Holy crap – I totally forgot to pick a winner of the free entrance fee to a Spartan Race in 2014! I put everyone’s name on a piece of paper, then picked one:
Congrats to Erica of Itzy’s Kitchen! Send me an email at mybizzykitchen@gmail.com and I’ll give you the code to get a free race entry.
Tony picked me up some strawberries at Sam’s Club the other day – they are huge!
I was worried that they might not taste good, but these are delicious. I ended up making zucchini/egg white breakfast tacos. Tomatillos were on sale last weekend so I made some tomatillo salsa. The only bad part about these tacos were that they were really watery – I should have squeezed out more of the moisture out of the zucchini, but these were delicious.
I ended up slicing the strawberries – I can’t believe this is only two strawberries!
I tested my blood sugar right before working out – it was only 145. I ended up eating a tangerine to bring it up a bit. I wanted to run, but thought it would be better if I walked, so I did the treadmill for 40 minutes – 3.8 mph at 9.5 incline.
I was flipping channels when I was working out and stumbled upon the Travel Channel. It was a show about southern BBQ. Lordy lew I loves me some BBQ. This show is a woman from Canada (hi Roz!) who is a competitive BBQ cook and also does a BBQ crawl. Could you imagine getting paid to eat BBQ? She was driving through Alabama, and ended up at a place called Big Bob Gibson BBQ – home of the white BBQ sauce. Wait. Hold up. White BBQ sauce? Why have I never heard of that before?? They used it as a mop sauce for their chicken. Of course, as soon as I got back to the office I had to look it up. I found this recipe on Southern Living – it’s mayonnaise, water, vinegar, pepper, creole mustard, salt, sugar, garlic and horseradish – holy moly I cannot wait to try this the next time we grill a chicken. Have you ever heard of it??
I ended up having soup that I brought home from the restaurant over the weekend – it’s one of my favorites – sounds weird but it’s delicious – tomato basil soup with . . . blue cheese! About every other bite I’d get the tang of the blue cheese. I made a grilled cheese sammie on the panini maker on the side.
Tony called me in the afternoon and wanted to know what I had planned for dinner. I told him taco salads and when I didn’t get much of a response after that I asked him what he wanted. We had some brats in the fridge and he wanted to know if we could grill those up. Yup! I had baked a couple potatoes over the weekend, and Tony asked for twice baked potatoes. Done and done.
That would be sauerkraut and green peppers on mine. Afterwards I thought it needed to get kicked up a notch, so I added pickled jalapenos. It was 40 degrees out when I grilled – this meal just tasted like summer! We had a winter storm warning last night, but happily, we only got two of the 8 inches predicted. Isn’t it crazy to be happy about only getting two inches of snow in the nearly middle of March??!!
Time to get my shit together and scrape off the car. Make it a great day!
I keep my fingers crossed Spring will come your way soon! Enough with this snow winter.
Strawberries can be bought here all year round these days. But I only buy them in Summer because it’s a Summer fruit (at least here it is). I eat as much as possible according to the seasons (my beebox helps with that). It’s cheaper and better for the environment. Besides nothing beats the first strawberries or white asparagus of the season.
You know, I’ve never had white asparagus before – I assume it tastes just like regular asparagus??
Daaang those strawberries are freaks of nature. Delicious freaks. I wish I had some delicious freaks in my kitchen!!
giant strawberries creep me out, lol
yeah! Erica!!! Love her and so happy she was your winner!! those are some crazy looking strawberries! Love me some good bbq too! Can’t wait to see you make that sauce and slather it on some chicken…of course, we have to KILL old man winter first! haha
Yep, you and I are in the same boat – but we will have temps close to 50 tomorrow – bring it on!
Those strawberries, wow! I’m shocked you could find such big ones this time of year. Now, I want.
It’s the winter that just won’t quit. It’s expected to start snowing sometime tonight. I don’t think we are getting much thankfully.
Tomato soup is one of my favorite things. Yours looks delicious and I can just imagine how amazing it is with blue cheese. Your blog makes me miss cheese!
Holy strawberries! Makes me miss summer.
Uh major jealous over your lack of snow! We were originally supposed to get 1-2″, we got 10″ today.
So excited that your baby is almost here!
Congrats to the winner!!! and omg that strawberry – WOW! My boys would go crazy as they looooove strawberries! 😉
I’ve heard of the Alabama white BBQ sauce, but haven’t tried it. I’ll be there next month on vacation, so I’ll put it on my food list ! I have to laugh at your ‘walk’ on the treadmill – for me that would mean running, pretty fast, and uphill! Not pretty. Bravo for you – you’re in great shape 🙂 Glad you didn’t get dumped with snow. Spring is on the way – yahoo!
