I have to make an apology. Apparently when I’ve been updating my categories to put my recipes on my side bar, every time I hit update, it sends subscribers an email as if the post is new. Sadly some of you have been getting 30 posts in your readers for posts that are a couple years old! Not sure how to fix it, so until I figure it out, I won’t be updating my categories any more. Sorry about that!
Thanks to Julia, Caron and Ali for emailing me and letting me know. š
One of my co-workers is doing Cross-Fit. If you don’t know what that is, just check out this video. My blog friend Robin Sue also does Cross-fit, she is so toned!
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzD9BkXGJ1M]
When I did my strength training on Wednesday night, one of the exercises I had to do was an incline bench press. I typically only use the machines, because it feels safer to me actually. So I walk over to this (sorry there is a weird dude in the picture and its blurry!)
I had to do two sets – and I lifted the bar to see how heavy it was without any weights. Um, it was heavy! I couldn’t even add any additional weights. I do my two sets of 15 and the last few reps I didn’t think I could get through, but I did. š Then yesterday at work I sent this picture to my cross-fit co-worker and she said “those bars are 45 pounds without weights!” No wonder it was so hard – here I thought I was being a wuss not being able to add weights to the bar! That also explains why I was sore yesterday too – I had to do lateral raises and I could only do 10 pounds and it was a struggle. But, you gotta start somewhere, right?
I woke up late yesterday so I have another installment of “throw shit in a bag.” I still had some taco meat from my taco salad, so I made a taco egg white spinach dish in the microwave. 1/4 cup taco meat, 1/2 cup egg beaters, baby spinach (4 pts) – put in a bowl and nuked for 2 minutes. I put some salsa on top, and had another slice of Tony’s corn bread (6 points). 10 points total and really filling!
In an attempt not to have to eat before working out yesterday, I skipped my breakfast insulin all together. When I left for my run, it was 241 – nice! I ended up doing a 1 minute walk, 3 minute jog, then 1 minute sprint for 3 miles – finished in 35:10! I tried to go faster with each sprint. It was fricken cold though – about 27 degrees? When I got back to my desk my blood sugar was a perfect 107. š
Does your grocery store sell buffalo turkey in the deli?
If so, run and get some – its delicious! My plate: 1/2 a pita (2), 2 ounces of buffalo turkey (2), 1 slice of baby swiss (1) baby spinach, cucumbers and apples (0) and 1/2 an ounce of pretzels (1). Love it when you get plates like this for only 6 points!
I had burgers on the menu. When I got home and started to put stuff together, I could not find the ground beef – I remember buying some too! And the frozen ground beef I had in the freezer Tony used in his gravy the night before last. So it was quickly on to Plan B. I had 3 chicken tenders in the freezer, so I defrosted those in the microwave. I Pam fried the chicken, then about a minute before they were done, I put 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of swiss cheese on top for a mock chicken cordon blue. On top a light bun with dijon mustard and pickles and a side of fries, dinner comes in at 11 points.
I am pretty sure pickles count as a veggie, right? š
Happy Friday! This week has been dragging for me – hope the work day goes by fast for me. Any plans for the weekend? I think tomorrow when I get back from Weight Watchers I’ll have an American Idol marathon – I have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s shows on the DVR. Are you watching it this year?
Make it a great day! š
My gym doesn’t offer crossfit – yet – but rumour has it it’ll be coming soon. Probably can’t say the same for the buffalo turkey…it hasn’t made it over the border. You meals look AMAZING Vat. And the offer still stands, I’ll change Tony’s bandages if he makes me cornbread!! š Have a great weekend.
ha, pickles totally count as a veggie!! well in my world, at least :). looks delish biz!
I didn’t read the comments so maybe someone already pointed this out, but updating your old posts doesn’t send out email updates, it only shows up in readers. It’s just something we’ll have to live with until you get them updated. There’s no way around it that I have figured out. I’ve had to update many of my old ones too b/c all my pictures disappeared. I still have many to go, but am thankful at least the email subscribers aren’t being bombarded. I just apologized to my readers for junking up their readers and haven’t got any complaints.
Good job on the weights-I’m sure I couldn’t even lift the naked bar-lol!
Thanks for the heads up V! Maybe I’ll just do two a day?
That would work! I’m not as thoughtful as you, I do as many as I can stand at a time-lol! But I do it at night so it might not cause as much of a problem b/c by the time people get up, the newer posts are in front of all those old ones.
YES to the buffalo turkey breast question! ours isn’t honeysuckle white brand, but it is delicious and my middle son’s favorite kind of lunchmeat!
I gotta give that cornbread recipe a try…every time I read a post of yours with it in it, it makes me want a piece more and more!
