Yesterday was a weird work day. My boss had a brief due, which sometimes can mean it’s a high level stress day, or she ends up doing it all by herself. I just never know. I got in early, and hour and 45 minutes early because she had some edits to the brief and wanted those edits done before she got in. Um, the edits? Only took me 15 minutes. So I kept waiting for the rush, but when around 11:30 I noticed she was still writing, I asked “do you mind if I run to the gym?” and she said “No! I need you to stay.” Um, okay. I sent Dave, one of my fitbit challenge buddies a text through fitbit and said “I am not getting a lunch today and I am going out to dinner and a movie tonight with a friend, no way I’ll get my steps in today!”
I ended up eating my breakfast pretty early for me – around 7:30.
At around 1:20, my boss came out and said “I did it all, you can go to the gym.” Gah. But here’s the thing – I normally don’t like to work out that late because now I haven’t eaten in six hours. But I didn’t want to use that as an excuse, so I ate a Kind bar (thanks Jacky!) went to the gym, did 15 minutes of leg work and walked 2.20 miles.
You’re welcome for the boob shot – happy Friday!
So one of the attorneys just got back from maternity leave yesterday and I told her I would bring her lunch. Well, I ended up feeding about half the office yesterday! I used to frown upon rotisserie chickens, but it’s the same price, if not more to buy it raw, and why not let the store do the work for you? I adapted this soup recipe from Ali at Gimme Some Oven. If you don’t follow her blog, you should. Awesome recipes, awesome food photography. This is the recipe I adapted it from. I also added canned hominy, which I love!

That’s fucking it and it’s delicious!
That picture above does not do it justice. I left the cheese out of the recipe and just diced up some Cabot cheese on top with chopped cilantro and some sour cream. I forgot the tortilla chips at home – bummer. That’s a tiny bowl, probably just under a cup of soup because by the time I got back from the gym, it was already close to 2:30!
I met my friend at iPic for dinner and a movie. Since I knew I was going to have a beer, I decided to go low carb with my dish and ordered the beef satay with peanut dipping sauce and asparagus.
The asparagus was amazeballs – but the beef was – eh. Parts of it were cold and I didn’t know a satay was supposed to be cold, and one of the pieces of beef was all fat and I needed to spit it out in a napkin. Klassy. My friend got the burger trio, which she said was good and was split the truffle fries. I prefer crispier fries so I maybe had about 10 fries? Who wants a limp anything?!
My view watching the previews:
It was the first time my friend had ever been to iPic, and now I have spoiled her with the reclining chairs, pillow and blanket. We saw Unbroken. It was good, but parts of the story line were disjointed, and from what I’ve read online, if you read the book, the movie was a disappointment. And there were some parts that were slow in the middle and afterwards we both felt we could have taken a nap! We got out of the movie around 8:30 and we said goodnight. I realized I was probably going to go home and watch stuff off my DVR, so I swung by the gym and watched Bobby Flay Take Down and ended up doing 40 minutes of walking at 5% incline for 2.5 miles – woop! I was still home by 9:45.
So at one point of the day when I thought it would be a stretch to get to 4,000 steps, I did over 18,000! And today is the last day of the work week challenge with a small fit bit group – I was in first place as of last night, but Jenna W is on my heals! I do have to say this challenge definitely made me realize that if there is a will, there is a way if you want to get the steps in.
Alright, off to put my food together and repack my gym bag. If I get in 17,503 steps today, I will have done 90,000 steps from Monday to Friday – woop! Happy Friday – make it a great day and have a great weekend. See you Monday! (follow me on Instagram mybizzykitchen.com to follow me on the weekends!)
Wow you are hardcore Biz, going to the gym after dinner and a movie? I’m impressed because that’s not something I would do. Looks like you had a great night out with your friend.
Well great. I just bought the book the other day. Haven’t started reading it yet, but maybe I won’t until after I see the movie!
I am in AWE of your step count. Like, seriously in awe. B and I went to the zoo here in Omaha yesterday and we did just short of five miles. We have a membership now (a gift from my parents) so we are planning to go at least twice a month on the weekends! There are some good hills in the zoo, too, so it’s more than just a leisurely stroll!
You just keep going and going. I can’t believe all of the steps in one week. I want to get a fit bit but my current phone is not compatible so I am waiting to get a new phone first. I know it sounds like an excuse to me too now that I’ve typed it our. 🙁
Wow, so many steps! I am seriously curious about a fitbit. I kind of want one now!
Limp…..don’t want none of that here!
I love movie theaters that serve drinks and food! So fun. 🙂
And, that soup looks awesomesauce. 🙂
Woohooo!! That’s some kick-ass stepping you’re doing there, Biz. I have to say I am enjoying my Fitbit. I have to get pretty creative at my office job to get in the 10K steps a day….but, I find that little device to be quite the motivator. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago and my metabolism came to a screeching halt. I’m hoping this will help to avoid the excessive weight gain that typically comes from this diagnosis. Have a wonderful weekend!! I’m cooking that soup this weekend!
Nice boobs Vat! HA! Couldn’t resist…..’cause your boob shot made me LOL!
my steps are so low. I’m sitting on my arse all day at the library and bye the time I get home, I’m drained. Great job on the exercise!!
I need that soup in my life. ASAP.
I want to see Unbroken, but I need to finish the book first, I’m a weirdo like that.
18,000 steps?! NICE!!!!
Have a great weekend 🙂
That soup looks amazing! So does the asparagus.
I am currently reading Unbroken. It’s a problem. It is interfering with my sleep because I cannot put it down.
How do you join your Workweek Hustle group?
You really inspire me to try to get my steps in each day. It’s not always easy, but you have demonstrated that where there’s a will, there’s a Biz way!
Dang – you are killing it with steps!!!
Glad you were able to get in so many yesterday and have a fun night out. I really want to try one of those movie theaters but I have a feeling I would get hooked, too!
The gym after the movie? Way to go! And on your step challenge. You are inspiring!
Your step count for the week is AMAZING!! You inspired me last night to walk while I watched TV rather than relax on my big butt. 🙂 Felt good! So, thank you for that. 🙂 Hope you have a good weekend. We might get some snow!
I have never been to ipic! My husband and I find if we ever get a date night we don’t want to go to a movie because with the kids around all the time we never have a chance to talk – ha! Looks like a blast though – and super fancy!
I’m trying a 20 min enchilada soup next week, I’ll keep ya posted! 😉
