favorite grilled meal….cause I can’t pick just one 🙂 Bruschetta, ribeye steak, corn, asparagus and grilled watermelon. My absolute favs and now my dinner for tonight. hugs to you!!
Great photos as always, Biz! I think you will always get a like from me with a puppy in the picture! 🙂
We love grilling pineapple and salmon, or flank steak with a chimichurri sauce….so damn good!
And you can’t grill without drinking a Blue Moon….with the perfect orange slice and koozie to keep it chilled!
I have a month off from IVF meds (and hopefully only a short time til I’m finally knocked up!) so I am planning to take advantage with some drinks as long as the weather is warm!
Flank steak. Always flank steak. 🙂
I love to grill Juicy Lucy hamburgers, but grilled pizza is my favorite thing to eat!
