This is a sad year people. An email went out a couple days ago that because of lack of interest, no one was dressing up for Halloween this year. WTF?! I, of course, immediately sent an email and said that I was dressing up! Two other people I know are going to dress up, but it isn’t the same if everyone doesn’t do it, you know?
I still plan on taking lots of pictures so you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see what I dress up as this year!
So we are in the home stretch of my 170 mile challenge! When Helen left a comment on yesterday’s post, it never dawned on me that because of the hurricane Sandy, the New York Marathon might be cancelled or post-poned. I couldn’t imagine preparing for months for an event and then have it cancelled. My fingers are crossed for you Jacky!
So today was my 2-a day! I was hoping to divide my bike ride evenly between 8 miles before work and 8 miles during lunch. No such luck – the traffic sucked ass, and I only got just over 5 miles in before I had to head to work.
An unusual Biz breakfast is ahead – Carnation Instant Breakfast made with soy milk!
I was actually quite surprised that this held me through my lunch time workout – 12.3 miles baby!
17.12 miles done and done. Now I have 50 miles to go before Friday – the race is still on!
Lunch was leftover chicken tortilla soup, still good, I think it gets better the longer it sits, with some tostada nachos on the side.
I can’t be the only one that watches food network while they work out, am I? Although the time that I usually go is either Sandra Lee, Melissa D’arabian, or Anne Burrell. Sandra Lee kinda gets on my nerves, although I do like her money saving meals. Melissa is okay to watch, although she’s sometimes almost TOO perky? And Anne just thinks she’s all that and a bag of chips. And I can’t stand her hair.
Well the other day Melissa had a recipe for a three cheese Philly cheesesteak that looked really good. I chose to make a chicken version though since chicken cutlets were on sale last weekend. I liked the sandwich, but think its needs more seasoning. Tony liked it though! We both only ate half of sammies too – they were big! You can find Melissa’s version here.
So this morning is going to be a race. I have to pack up my costume, bring all my pot luck food, get to the gym and hopefully (yikes!) bike 16 miles before work, and then relax once I get to the office at 8:45.
And flashback – Hannah’s first Halloween costume!
Hannah was 7 months old – only 3 months later and she was walking no problem! Wow, does time fly?
Question of the Day: What was your favorite costume you ever wore? I have to say I was a hobo for three years straight. My mom put Vaseline on my chin and lip and put coffee grounds on it so it looked like I had stubble. It made it difficult to eat candy, but I loved how it looked!
Have a spooktacular day!
Biz-I made that sandwich and used chicken also (no beef in the house) and I must say it was delicious. I didn’t use as much cheese, since I ran out, and it made 3 good sized sammies. Good recipe!
Hannah’s first Halloween? SoDANG cute! I die..
Happy Halloween! I was a big fan of my costume this year…I was a deviled egg (wore cream colored shirt and pants with a yellow egg yolk glued to my shirt, plus devil horns, devil tail, and pitchfork). Fun!
happy halloween! my mom always made really elaborate costumes for me and my sisters. some of my favorites were genie, Rainbow Brite, Pippi Longstocking, and the Little Mermaid. i rocked that red wig like no other elementary school kid!!
I was telling my friends at work that you were a hobo, more times than not, and I was always a princess! Hope your party is fun at work!
What a bummer that not everyone is dressing up! I am glad you still are. I just got a new job at a hotel so no dressing up for me this year like in years past. 🙁 But I do have on orange and black and ghost earrings!
Not dressing up? I can assure you that isn’t the case around my home. I am donning my costume for the third time tonight!! I have to admit some years I am lazy and bah humbug, but not this year. When I am excited about a costume it’s much more fun.
Sandra Lee annoys the heck out of me between her speech mannerisms, boob shots and booze! LOL. I can’t believe she is dating our state governor, either.
Happy Halloween!
I’m bummed about Halloween this year. One the weather is really sucky and two I’m waiting on a call to see if I have to go in for another blood transfusion…ugh! I said I could be a human pincushion by now!! Can’t wait to see what you dressed up as. Great job on the bike miles…woot! I can’t stand Anne’s hair either and her choice of clothes sometimes makes me wonder where the hell she shops. Love Hannah’s first costume. My favorite was when I was a lion…funny, that’s also my favorite costume of my son’s now that I think about it 🙂
“she thinks she’s all that and a bag of chips” OMG…new favorite expression. So funny. Happy Halloween Vat. Can’t wait to see what your costume is!!!!!!
