Okay, I think Tony has about had it with party pizza Friday. I never mention what’s for dinner on Friday’s because I already know that I am going to make pizza! So I was bringing up the stand mixer from the basement and he asks “what’s for dinner?” I hem and haw, but then meekly say “deep dish sausage pizza?” While I could eat pizza every day and never get sick of it, I think Tony is done with pizza for a while – but at least I went out with a bang – this one was delicious!!
But I am sure you are waiting with anticipation as to “what did Biz eat for breakfast and lunch??” 😀
One kiwi has 3 grams of fiber! And thanks to the corned beef, my breakfast was kind of high in sodium.
Lunch was the rest of my Mexican Soup – which I am happy to say is only 80 calories a cup, 4.5 grams of fat, 7 carbs, 5 protein and 1 fiber.
I had two cups with 1.5 ounces of tortilla chips – I dipped the chip into the soup, then splashed Tabasco on each bite = heaven!
Yep – the chicken broth put me over the edge in the sodium department, but this was really good!
I used my Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza Dough. While it was mixing it was still kind of sticking to my mixing bowl, so I added 1 tsp. of olive oil and it worked like a charm – look how clean my bowl is after the kneading!
I am actually curious how this dough would taste if I actually let it rise – I was impatient last night and only let it rest 15 minutes before rolling it out.
Damn Diners, Drive-Inns and Dives. We recently saw an episode where they went to a pizza place and they had a LAYER of sausage in their deep dish pizza. I made a giant patty of sausage, browned it on both sides then used my rolling pin to make it into a big circle. I added the sausage on top of the ingredients above, then finished off with my pasta sauce and more cheese.
Baked at 425 for 20 minutes – let cool at least five minutes.
I could be over estimating, but my guess is that 1/4 of this pizza comes in at 788 calories, 40 fat, 82 carbs, 25 protein, 0 fiber, 1,676 sodium. But because I had low calories for breakfast and lunch, it all worked out.
Stats for Friday
- 1,519 calories
- 81 fat (oops – 45% of my calories were from fat!) 🙁
- 148 carbs
- 63 protein
- 15 fiber
- 4,433 sodium (2 times the recommended amount)
- 40 minute jog on the treadmill
- 5 minutes abs
A glance back on this weeks food – not enough fruits and veggies – I think I may have to go back to having big side salads at lunch – that is going to be on my radar next week.
I have lot’s of new things to try too thanks to you guys!
First up – Devon from Traveling Taste Buds made this Wonder Paste – you have to see it to believe it. Luckily my store carries cilantro for 3 bunches for a dollar! I plan on adding this to wraps and maybe even my egg wraps next week!
Next, Christy from the Actors Diet had Two Peas cater her whole day worth of meals. One of the items in her day was a Wheat Berry Salad that I am going to try to recreate. Ellie Krieger has a salad similar that is on my menu for lunch next week – thanks for the idea Christy!
Then Laura had an Amy’s tortilla and black bean frozen dinner that looked really good! I have a vegetarian recipe I am going to try out for my lunch next week too – I am hoping it freezes well, because I don’t think Tony or Hannah would like this – lots of green chiles!
Other Peeps to Check Out:
RobinSue – quite possibly a genius because she now serves dinner at breakfast and eats breakfast for dinner! You have to check this out!
Shelley kicked ass this week with her workouts – she continues to inspire me on a daily basis – check out her bruises too!
And Cathy made this amazing creamy warm bacon dip – this may show up on Superbowl Sunday! Calories don’t count that day do they?
I sent my Jillian DVD to Faith for winning last week’s BSI – she’s from upstate New York, somewhere I have never been.
So my question of the day? Where are you from? You don’t have to be too specific, a state will do!
Don’t forget that Val is hosting BSI this week – mushrooms! You have until Sunday night to submit your entrees – I have to get going on that!!
So sad Tony is tired of pizza. I’m like you– I could eat it every day!
That pizza looks so heavenly!
Boo Tony 🙁 Can we vote him off the pizza island? 😀
I live in Western NY, between Buffalo and Rochester, but my heart belongs in the Thousand Islands Region of NYS where we have our cottage. Seriously, the most beautiful place on earth!

I’m DROOLING all over my keyboard, my dear Biz! Tony is a lucky, lucky guy!!! I’ll bet that’s what he was thinking as he sunk his teeth into that glorious deep dish pizza!! Whoooo!!
I’m Korean! I lived in singapore for 10 years. I moved to Virginia. And now I’m in LA! 🙂
Glad it inspired you! Let me know how it turns out!
Oh my gosh, I NEED deep dish pizza!!! I will definitely be trying to recreate that! By the way, thanks for the shout out! 🙂

I am having so much lately making deep dish pizza in my cast iron skillet!
I’m from New Hampshire! East Coasttttt!
That pizza looks amazing! I can’t believe Tony doesn’t love pizza that much, I could definitely eat it everyday too!
Born and bred in Milwaukee, maybe one day I’ll branch out! 😛
That sausage patty is a Chicago thing, Biz! hehe Even I know that. I think Uno’s and Giordano’s does it. J has had it before but wasn’t a fan. I saw it on TV too where they used the dough press to mash out the patty. I think the concept is cool, but I’m not sure I’d like it.
I’m about 25 miles SW of Chicago!
By where are we “from” do you mean originally!? haha B/c I’m not native Chicago – only 3.5 yrs. Born in upstate NY, raised primarily on coast of NC, did a stint in FL, a stint in PEI, Canada, and then ended up here!
Oh my heavens…I’m not even a huge pizza person, but that has me drooling! Deep dish is my absolute favorite. There’s SOMEthing about it!
I’m from Indianapolis, Indiana!
that pizza looks awesome!
Hey!
Love your blog, and have been following it for a while now! I”m from BC, Canada, right on the westcoast. Keep up the awesome work – we never get sick of looking at your pizza, drooling over it, and wishing we were eating it!
Alison

I don’t know if I kicked ass or had my ass kicked…but either way, that was one heck of a week! Thanks for the shout out!!!
I will miss pizza Fridays ::sniff:: – I live vicariously through you with all of your yummy looking pizzas!
I’m from Texas and California…never been to New York, either!
Your pizza looks amazing! I have to try that in my skillet.
I love the sausage layer too…
And, of course, you know where I’m from since I am your twin! Ha!
Have an awesome Saturday. Another rainy day in Chicago so I can spend a ton of time in my kitchen!!!
We can do pizza here every night and never get sick of it. It’s the best when you make your own dough. I like a honey whole wheat crust. I am from Baltimore, but I lived in Las Vegas 5 years and now I am in the Azores. Probably will move a bunch more since I just married the best guy ever, and he is in the air force.
I live vicariously through you Melinda with all your travels! 😀
oh my gosh, that pizza! Looks SO SO craveworthy.
oh man oh man! That deep dish pizza is making my mouth water! I want to try a slice!
WHOA looks at all that gorgeous cheese! honestly, i do pizza every friday unless i go out to dinner with friends and it NEVER gets old!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me, miss pizza queen, if you had to see the sausage patty deep dish pizza on TV, you obviously haven’t been to Gino’s East, Lou Malnati’s, or Giordanos, because they ALL do that!!! 🙂
I actually think it was Geno’s East!!
P.S. I’m from Atlanta, Georgia! 🙂
That pizza is making me droolllllllll… 🙂 Andrew and I have been wanting to make a gluten free deep dish pizza forver now. I bet he’d loooove some sausage in it. I think I secretly (or not so secretly?) would like it in there too!! 😉
