I finished my work project 10 minutes before 5:00, so I didn’t have to stay late – yahoo!  I was so glad because I wanted to try this Chinese barbecue sauce – I had to keep it mild for Tony and Hannah, but had I made it just for myself, I would have added 1 teaspoon of Sriracha hot sauce and it would have been KILLER!

Chinese Barbecue Sauce

  • 1/3 cup prepared barbecue sauce (I used K.C. Masterpiece Original)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut sauce (House of Tsang)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce (if you can stand the heat, use it!!)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, divided

Mix the sauce together using everything except 1 teaspoon of the sesame seeds.  Since there is honey and barbecue sauce, you really only need to finish the wings the last five minutes or else they will burn.  The green you see is just the reflection of my tree outside!

I had both wings and beef ribs – forgot to take a picture of the ribs on the grill, but I started with the wings, fat side down first:

I seared them on both sides, then moved them to the outer ring, and put the beef ribs in the middle to sear, and then removed them to the outside.  Because of the high fat content of both meats, I had the lid all the way shut to prevent flare-ups.

After the wings were removed I sprinkled with the remaining teaspoon of sesame seeds.  Um, these were finger licking good!  I started out with two wings on my plate, 1 short rib and 1/2 cup black rice (my battery died, so no pics of that either!).

Yep, those are my sticky fingers!!!!

There is a restaurant I pass every day on my way to work, and Tony and I have eaten there on a couple of our wedding anniversaries.   It burned down last night!  The fire started at like 4:00 o’clock in the morning, and just a few walls remained.  In the online local newspaper, they said a couple was going there for dinner for their 39 wedding anniversary with a gift certificate and were shocked to find it still smoking!!

Okay, remember my morning post wherein I stated that I was going to eat lower fat foods that also happened to be low carb??  Um, that was not the case for dinner!  You see, I loved this sauce so much, my hand mysteriously reached for THREE MORE wings than were on my original plate!  So while dinner comes in at:

  • 736 calories
  • 45 fat
  • 55 protein
  • 22 carbs
  • .3 fiber

My stats for the day were:

  • 1437 calories
  • 76 fat
  • 98 protein
  • 84 carbs
  • 12 fiber

So as a whole, the day wasn’t too bad!  I have an idea for breakfast tomorrow – Black Rice Egg Bacon Casserole for One – its either going to be amazing or suck!  You’ll just have to come back to find out!

Night! 😀
