My co-worker yesterday asked me if I had seen who is the next model to be featured on Sports Illustrated’s annual swim suit cover. I said no, and she said “if this is a plus size model, we are fucked.”
Yep, she’s considered “plus size” because she’s a size 12. Well, she is 6.2” tall and weighs 163 pounds. So she weighs 9 pounds less than I weigh now and is a foot taller than me! How the hell can that picture above be considered plus size? According to a height/weight chart, I am in the obese category – anything over 164 pounds for my height is considered obese. So crazy!
I did a throw back Thursday on Instagram yesterday. I was scrolling through my Instagram posts (um, are you following me? mybizzykitchen!) and when I got to this picture below, it stopped my in my tracks. This is the very last “cigar” picture I have of Tony, and exactly one week before he went to the hospital and a mere four weeks before he died. It just seems so . . . surreal. I wasn’t sure my step-son or DIL had seen it before though.
I am actually going out with Tony’s friends tonight – well, they are my friends too – but it’s Tony’s oldest friend – he was best man in their wedding. We are going to a BBQ place tonight, so that should be fun! It will just be weird going out without Tony, ya know?!
Breakfast was more quiche and half a bagel. With just a tiny bit of hot sauce.
I have been doing my strength training after work because I don’t feel like I am rushing. I ended up doing 2.0 miles at 8% incline at lunch.
I had leftover filling from our enchiladas the night before last, so I ended up having low carb tacos for lunch.
I saw on Pinterest how to pick the perfect avocado. Nothing worse than paying $1 or more for an avocado, then opening it up and it’s all brown. If you take off the “stem” of the avocado, and see green, your avocado will be perfect:
I had carrots on the side dipped in Annie’s light goddess dressing – I could literally do shots of this dressing it’s so good.
I pulled out my strength training chart to see what was on tap for legs, and I looked down and saw SLDL. What the hell is that?!
Thanks to google, SLDL is a straight legged dead lift. I was able to use a 30 pound barbell for that! Then finished off with another 2 miles at 8% incline.
I had spaghetti and meatballs on the menu for dinner last night. Such a super quick dinner – I made my balls with 1/2 a pound of ground sirloin and one link of Italian sausage. Just added some panko bread crumbs, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper and an egg. I just sear the meatballs on all sides, then add crushed tomatoes and season the tomatoes with more Italian seasonings, crushed red pepper and salt, and let the meatballs finish cooking in the sauce. I ended up cooking up a zucchini on the side and added that to the dish. Um, turns out Jacob doesn’t like spaghetti and meatballs, but he cleared his plate because he didn’t want to be rude, and Hannah ate the pasta, maybe one meatball and had hardly any red sauce – oh well, you can’t win them all! I liked it, so that’s all that matters, right?!
I have to be honest, I didn’t feel like going back to the gym after work, so I told myself if after 15 minutes I wasn’t feeling it, I could just come home. Well, you know I stayed and was happy I did – I don’t know why I have to talk myself into working out sometimes. Had I not gone, I wouldn’t have seen this gorgeous sunset.
I ended up going over my 10k step minimum:
So I have a busy weekend! Dinner out tonight (hi Cindy and Mike!), a 50th birthday party tomorrow (hi Maripat!) and lunch and thrifting on Sunday with my Mom and SIL. I’ve gone out more the last two months than I have in the last two years! But I’d stay home forever to have Tony back.
Make it a great day, okay?! Have a great weekend.
it is so so so not plus sized and the cover pic is…worse than that too.
honestly I CANNOT BELIEVE they are still publishing that issues in 2015.
I don’t know if she’s a plus-size but she looks better than all the skinny models you normally see.
Great tip about the avocado, didn’t know that. I usually feel them and hope for the best.
I love the photo of Tony. And I totally understand you would stay home forever to have him back but I’m also glad you go out these days and do fun things. I bet he wants you to do that.
Hope you’ve had a great weekend Biz! Love the avocado tip and I’m with you about the swimsuit model. I mean MAN she is gorgeous…! Why the label plus size? She’s actually smaller than the average american woman. It’s crazy what the warped media can do to someone’s self esteem. It’s pretty sad 🙁
Between angles (so many angles!) and photoshop and also the fact that she’s super-tall, yeah, it’s weird that they call her “plus size” but that’s definitely an industry term and not what we civilians would think of as plus-size. (I’ve seen other pictures of her and while she looks amazing, she doesn’t look quite as flawless as she does in the above photo.) They’re just trying to drum up chatter about the upcoming issue in any case, so I guess it’s working. 🙂
I think it is ridiculous that Sports Illustrated is calling the new model plus size. First, I don’t know that they need to make a big deal even if they actually use a true plus size model and secondly she is not even remotely plus size!!!
