My Weight Watchers location made a move this week and this was the first week of meetings in the new space. It’s bigger and more modern, and only about 1 mile away from the old place.
Is it me or is every Weight Watchers location sandwiched between food related businesses? The last place? On the tiny strip mall was a bakery, Dairy Queen and Fat Guys Burgers.
This location is sandwiched between a Pizza Palace and Pablo’s Mexican restaurant! So I hadn’t weighed in for two weeks:
Notice the weight – 164, which is 5 pounds up from my lowest weight in early December. The emotional eating I did while Tony was in the hospital caught up with me, but I have recognized it, and will move in the right direction.
Yesterday for breakfast I had an egg sammie and a giant tangelo – so juicy and delicious! Breakfast comes in at 9 points.
I spent the better part of an hour yesterday deep cleaning our bedroom. Our dog sleeps on the floor at the foot of our bed, and I think one whole canister of the vacuum was just dog hair – ew! So it is nice and clean now. š
I had a couple errands to run, and knew I could fit in a quick workout at the gym. I ended up doing 45 minutes on the treadmill – 5 minute warm up, 5 minute cool down, then 35 minute run at 4.7 mph on a 4.3 incline hill – felt great! Here is a blurry blackberry photo to prove it!
It was nearly 3:45 when I finished my errands and I was hangry! So I picked up McDonald’s – Tony always gets either $1 burger or $1 chicken sammie and the $1 fries – I ended up with the Southwest Grilled Chicken salad – on eTools it says its 8 points, but not sure if that includes the dressing? It was actually pretty good.
Tony still doesn’t have much of an appetite. What’s weird is since his colon cancer surgery, the idea of a thick burger or thick pork chop makes him want to gag – and those were two of his favorite things!
So I ended up making us a plate of stuff around 8:00 last night. Shrimp, carrots (later I added a sliced pear) some meat, cheese, garlic toast. It was perfect. š
Guess what? Tony has a guest post! Here it is:
Biz has asked that explain how Errighn became part of my life. As some of you know I had Colon Cancer earlier in the year. While they attempted a less invasive Laparoscopic surgery, they were forced to open me up. As it turned out I had two tumors, and they were tough to get to.
I am not a person who is unfamiliar with surgical procedures; I have had my fair share. While this was a fairly simple procedure, the recovery was by far the most difficult I have ever endured. It was months of being sick, afraid to leave the house and complete loss of control of anything in my life. I do not feel as though I was prepared for any of the post surgical nastiness.
As normalcy slowly returned to my life something began to grow within me. My left stomach was oddly distended and felt very different than the right side. Time and time again I questioned the surgeon; he only commented that it was something I would have to live with. I was not satisfied with that answer so I met with my regular Doctor. He and I went to high school together and I trust him implicitly. ( I donāt think you have truly lived until a high school acquaintance holds your testicles and asks for you to cough.) He and another Doctor felt my stomach and agreed, there was something amiss in Tony.
Finally the Surgeon relented and an MRI was ordered. When he reviewed the results he apologized. It was one of the largest hernias he had ever seen.
While this is not me, this picture represents what it looked like. Mine was actually larger than that baby.
While I was enthused that I was correct, it dawned on me that yet another surgery was forthcoming.
I hate hospitals. Nothing good happens there. Sure they save lives but you pay for that in pain and misery.
This surgery was no exception. Instead of a two day stay it was a six day stay. I had to share a room with a gentleman whose snoring was almost as loud as his constant IV alarms. I almost unhooked myself and escaped on day 5. Finally I made a deal and escaped on day six.
As it turns out they tried to go in and put a piece of material in to stop the bulging. As is always the case they ended having to cut me open. They removed a very large chunk of scar tissue, and sewed me back up.
A week or so later Biz and I were watching one of those women giving birth shows. It then dawned on me. I had given birth, and she was my long lost daughter Errighn. Errighn is gone, but she lives on is my memory and dreams. One recent evening where I had a terrible nightmare in which Biz was very mean to me, Errighn was there to comfort me.
I never had invisible friends when I was young. I think its ok that I do now.
P.S. My son has invited Errighn to his upcoming nuptials, we are both very excited!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I’ll be back on Monday with a New Years Post. Be safe and have fun! š
My morning meetings kill me with the smells of fresh bagels. Thankfully the Chinese & Mexican restaurants are closed then!
