I am exactly the same weight as I was last week. And while I am a tad disappointed, I have to stop and check myself:
- I’ve eaten under 1600 calories all week
- I’ve worked out a minimum of 60 minutes every day except for the rest day
- I’ve had 80-100 ounces of water a day
- The big one – no alcohol
But, I know I am building muscle, so I have to keep that in mind. And you know what the difference between a winner and a loser is? Winners never quit, and neither am I.
Since I still had pancake batter leftover from Martha Stewart’s pancakes, I made apple pancakes yesterday – this time topped with chopped ham and apple. Believe it or not, this whole plate of food is 352 calories! It was so filling, I only ate 3/4 of it. Who am I to stop eating because I am full?!
Yesterday’s weather was gorgeous – 75 degrees and sunny. Let’s just say with our cooler temps of late, the pool was a tad chilly! I swam for 30 minutes and then sunned for 10 minutes before heading back to the office – the perfect lunch break.
For lunch yesterday – batch number 40 of Suzie’s lasagna soup! Suzie, I think you should make me an award for the blogger to make a recipe of yours the most times. Let me know if you need my address.
I did switch it up just a bit. Normally I add baby spinach to it, but I didn’t have any, so I shredded two zucchini and cup up two carrots and sauteed those with the Italian sausage. Hands down this is my favorite soup. And I take Suzie’s advice and only add the noodles when heating up the soup, otherwise the noodles soak up all the liquid if you don’t eat it the same day you make it.
It was a grill night – grilled chicken thighs, corn on the cob and cole slaw. Since the chicken thighs take a while to cook, Tony and I sat outside – him with a Rolling Rock Light (I may have one of those tonight!) and me with lemonade.
I don’t know why I bought this snaggle tooth corn on the cob, but it tasted good!
We didn’t eat until 7:15, so we started watching the movie Ted. Still so funny. We got an hour in and then paused it so I could do Day 54 – (I think I added a day on my Instagram pics!) of insanity. I am switching up the schedule a bit this week because Friday is usually my rest day. But Sunday I am going to a street fest in Chicago with my Mom and Hannah – Hannah got the day off! So Sunday will be my Insanity rest day and I am bringing my DVD to work and doing the 40 minutes of Core Cardio and Balance at the gym at lunch. I still want to have my Friday night open for Tony.
I just have to look at that picture above to see that Insanity and my hard work is paying off, even if it hasn’t shown up on the scale yet.
Quitters Never Win and Winners Never Quit!”
Stats for the Day:
- 1576 calories, 71 fat, 158 carbs, 17 fiber and 80 protein
- 40% of calories from carbs, 41% from fat and 19% from protein
- 30 minute swim
- 45 minutes Day 54 Insanity
Alright, off to get my sweat on before work – make it a great day!
Check out this post on plateaus: I just stumbled upon her blog earlier this week – very well written and great advice!
Did you measure your hips, waist, biceps etc before starting? I think that is also a great indicator of body changes.
Ugh, we are in the same boat. You are building muscle and burning fat! That doesn’t always reflect on the scale. I told MAK last night that I feel like I’m gaining muscle, but I’m not creating fat loss. It’s frustrating, but if we keep on keepin’ on, the scale will catch up eventually. 🙂
I think it’s great how you plan your workouts. I have to do the same thing even if it means getting up at the butt crack of dawn or running 20 miles while visiting a friend. I’m always fascinated by how my clothing fits differently when I really amp up the weight training even if the number on the scale doesn’t change. You are doing awesome with Insanity. Enjoy your weekend! Sounds like fun plans.
I’m not much of a scale person- for that reason alone! If it doesn’t move, I get frustrated and all ughhhhh about it. For me, dropping weight means strength training and a little cardio – which means all the cardio I attempt is just for “fun”….crazy lady!
You’re doing great Biz! I think there is always a plateau with Insanity and taking in the muscle built is a great mentality! I know that made a huge difference for me when the numbers stopped moving around! I got some serious biceps and goodness gracious I had a waist instead of being build like a rectangle! hahaha! Love you lady!!!
Thanks Mel!! Hope you have a great weekend!
Looking great, Biz! You’re a machine!!! (That’s good.)
All I know is that you are the most beautiful woman I know, and you look awesome. F The scale!
Best comment ever!!! I love you!!
For sure one week does not a plateau make, but here is a great post by a lovely lady addressing that issue when (and you will) get there. Enjoy. http://affectionforfitness.blogspot.com/
I love Marion’s blog – thanks for the reminder link though Caron!
The scale isn’t everything, don’t forget that. You look amazing. A definite difference. My advice is to recalculate the number of calories you should be eating w/ that amount of exercise. I can’t believe you should be eating only 1600 with 60 mins of exercise; seems too low. Also, sodium can make the scale read higher, I haven’t seen you count your sodium intake in forever. Remember, the # on the scale is not who you are, it’s just a number. Keep up your good work!! Great inspiration I must say.
Thanks Maura – my only dilemma of eating more is taking more insulin – I already take four shots a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, bed) so I am tossing about adding in some low carbs snacks in between? I may need to bring the sodium numbers back into play too – I replaced that category with cholesterol. 😀
GRR! Stupid numbers on the scale. You are doing EVERYTHING right Vat, and you are toning, so keep at it! You look great in the pics. You know how much I love mis shapen vegetables, fruits and eggs, so I like the snaggletooth corn. (I think I need a support group for that!)
Have a great Friday!!
Thanks Roz – I actually thought of you when I saw it, I thought “Roz would love this corn on the cob!” Yep, we both need a support group!
You are looking really fit and thin!
