While I took a blog break this past weekend, I realized that my blog birthday was over the weekend. Seven years! My last post started a bit of a controversy, but in a good way. I was overwhelmed with the amount of support you guys gave me by leaving comments, some of you coming out and leaving a comment for the first time.
I literally wrote that post about two minutes before I left for the airport on Thursday. Just like anything, it can be interpreted any way you read it – when I said I have Jacky to thank for letting me know about the forum on GOMI, I meant that in the most positive way. Jacky and I go way back – her sister Jody was a senior when I was a freshman in high school and Jacky was a freshman when I was a senior. We all played field hockey and have kept in touch over the years – a lot more in the last several years thanks to social media. Here we are a couple years ago having breakfast at Jacky’s house – and Jody on the far right keeps trying to talk me into doing Cross-fit!
I have no problems with someone calling my blog out on a forum like that. It’s what makes this country great is that anyone can have an opinion about anything at any time and just say it like they feel it. I don’t mind that this blog reader thinks I’ve gone out of control by saying some of my meals look like poo, or that I posted a picture of chicken feet. Even Salma Hayek talks about drinking bone broth to keep her youthful complexion. I would have completely understood if I blogged every day about pounding down a box of wine and eating deep dish pizza every day, or not wanted to get out of bed since my husband died – that would be going out of control.
What I am most happy about is that most people, who are regular readers or just found me through GOMI, basically said I should just keep doing what I am doing, which is what I intended to do all along after reading her comment. I still plan to live out loud, and if that means I drop an f-bomb here or there, or take pictures of strange animal parts, well, that’s just what’s going to continue to happen.
Another thing that struck me as odd though is that I was put in the “healthy living blogger” category. Huh. Yes, I have diabetes and I try to eat well most of the time, but I wouldn’t put myself in that category at all – especially for my age – those healthy living bloggers (well, now reaching their late 20s) started out in their early 20s when they were fresh faced out of college. I consider my blog a perpetual online diary. Imagine my future grandkids being able to read about my life almost EVERY SINGLE DAY for the last 7 years – it’s the best gift I could give to them, and hopefully, Hannah and Jacob and Joe and Lizz will tell their children not to swear as much as their grandma!
So thank you for everyone who left a comment – I appreciate it so much!I
I had a wonderful weekend with my parents in law. Unfortunately, I came down with a cold yesterday and as much as I wanted to do stuff around the house, my body was telling me – sit still! I must have caught it on the plane ride home.
I’ll have a recap of my weekend tomorrow, but in the meantime, I have nothing but great things to say about Rockford Airport and Allegiant Airlines.
Granted obviously Rockford airport and Punta Gorda are two small airports, but the planes were clean, the staff very polite and the trips were on top both going and coming back. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve flown American or United, only to push off the gate and wait anywhere from 30-45 minutes before we take off. At both airports we pushed off and within minutes were in the air. Definitely worth checking out if you live in the Northern Illinois area – they fly to six cities in Florida and to Las Vegas.
I am also taking a break from the carb cycling this week. I actually don’t have much of an appetite, and we have plenty of food in the house to get us through the week before grocery shopping again – should be some interesting eats!
How was your long weekend? Do anything fun? I’d love to hear about it!
Happy Blog Birthday, Biz! Wishing you many more happy years of blogging. I know you aren’t doing it (just) for us, but I sure do love your blog – it is a wonderful way to start my day! 🙂 I think I’ve been reading since the beginning, because 7 years ago is when I was diagnosed and discovered the healthy living blogs that have helped me so much!
You are too sweet – thanks for following along all this time! 😀 Hugs!
I subscribe to many blogs but yours is the only one that I always read. I feel like I know you personally and you inspire me in so many ways. Just keep doing what you’re doing because we all love you! Congratulations on your anniversary! (This is the first time I’ve been brave enough to comment on any blog.)
Hey Shirley! Thanks for reading and thanks for feeling like we could be friends in real life – that’s what I think about all my blog readers – just friends I haven’t met face to face yet. 😀
Congratulations! My only regret is that I didn’t find your blog right after you started it.
People think that they can say just anything on the internet. They would never say that in someone’s face or in better chosen words. I always say when it comes to internet: if you have nothing nice to say, shut up.
I do think you swear a lot too 🙂 I’m not a Christian, I don’t believe in anything but I just don’t think it’s necessary. But it’s a good thing we are all different and we all do things in our own way or speak how we want. Otherwise the world would be a rather boring place.
Move on from the GOMI stuff and write what you like and how you want to write it.
You and my Mom think the same about my potty mouth – it’s one of my bad habits I am always trying to break! Hugs!
Happy Blog Birthday! Our blogs are just a few months apart in age, so you know they would have played nicely together in school. 😉
Glad you had such a nice visit with your inlaws, and I’m also glad that you didn’t let the GOMI stuff bring you down.
Yep – if our blogs were kids they would be starting second grade! 😀
Nope, not gonna let one comment on a forum bring me down – no worries!