Lucky! Let me know if you try it!
There’s a Scottish Pub in Mpls that has tomato soup with blue cheese in it. I love it!
Oh. My. Goodness. White BBQ sauce. It is amazing!!! Yep, you’re talking my part of Alabama now! I’m about 45 minutes from the restaurant…Carol B and I could be neighbors & not know it! lol I also like the North Carolina style bbq sauce so I’ll be trying out your recipe for that also. 🙂
We have a small strawberry farm (you pick your own) here in town but I’ve never seen strawberries that big!! lol
Happy Hump Day! 😀
OMG Sherry, I would go to that place once a week if I lived that close!
Big Bob Gibson’s is about 30 minutes from me and yes the white sauce is fantastic!!
Okay – road trip to your house!! Yum!
I love strawberries but they aren’t in season here yet. The ones I’ve had recently tasted like nothing! 🙁
Mmm now I’m craving some barbecue! haha I’ve had white bbq sauce a few times down in Louisiana, it was yummy, but I prefer regular. We finally grilled up some chicken this last weekend, but now I want a brat…definitely a favorite of mine!
I feel like I haven’t commented in forever, but I’ve been reading daily still!
I guess it’s the vinegar that is speaking to me in that white BBQ sauce – I’ll let you know when I make it. 😀 Thanks for stopping by each day Sam! 😀
My favorite BBQ sauce is Eastern North Carolina vinegar style. No tomato sauce in it at all, just lots of red pepper flakes. YUM.
I’m surprised you even want to try the white sauce, I thought you hated mayonnaise?
Helen, you’d love my North Carolina sauce!

My grandfather was from Eastern North Carolina – his pulled pork was the best I ever tasted.
Congrats Erica! And holy strawberries, Batman!! Those things are on steroids!
And the every strawberry in that container was that big!
I’ve heard of white barbecue sauce (only because I saw it on an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives) but I’ve never had it – sad since I actually spent a year in Alabama!!
Glad you got to use the grill – spring is on it’s way – hopefully you have seen the last of the snow for the year!!!
I hope so Kim – although some people hope we get more to break the record – not me!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Omgosh! I’m so excited! Wahoooo. Thank you thank you. If you love BBQ- you must come visit me! They actually had a “que” off this weekend to determine which local restaurant has the best bbq. Have a good one!
Congrats E! And if I ever make it to your neck of the woods, you know we will meet up for some QUE!
Wellllllll if you’re gonna start talking BBQ I have to chime in and plug MEMPHIS (my hometown) and lemme tell you we do BBQ! If you ever get to come thru Memphis be sure to try The Barbecue Shop on Madison or Central BBQ. Everyone’s got their favs around here and it can start some serioussssss stuff/discussion/arguments. hahaaa Rendezvous is where the tourists like to go for the dry ribs. Some people swear by Corky’s. Enough about all of that though – I had never heard of white BBQ sauce either. interesting! =)
I would LOVE Memphis BBQ – well, I basically love any and all types of BBQ – but seriously soon I am going to have to make beef brisket at home – Tony and I have been craving it for a while now.
I forgot to ask. Any idea what Creole mustard is? I saw it in the link you posted.
Kym, Zataran’s makes a creole mustard – I must buy some stat!

Having a little Brat with your mustard? The soup actually sounds pretty tasty. I think you would make a good TV food host so it would be great for you and Tony to get paid to travel and eat. Glad your weather was not as predicted. I still can’t imagine how you ever dug your grill out from under all that snow.
OMG, I loves me some mustard! It’s probably my second favorite condiment after hot sauce. 😀
Tomorrow we’ll have temps in near 50 – hopefully it will melt the remaining dirty snow.
White BBQ sounds interesting. I’ll have to look it up. I Love a GOOD tomato soup. Your soup sounds delish. I’ve actually been making my own from the recipe you posted about a month ago just leaving out the meatballs.
Yep, good tomato soup is amazeballs (just next time add the meatballs!) 😀
oh how I long for my kitchen and grill. Alas, I got food poisoning instead :/ BUT they started digging our basement yesterday so I can begin the count down to move in.
🙂 hope you are well, friend!
So are you guys building a house?? I guess I didn’t know that! Once the weather gets better – we’ll have to figure out when to meet up!
