Anna at London Foodie in New York is hosting this week’s BSI – chocolate! I almost wasn’t going to submit anything, because being diabetic, chocolate is pretty low on my list of ingredients I use on a daily basis! But then I started thinking, and I decided to make something to give away! And since the holidays will be here before you know it, its a great idea to give this away to co-workers in a holiday mug and add a couple sticks of peppermint for stirring.
Best Hot Cocoa Mix
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups dry milk powder
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup cinnamon chips
- 1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer
- 1/8 tsp. salt
Mix everything together with a whisk. I put my cocoa mix in jars (I am taking them to my twinfest today to give to my sister and friends!). The first layer is cinnamon chips, next layer the cocoa mix and then top with chocolate chips. Add instructions that read: Spoon 3 or 4 generous tablespoons of cocoa mix to your cup and add boiling water, stir well.
These cinnamon chips were from a Great Harvest that went out of business – $5 for this whole bag! And Joe, next time you come over I am going to make you cinnamon muffins with these – they are really good!
Hope you enjoy! Gotta scoot – I have a 40 minute drive to my friends house! See you tonight! 😀
This is such a great gift! Perfect for the holidays. I absolutely love making “food” things for gifts. Thanks for posting the contents and instructions
Sounds absolutely delicious! What a great gift!
What a great idea – both for the BSI contest and for gift-giving!
I found you via BSI. I love the idea of the cinnamon chips in the mix. I love the combination of cinnamon and chocolate. I too have recently started cooking with them, however I find them SO hard to find that I stock up whenever I see them.
Cinnamon chips!? This recipe sounds like a BSI winner to me 🙂
That’s SO clever- great idea, thanks!
I love the idea of BSI, but I can’t figure out how to know when each one starts/what the rules are/ who to send the recipe to, etc. Help?
If you click on the BSI Page up at the top of my blog, it has all of the rules and who the current host is.
Sundays end the submission, and then a new host/ingredient is picked on Monday’s and you’ll have until the next Sunday to submit. 😀
I am so gonna have to try this, my mom used to make us homemade cocoa when we were kids with everything in it but the chips. I will be slurping this down all winter long…
YUM!! I have never heard of cinnamon chips, what a great addiction to the perfect cup of hot cocoa!
Oh Biz I loooove this idea!!! 🙂 My mom’s a piano teacher and she always gets cute little mixes and jars of treats like these, but I’ve never thought to recreate them!!
Giveaway on my blog!!!! Everybody head on over! 😉
Wow, I’ve never even thought about making that before – it looks GREAT!!! Thanks for the idea!
What a great idea. I have to do this. It makes a wonderful, loving gift.
