While I took a blog break this past weekend, I realized that my blog birthday was over the weekend.  Seven years!  My last post started a bit of a controversy, but in a good way.  I was overwhelmed with the amount of support you guys gave me by leaving comments, some of you coming out and leaving a comment for the first time.

I literally wrote that post about two minutes before I left for the airport on Thursday.  Just like anything, it can be interpreted any way you read it – when I said I have Jacky to thank for letting me know about the forum on GOMI, I meant that in the most positive way.   Jacky and I go way back – her sister Jody was a senior when I was a freshman in high school and Jacky was a freshman when I was a senior.  We all played field hockey and have kept in touch over the years – a lot more in the last several years thanks to social media.    Here we are a couple years ago having breakfast at Jacky’s house – and Jody on the far right keeps trying to talk me into doing Cross-fit! Open-mouthed smile

I have no problems with someone calling my blog out on a forum like that.  It’s what makes this country great is that anyone can have an opinion about anything at any time and just say it like they feel it.  I don’t mind that this blog reader thinks I’ve gone out of control by saying some of my meals look like poo, or that I posted a picture of chicken feet.   Even Salma Hayek talks about drinking bone broth to keep her youthful complexion.    I would have completely understood if I blogged every day about pounding down a box of wine and eating deep dish pizza every day, or not wanted to get out of bed since my husband died – that would be going out of control.

What I am most happy about is that most people, who are regular readers or just found me through GOMI, basically said I should just keep doing what I am doing, which is what I intended to do all along after reading her comment.  I still plan to live out loud, and if that means I drop an f-bomb here or there, or take pictures of strange animal parts, well, that’s just what’s going to continue to happen.

Another thing that struck me as odd though is that I was put in the “healthy living blogger” category.  Huh.  Yes, I have diabetes and I try to eat well most of the time, but I wouldn’t put myself in that category at all – especially for my age – those healthy living bloggers (well, now reaching their late 20s) started out in their early 20s when they were fresh faced out of college.  I consider my blog a perpetual online diary.  Imagine my future grandkids being able to read about my life almost EVERY SINGLE DAY for the last 7 years – it’s the best gift I could give to them, and hopefully, Hannah and Jacob and Joe and Lizz will tell their children not to swear as much as their grandma!

So thank you for everyone who left a comment – I appreciate it so much!I

I had a wonderful weekend with my parents in law.  Unfortunately, I came down with a cold yesterday and as much as I wanted to do stuff around the house, my body was telling me – sit still!  I must have caught it on the plane ride home.

I’ll have a recap of my weekend tomorrow, but in the meantime, I have nothing but great things to say about Rockford Airport and Allegiant Airlines.

Naples 2015 322

Granted obviously Rockford airport and Punta Gorda are two small airports, but the planes were clean, the staff very polite and the trips were on top both going and coming back.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve flown American or United, only to push off the gate and wait anywhere from 30-45 minutes before we take off.  At both airports we pushed off and within minutes were in the air.  Definitely worth checking out if you live in the Northern Illinois area – they fly to six cities in Florida and to Las Vegas.

I am also taking a break from the carb cycling this week.  I actually don’t have much of an appetite, and we have plenty of food in the house to get us through the week before grocery shopping again – should be some interesting eats!

How was your long weekend?  Do anything fun?  I’d love to hear about it!