Uh, I watch the Food Network. I’m an “Ina and Giada” sort of person. Exercise?
I’m dressing up as Julia Child–a cookbook in one hand and a glass of wine in the other!!
Boo!
Best,
Bonnie
I read something about the marathon still happening as scheduled, but who knows, it is such a mess right now.
My favorite costume was Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard, I wore it until it didn’t fit me anymore, I think like 4 years straight.
Last I heard, the official announcement is that the marathon is still on.
I only dress up for Halloween if there is a party to go to. However, I’m thinking about putting on my wedding dress and wearing it around just for fun. Double the lifetime use of it! 😀
I have to admit when I volunteered at a bowling/pizza party I was so happy to see people dressed up for Halloween. And yes I dressed up too! Unfortunately I forgot my camera 🙁
My favourite Halloween costume was the year I dressed up as my husband I received so many compliments on it.
That is so funny you dressed like your husband!! Love it!
My mom is really crafty, so I had some pretty good costumes growing up. My favorite, though, was the Queen of Hearts, because I got to wear a cape with candy hearts glued to it and carry a wand 😀
My favorite Halloween costume was one my mom made. She made Raggedy Ann and Andy costumes, wigs and all, and I got to be Reggedy Ann and my girlfriend was Raggedy Andy. I loved it! (I’m thinking my gf, not so much) Anyway, it’s my grandson’s first Halloween (3 mos.) and his mom got him a monkey costume. Too cute!
My favorite costume was when I was a princess (this is back before Disney ruined princesses) – I wore my mom’s wedding dress. It was a knee-length dress (on her) so it was perfect for a floor-length on me. She took it in and I had a blast…ended up playing dress up in it so much that I wore it out eventually!
Awesome job on the 170 mile challenge, never got a minute to comment yesterday. Still hoping to do NY, it is on at this point, I can get there, just a matter of a place to stay. we shall see. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you dress up as this year.
FINGERS CROSSED JACKY! 😀
My son is dressing up as Woody from Toy Story this year. Love that picture of Hannah and can’t wait to see what you are dressing up as this year!
Sandra Lee drives me NUTS! I can’t watch her…even for a minute :). Great lunch- winner winner. Hannah! SO adorable. Josh and I dressed up as a double dare team- my favorite costume ever!
Thanks for agreeing with me Erica! Hope you post pictures of baby K in her costume! 😀
I just love Halloween! The pumpkins, ghosts, candy (ok, mostly the candy). Ironically, I don’t like anything scary – strange. My favorite costume was a ‘bag of trash’ – so easy!
In college I saw a guy that was in a large brown garbage bag stuffed with newspapers. He just sat on the curb with his beer. I finally asked what he was and he said “a pile of shit!”
My favorite childhood costume was a princess dress that my Mom handmade. I loved it so much, I wore it for a couple of years actually–until I couldn’t squeeze into it anymore. Ahhh . . . pretending to be a princess was so much fun! 🙂
At least its sunny today Michelle, even if a bit chilly. We only get about 4 trick or treaters – so sad. 🙁
About the NY marathon: lots of Dutch people don’t even know if they will be able to get to the US due to cancelled flights. I don’t think they cancel the marathon (too much money involved) but I do think there will be a lot of people from abroad who won’t make it in time.
I never even thought about people from other countries trying to get to the marathon – so crazy! Fran, I still can’t access your blog. 🙁
We don’t celebrate Halloween here so no dressing up for me either.
Woohoo on the miles yesterday, well done Biz!
I think the thing with Halloween is that it’s not really neutral – people either love it and jump in with both feet or they don’t really care for it. I’m in the latter group. Once Little Helen was done with it, so was I. In fact I find it completely ODD that people consider this a holiday. Nope, to me a holiday is a day I get off work!
I know that the NYRR are working hard to figure out if they can still hold the marathon. It’s really so sad because there’s not a lot of time. I almost wish they would just postpone it a week – I know that messes people’s travel plans and stuff but if they’d do it now most folks could adjust. Or they could offer deferment to next year’s event – and not make those folks pay the fees again.