People don’t like spaghetti and meatballs?! I could eat some type of pasta everyday – I don’t but….
I’d eat your spaghetti and meatballs any day. Just sayin.
Plus size in the model world is so different than real life. I guess we all need to focus on a healthy body for our own type size etc. I don’t see society changing its idea of the “ideal woman” in my lifetime.
Good avocado tip. I love them but am afraid of buying a bad one. Now I will feel better about picking one.
Yep, just posted about that super fat model on FB today. She weight 30 pounds less than me and is 9 inches taller! Anyone who can look that good in a bikini is NOT plus sized.
I want you to live with me so you can cook for me like this every day. Puhleeze!
Ehh, eff the industry’s beauty standards. I am who I am and that is good enough for me. Of course, I am actively trying to lose weight and I do want to change some things about my appearance, but damn.
Have fun tonight!
Jacob sounds like a keeper to eat to be polite! 😀
Great job on the gym!
Yeah, my old boss has an avocado grove, and he told me that trick. If it’s brown, it’s just like a fungus or something (I can’t remember). Essentially if the stem is ON an avocado, it prevents the fungus from getting into the avo. If the stem falls off easily and it’s green, it’s good and it’s ripe.
If you see brown, then the fungus got in there.
Another tip (I live in Avo country): the darker an avo when it is picked (unripe), the longer it was on the tree and the fatter/ oily/ better tasting it will be. So he can tell which avos from his grove were from “last year” and “this year” and he will occasionally stop by and give me a good one. SO MUCH BETTER.
Plus size model my ass.
The laughable part is SI pretends they’re displaying swimsuits – yeah, right!
(I heard the plus-size gal (sz.14) was in a paid ad inside, not the cover girl.)
What a gorgeous sunset! Hope you have a great weekend! We are having a play group over – ages 9 months to 15 months. Should be fun. 🙂
Society’s idea of “normal” and “plus” sizes are way off! Why can’t we all just accept we are different sizes and it is normal and beautiful? We women can be so catty and tear each other apart on our own without men even dictating what they desire. If you read the comments on some of these articles about women and sizes, you’ll see those people are vicious!
I’m glad Helen put in those links because I was pretty sure that girl in your picture wasn’t plus-sized…the plus-size model is in a swimwear ad in the mag, and she does look plus-sized. Although, damn…she looks good. Either it’s youth, or they airbrushed out her lumpy parts – any case, at least it’s a start in showing more of a normal body.
Sounds like your weekend will be busy (bizzy?)! Hope you have a good time, and also I hope you score some good stuff on your thrifting expedition!
Plus size!? Maybe her boobs…
How I see, you could be the next swim suit cover model. Have a great weekend. You are doing awesome with your training, keep it up!
I am not sure your coworker got the right cover girl. This is the official cover girl and there is no mention of her being plus size (or of the fact that the cover is barely not porn!

The one up there is appearing inside the magazine in her one of her own bikinis or something. And there is another one who is appearing in an ad inside the magazine. She actually looks more curvy but honestly to me looks NORMAL.

But people have to realize when a model is referred to as plus size they are talking actual size, i.e., 10, 12, 14. Most of those women are quite tall therefore their weight is normal for their bodies and they are not plus size at all. Unfortunately in the modeling world, 0, 2, 4 are the usual sizes.
It’s all so disturbing. Best thing I’ve seen in the last two days about this was on Facebook when someone posted the cover girl with the quip, “Today in Extreme Waxing” and someone commented, “Another realistic magazine cover to mess with our heads / our daughters’ heads / our husbands heads”
Amen.
THEIR idea of a plus size model is size four and eats once a week! Gah! Maybe it is because each boobie weighs 20 lbs? Just saying…….
Plus Size my a$$…..maybe her boobs are making her a little more plus sized…..they need the real photo of boobs after having 3 kids and no implants…sag city. Oh, wait I guess they save those photos for the National Geographic magazine never a SI cover!
Stupid!!
Every time I get a Lane Bryant catalog I always wonder how those model can be modeling plus size clothes. They may be a little heavy but in now way would look that “toned” in the night clothes they model. I guess saggy boobs and a saggy gut is not model material. LOL
Glad to see your getting out this weekend. Have a ton of fun. I would have loved to have had your spaghetti and meatballs. Wayne does not like them either so I don’t make them often.
Hey Biz!! Been thinking about you. Glad you are keeping busy. I saw that picture of the model yesterday as well – and thought she looks like a “normal” woman walking around my state does. A little heavier in the middle, but definitely NOT plus size!!
Keep up the hard work working out. Your workouts make me look pitiful for my running three times a week!! Keep at it!! enjoy your blog and your attitude. You rock!!
