It was a chilly morning yesterday – 43 degrees! I was rooting around trying to figure out what to make for breakfast when I decided on oatmeal. I don’t often have a jones for oats because you know I try to involve cheese in every meal, but it sounded good. I sauteed up one whole apple, 1/4 cup dried cranberries and cooked my 1/2 cup of oats and mixed it all together when I got to work. A sprinkle of 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds was a nice salty kick to an otherwise sweet breakfast. Breakfast came in at 7 points.
While it was on the chilly side for my lunch run, I had a mission. You see, I am a garage sale whore. If I had a bumper sticker it would say “I brake for garage sales!” I saw the sign when I was driving into work, and knew the subdivision was about a 10 minute run away, and then I would see how far it was from there.
You’ll know why I was interested in hitting up this particular garage sale – um, take a look at what the houses look like in this subdivision!
My plan was to run to the garage sale in about 15 minutes, look around for 15 minutes, then run back to my office. I kept following the pink signs!
The only problem? The pink signs kept going. . . and going . . .and going. Until the last sign I saw still had an arrow pointing ahead and said “upper pond.” I looked in the distance and faintly saw a pond and thought there was no way in hell I could keep going to find it – so I had to turn around and head back. I had no idea how far I had gone! I stopped my watch at 46:02 and figured I would use Map My Ride to see how far I actually ran. I was pleasantly surprised that I ran 4.25 miles! Not too shabby. I guess I am like a rabbit with a carrot – if you stick a “sale” sign up I’ll run for it!
Lunch was the last of my spicy tomato soup with balls – again with baby spinach mixed in. This bowl is 8 WW points.
Last night was taco night! I know I have a ton of blog readers who could have Mexican every day and never get sick of it. I had two corn tostadas, 3 ounces of taco meat, mini peppers and lettuce and had 1/2 a cup yellow saffron rice on the side – dinner comes in at 12 points.
I realized that Sunday is April 1, not Saturday so I plan on revealing my Operation Badass on Sunday. If I am technically able, I may be posting a video blog post on Sunday, but I am not sure I have the capability. š
Don’t forget to enter your BSI – Pasta entry! You have until Sunday, April 1 to enter. Just leave a comment on this post, or email me at mybizzykitchen@gmail.com.
Any other garage sale fans like me?
Make it a great day!
Nice run Biz! I agree that it’s a shame you didn’t make it to the garage sale. I would be even more curious to see what the house looks like. The homes along the main road in my town host a massive yard sale every year. I wish I lived along there because I have a basement full of things I need to sell.
I could eat Mexican food every darn day! I was lucky enough to live in Mexico twice during college and the food was incredible.
Great job on the workout!! Im still jealous of the tomato soup! And you know im in for mexican every day
I like garage sales, but prefer thrift stores. Sad you couldn’t make it all the way to the sale, but good job on the 4.25 miles.
Have a super weekend!
I love garage saling! If the sale’s still going on this weekend, it may be worth the drive to see what they have – you never know what you’d find in a neighborhood like that!
If the garage sale is still going on this weekend – it may be worth the drive to check it out! I loooove garage saling, you never know what you’re going to find!
Just had tacos for lunch a little while ago. I like garage sales too, especially at places like you have pictured. There’s a really nice subdivision a few miles from my house that have a bunch of sales Memorial weekend. I took May 25th off work, so I could be there the first day š
You inspire me with your running! And we both know I’m always inspired with your food pics and recipes!
I’m one of those people. I could eat mexican for every meal every day. It’s so amazingly delicious!
I am dying of laughter over here at your garage sale “carrot” – way to get a nice long run in! Although it’s too bad you never ended up at the sale…
I love a run where it feels so natural I’m not noticing the distance! I think I like the idea of garage sales more than I actually do like them. Around here people get up at the crack to haunt them and I’m not willing to do that so by the time I get to the sale it’s all picked over.
Wow…I don’t usually like oatmeal, but I’ll have what you’re having please! Love all the goodies in it!
LOL…you’re so funny. Now you just need to have a personalized shirt made with your new saying and enter a race! Just keep imagining the word sale with an arrow towards the finish line! š
I have gotten stuck with looking for a garage sale like that before. Follow a sign over and over and end up at the top of a BIG hill.
I like your oatmeal – I had almost the exact same thing this morning. In fact, I just got back from vacay and used your “saute fruit” trick on my trip on my pancakes. (Blogged about it too!)
That soup looks delicious.
Thanks for the shout out Marcia! š
I am also a garage sale junkie, you never know what you’re going to find!
I could eat Mexican every single day of my life and never get sick of it, in fact I had Mexican for breakfast today š
You should try making savory oatmeal – then you could put cheese in it! I love garage sales, but recently I found a new thrift store near where I live so I’ve been much more into thrifting!
You would be proud of me. In an attempt to tone up, de-stress and have more flexibility I have started doing yoga. I was amazed how many programs we have on our cable listings [I just typed in “yoga” and it showed me a huge list.] It seems to be a perfect workout for me now as I am trying to get my strength back – and I don’t think it burns too many calories for which I am insanely happy. š
I love garage sales too – and the people running them love me b/c I refuse to haggle. If they want xx dollars then I am paying xx dollars. If I think their price is too high I either keep walking or have one of the kids haggle for me. Wallene especially likes this. š
Keep posting the mexican food pics’. I miss it so, so much – but can live vicariously through your descriptions and pics’ all d y long!
NICE run. I hope you are as proud of you as we are. Keep it up my friend. You’re doing it.
That totally reminded me that I used to give Hannah and dollar bill when she was little – I would hand her a book they wanted five dollars for and she would walk up to the seller and say “Is this enough?” It almost always worked!
I love good garage sales also. I’ve been known to scout out a good one, leave early for work tostop in and get the good deals, then head back after work if it’s really good. I have a “ritzy” subdivision like the one in the picture that does a sale every year. I try not to miss.
I’m with ya – could eat Mexican every night and I love garage sales!
Whatever it takes to get ya running. š Have a great Friday!
YES for taco night! And that breakfast- it looks delicious!!
Isn’t it great when you run for miles and don’t even realize it? Hooray for distractions and motivation (in whatever form!).
It’s cold here this morning too- and I’m heading to Boston tomorrow. It’s supposed to snow and rain there tomorrow- barf!
I love garage sales and I love how early they are starting this year with the awesome weather.
I am one who could totally eat tacos 7 days a week. I really don’t think I’d ever get sick of them. It would make for a more boring blog though. š