7 years is a long time! I’m just sorry I never read you from the beginning, but I had no clue what a blog was! I totally like writing a blog because I love the fact that one day, maybe my yet to be conceived grandkids, will love reading about grandma. Or not. Either way the writing gives me a way to remain accountable and for me, that is good. Happy Birthday Biz!
So glad we found each other Abbe! Next time I come to Denver we’ll definitely meet up! 😀
Happy blogiversary!
Thanks Lori! Hope some cooler weather comes your way!
Happy Blog Birthday! You just keep doing what you’re doing cos you do it well & that’s why we’re all here with you! 😀 So glad you had a wonderful visit with your inlaws! But sorry to hear about the cold. 🙁
Long weekends give us way too much time to think about the next house project. Lol We just finished a clean up & landscaping project along our back yard fence line. It looks so much nicer now!
This weekend I started giving our bedroom a long hard look & didn’t like what I saw. Lol Talked Hubby into going to Lowe’s & came home with new flooring that we will be installing in the next few weeks. Well everybody knows if you get new flooring you have to paint the ceiling, walls & get new bedding. 😀
It’s the domino effect Sherry – and I totally get it – finish one thing and it just run into the next project! What kind of flooring did you go with? That’s my next step after the painting 😀
Happy blog birthday!! 🙂 Love your blog and your positive attitude and how real you are. Keeping doing it!
LOL, imagine my surprise when I saw that photo…YIKES….I am so glad we were able to meet up that weekend with Jacky at her house.
Congrats on your anniversary. Always good to check in with My Bizzy Kitchen!!!
I thought about that when I posted it – I said “Jacky and Jody are going to be so surprised!” So glad we are in touch again!
Happy Blog Anniversary. I haven’t been here all 7 years but I have been here (quietly) for at least the last 3ish years or so.
Again, keep being you!!
Thanks for popping out and saying hello Mary! And thanks for reading – I appreciate it! 😀
I also thought it was interesting that you were put in the “healthy living blogger” section. But look at it this way:
Those young “healthy living” bloggers – they seem kinda…disordered. I try to say this in a nice way. Many years ago, before I started my own blog in 2006 or 2007 (I don’t remember, I had a small blog before the current one), I read a lot of them. I cannot even remember which ones – KERF, Eat Live Run, Choosing Raw, Oh She Glows, Fitnessista, HEAB, and a few more. Then I found your blog.
I don’t read the others anymore. Part of it is that I have a job, and I had a second kid, and there’s just not enough time to keep up with them all. I mean KERF was posting 3x a day, who had time for that? I also found a lot of disordered restriction going on, which seemed a bit much for people in their 20’s who may have gained 15 pounds in college. I really couldn’t relate. (As a contrast, HEAB is someone I still find much more relateable).
I also seemed to see a trend of calorie cutting, then vegetarian, then vegan…(then paleo, then…). Not to mention the extreme exercising.
So if you look at your blog, you are what I consider “pretty healthy”. You make most foods from scratch. Your diet isn’t in a “box” of paleo, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, whatever. It’s a balance. And at my age (mid-40s) I like to see balance not perfection.
And happy blog birthday.
I agree with the HLB – once they started getting advertising, book deals, etc., I think it all went to their heads a bit – thanks for sticking around and reading mine – I have loved watching your kids growing up and you know Nick’s school picture from two years ago is my favorite picture ever!
Happy blog birthday <3 <3 <3
Thanks Erica!! Hugs!
Woohoo, here is to another 7 years!
Thanks Jacky!!
Happy Blog Birthday! It has been a pleasure. Can’t wait to see the photos of your trip to our “sunshine state.” I think it rained everyday you were here. At least it did here in the northeast part of Florida.
I totally lucked out Kym – it was hot and sunny the whole time and Fred didn’t arrive until the day after I left! Thanks for reading my blog Kym! 😀 We will meet one of these days!
Happy Blog Birthday! I used to browse on GOMI but after a while it felt really uncomfortable to be seeing such negative crap all of the time. I’d rather focus on being positive. I also don’t understand what the big deal about chicken feet is?!
Thanks Lauren! Yeah, I think that’s why I stepped away from it too – and even after I criticized KERF many years ago, I kind of felt bad about it because who the hell am I to judge anyone?!
Guess what about the chicken feet – I stupidly did the bone broth the weekend before I went to Florida, and put it in the downstairs fridge. I planned on freezing it but forgot and had to throw the whole thing out when I got back 😛 At least bones are cheap!
Happy anniversary! I live in Rkfd – glad you like our little airport. Allegiant also goes to the Phoenix-Mesa area, so if you are in the mood for a break from winter and need to check out some southwest recipes, there’s your option! 😀
Thanks Lara! Loved the Rockford airport – it was kind of weird parking in the parking lot and then just walking into the terminal – kind of like I was going to the grocery store! 😀
Oh, good to know about Phoenix!
Congrats on your blog versary of 7 years! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Thanks for reading Susan! 😀