Have a good weekend, Biz…and enjoy your marathon. I have given up reality tv for good…lol Only fake dramas and comedies for me!
Your posts have been making me crave cornbread–so guess what I’m making tonight: cornbread. Yum! And way to go with giving the weight bar a try! I thought I was really weak the first time I was doing bench press–then I learned about that 45lb thing too š
crossfit is all the rage these days, i’m a little intimidated š way to go with those weights! those bars certainly are heavy!! i’ve got a friend’s 1yo bday party, but other than that… no idea š have a great one!
You should definitely keep updating! I LIKE reading the old posts – I just wasn’t sure if you realized it was happening, ha ha ha. Don’t let a pesky technical problem stop you from doing what you want to do with your site. GO BIZ!
Thanks Julia – I am just so technically challenged – I am sure its just a button I need to click not to resend old posts – I’ll see if I can figure it out this weekend. š
I actually just noticed last week that my deli has boars head buffalo style chicken, I need to get some tomorrow.
I hope your work day is cruising by, mine is going so slow! I don’t have big plans for the weekend and that is fine with me. š
That cross fit is no joke! I didn’t know it was all that.
Great job on the run!
Buffalo turkey? Sounds awesome! I have a co worker that does cross fit, and I really feel like such a wuss compared to her.
Crossfit scares me!
I’m entering my very first baking competition this weekend! I hope it goes okay!
I am sure you’ll do great B – all your baked goods look amazing! I still need to make your sweet and salty brownies!
http://www.990square.com/2011/01/sweet-and-salty-brownies/
I’d love to start doing crossfit, but it’s quite pricey. It may end up on my Christmas list though! š
My favorite exercise is the bench press! I’m benching 70#’s right now and am only 20#’s away from my husband! š
Love all these tiny women lifting big weights – woot!
I need to incorporate weight lifting into my routine, it’s my least favorite thing to do.
Maybe I should also start taking pics of all my meals so they will look pretty instead of just hastily put together. Your food always looks picture perfect, and you do a good job of incorporating all the food groups.
Thanks Marie – I love all your kids hair – but Ethan’s is my favorite!!
Whoop! Way to venture outside your comfort zone in the weight room. Those dinner fries are making me crave fries like mad! Weekend plans=fancy dinner tomorrow night, taxes tonight (booo) and hiking on Sunday!
Thanks for visiting and commenting! I had to investigate because of the name – if you read my posts, you’ll often hear about “the Biz”.My parents moved to IL from VA also – but they moved back (and left me stuck here)! I sure hope we don’t get 8 inches of snow here.
I remember when I first realized that the BAR alone weighted so much…and then they added weights, too?!? Crazy. Nice work on that, Biz!
I’m worried about that missing ground beef. I hope it’s not in the pantry.
Have a good weekend, and please let us know where’s the beef?!? (ok, that was bad grammar but I couldn’t resist)
OMG, I hope its not in the pantry!
I’ve seen the buffalo turkey at the supermarket but I’ve never tried that. Looks like that’s about to change!
Ah, my week is dragging too. My spouse is out of town on business, and my kid came home sick yesterday. One of my coworkers – in about 15 minutes – destroyed 3 weeks of my work. So yeah, this week blows.
Not sure if I’m going to work today. My kid is feeling better, but still has a runny nose.
Ack – that sucks – tomorrow is a new day, right?!
I saw the buffalo turkey breast a few times, I’ll have to give it a try!
I was surprised on heavy I could lift on certain things, and how light I needed to go on others. I agree that the bars are pretty heavy though!
I am definitely watching Idol! I watch with half of my attention, usually…but the girls were so good! Some of the top 24 were amazing, others…not so much at all. :-/ But I’m excited – love Idol!
Good luck at weigh-in, and yes…love that Buffalo Turkey! SOOO good!
YES! Squirrel comes home today for Spring Break. I am about busting at the seams – and she wants smoked chicken so we are making your recipe. YUM!
I hopefully can start doing some exercises soon. I have ZERO muscle tone and it looks nasty – not to mention I think my body would feel so much better with some excercise.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend my friend. I tip my cup a’ to you!
Hooray for Squirrel coming home! Sending huge hugs your way that your name will jump to the top of the transplant list! š
TGIF!!! Those bars are very heavy! Finally free weight bench pressed 70 pounds the other night. Thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head. My goal is 100#. We’ll see. Your food always looks so good!
You are so tiny Robin – I hope when you do it you take pictures on what a bad ass you are! š
Buffalo Style turkey breast? That sounds good! i’ll take a look for it, thanks!
As soon as I saw it Debbi, I thought “I wonder if Debbi knows about this!” š