Thanks Jan! 😀
While the scale didn’t move it looks like you did everything right. Eating well, working out, making good decisions. Sometimes my scale seems to stick for a few weeks and then Boom a few pounds suddenly fall off.
I remember when I lost weight in 1999 – I had SIX weeks of the same weight, but in total I lost 70 pounds in a year – I’ll have to remember to look at the “big picture.” Enjoy your weekend!
I’m not surprised the scale isn’t moving because, as you said, you’re building muscle. I can see a difference in you too. You’re totally looking great! Just keep doing what your doing! If I knew how to make an award Biz, you would totally be getting one…lol!!! That is so awesome you’ve made it so much 🙂 The snaggle tooth corn on the cob hit my funny bone, I was so laughing!!
Okay, I’ll make one for you and just hang it up on my fridge – I’ll post it next week! 😀
Lmao!!! You are so crazy, why I love you all the more!!
Now is when you have to put your head down and dig in…it’s hard to not see a scale “reward” but you certainly are putting in the work – this is when a lot of people give up but I know you won’t!
Have a great weekend!
Actually Shelley you are are a reminder to me to not give up – I remember how the scale was frustrating to you but you were wearing smaller clothes! Enjoy your short 2 miler tomorrow!
I’m sorry about the scale not moving, that can be frustrating but it sounds like you are doing EVERYTHING right! Ok and I totally laughed out loud and snaggle tooth corn, love it!
I will pine over your Green Egg Courtney – should be awesome weather this weekend for grilling!
You are doing awesome and even if the scale isn’t showing it, your body and face are showing it!!
Thanks Marcia – but congrats to you – down 6.4 in two weeks – amazeballs!!
Sorry about the scale, but it sounds like you’re doing everything you need to be doing! I don’t know what kind of scale you have, but ours is a Tanita, and it gives you your weight, body fat %, hydration level, and a few other things. I find it incredibly helpful to get the whole picture if my weight is up–I can see that I’ve built muscle or maybe I’m retaining water. It gives you a number for those things. Just a thought…something like that might be helpful for you!
Thanks Catherine – enjoy your weekend!
I hate it when the scale doesn’t move. And you are right. You must be building a ton of muscle which means soon you will see a big drop because muscle burns more calories than fat. You are awesome.
Thanks Abbe – your tres leches cake? Looks insulin worthy!
Hey Biz – One thing that works to get me off a plateau is cutting carbs. Now, I have absolutely zero desire to go paleo, but keeping carbs to under 100-75g a day (focusing on stuff like veggies, lean protein and some dairy like greek yogurt) always helps me get back on track.
I may ditch the carbs at dinner – my diabetes doctor and RN don’t want me to go less than 125 grams a day though, I’ll try to get closer to that number next week. 😀
I’m going to chime in here and agree with everyone else. Don’t be totally basing everything off the number on the scale, it’s just a number. If you’re feeling great and your clothes fit (or are getting too big!) the number on the scale doesn’t matter. You are most definitely building more muscle from all your working out.
And good job with laying off the alcohol, it’s an easy way to suck down a lot of calories without realizing it. And if you drink enough, you’ll make other “allowances”, like extra food that you don’t really need. So be mindful about what you eat and drink and things will definitely change for you!
Thanks Jessica – and thanks for that link to this blog – she looks familiar to me, like she was on Hell’s Kitchen or something?

Just from your pictures, I can tell a big difference – your arms are looking incredible. The scale isn’t the only way to gauge your progress – glad you aren’t giving up!!!
Thanks Kim – maybe one day I’ll do one of your crazy ass workouts?! 😀 Enjoy the final days of your vacation and hope your Pappa is doing okay.
Biz, with all that insanity work outs you have been doing, it isn’t surprising scale is not moving. Did you start off by taking measurements? I would bet any money that the measurements will show big changes! Gotta make Suzies soup…but I think I’m going to wait until fall time gets here. Not a summer soup person. 🙂
Yep, I’ve taken my measurements at the beginning – I will take the final measurements next Saturday after the 60 days – we’ll see! And yes, the lasagna soup will be a hit in your house I am sure!
The scale didn’t move for me this week either. Let’s hit it hard next week!!
And your shoulders are looking GOOOOOD!!
Thanks Heatha – I might have to do a handstand soon!
That darn scale! Who knows why it doesn’t move – water, muscle, hormones, insulin, it’s just a lazy ass scale and doesn’t want to move, – who knows?? What you do know is that you’re working hard, doing your best, feeling great, looking even greater…who needs that stupid flippin’ scale number to tell you you’re a winner…you are and I know it, your friends & family know it, Tony knows it and most of all – YOU know it! Have a lovely day and enjoy your Tony time tonight 😉
I am going to go with “lazy ass scale.” Thanks Lynne! 😀
GAH! totally feel ya Biz……B is down and I am flat. 🙁 heres to more sweat!
Yep, men can just stop drinking pop and lose a shit ton of weight – what gives? But tell B I am happy for him! 😀
It is frustrating when we’re doing our best and the scale seems to be stuck. I’m in the same situation this week, and that can be a bit dangerous to my plan. So far I’m hanging in there. DietBet is looming on the horizon as we get closer to the session’s end. We can do it!
Thanks – we can do it – let’s kick ass the next two weeks!
Yep, don’t get discouraged, you’re doing great! Do you weigh once a week or more often? I have an addiction to my scale, which I’m trying to break, but I weigh 2 lbs more today than I did yesterday! Hopefully it will go back down tomorrow…so don’t worry with the numbers (I’m really telling this to myself, lol) b/c they fluctuate frequently (at least mine do.)
Thanks Kim!! Nope, I only weigh in once a week – I am going to keep on keeping on! 😀