Tony….I didn’t know where we were going with that story at first…HA!
Happy New Year Biz, and thanks for sharing family photos. I am the same age as your mom, how about that! LOL
Bahahaha!
In Canon City, Colorado, the Weight Watchers meetings are at a donut shop! And the Curves Ladies Workout Gym is next to Cold Stone Creamery (ice cream shop!) Yikes!
I love your blog, your recipes, and your stories! Best of luck to you and your family in 2012…
Happy New Year Biz!
Loved Tony’s guest post.
That meat and cheese plate looks divine! YUM!

Happy New Year to you and the family….cant wait to see what 2012 has in store for us.
Happy New Year Dear Vat and Tony!!! I look forward to reading more posts from you BOTH in 2012. May the new year bring you nothing but health, happiness and love, and may all your wishes come true. hugs.
Laughing at Tony and the testicle comment! Happy (healthy) New Year!
Happy New Year Biz, Tony and Errighn! Wow what a crazy story. My heart goes out to Tony for what he has endured. I seriously fail to see how any doctor could ignore such a blatant problem. I’m so glad you’re on the mend Tony and I wish you and Biz the best year ever.
I may not have accomplished my goal in your holiday challenge, but something wonderful did come out of it. I now have a little handful of bloggers who stop by to read my blog and I am so grateful for them. The comments really motivated me to stay strong throughout my marathon training. Thank you so much for making me feel a part of the blog world.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful January 1st and a terrific year ahead!
That Tony, he’s so crazy! š
I bet both of you are glad to put 2011 behind you – NO MORE HOSPITALS, right?!?
Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to you, Tony and Hannah! Here’s to a hospital free new year! How wonderful that Errighn will comfort Tony whenever you are sooooo mean to him! š
Thanks BIz for your wonderful blog, my mornings wouldn’t be the same if I couldn’t read it!!
Biz
I swear that your Tony and my hubby Tony are twins!!!!!! Their sense of humor is identical and both have spent a lot of time in hospitals this year. Have a great New Year!
LOL! Great guest post Tony! Happy New Year!
Biz, have a wonderful NYE tonight! I’m getting Bizzy in my kitchen today for our NYE dinner party tonight!
My old WW was across the street from Dairy Queen, in the same parking plaza as Carl’s Jr and in the same strip mall as Ezell’s Chicken (AKA Oprah’s favorite fried chicken) I have yet to hear of one that is next to a gym or Whole Foods or farmer’s market!
Biz, stop picking on Tony in his dreams! The man’s been through enough already! š
Snack platessss! Best dinner ever! Loved this story! Congrats on the birth tony š
Love Tony’s sense of humor. It’s how you get through the tough times without going crazy!
I found that about WW centers as well. Ours is next to Panera Bread LOL!
Happy New Year – and I wish you a wonderful 2012!
What a great post, if you can’t approach such painful and life changing things with humor what can you do? Happy new year to you all, I hope 2012 is smooth sailing for you guys…including Errighn š
Too funny. I agree nothing good happens in hospitals.
Beautifully haunting piece by Tony… gives me warm fuzzies š
I don’t know all the details but I know that an acquaintence “cured” her colon type cancer by cutting out meat and other things. Maybe Tony’s aversion to meat has something to do with the fact that his body doesn’t WANT it.
Tony – Funny and a little creepy all at the same time. Do you make Biz scoot over in bed to make room now? š
Bizzy, great year! Thats why we created the Zero Scale as you know…when you gain a little, you still see the total loss without focusing on the total weight. And it becomes a number yoiu can overcome quickly. As far as the emotional eating, it happens. But if it’s primal food: lean meats, tons of veggies, some nuts and fruit, good fats, tea, coffee and water, it won’t hurt you at all. If you could just take my advice for 21 days and go totally primal or paleo, you would finally see what I mean. under 100 grams of carbs, no grains or legumes for just 21 days…. I have several clients now with A1C numbers in the 5’s! Their diabetes isn’t just under control, it’s gone! I promise this works, and 1000’s of followers of marksdailyapple.com (primal blueprint and its free) are making this happen. I want you to beat this so badly. Zero Excuses right! 2012, no more diabetes…
Happy New Year, Biz! Great job, on your weigh in, I know that you’re going to kick ass in 2012 š
And I literally snorted from laughing so hard reading Tony’s post. Made my day! haha
