So Hannah and I had a couple errands to run. I wanted to stop by Tuesday Morning and look for bathroom and kitchen rugs, and then hit Trader Joe’s for a few things. I knew I would be right by Kobe East, that has really good sushi. I had Tony write up his list of what he wanted, fatty tuna being his favorite. Hannah was happy to get a California roll and I wanted to get their Bento box – you can mix and match your entrees and sides.
Imagine our disappointment when we got there and they are not open for lunch on Sunday! So Hannah gets on her phone and googles sushi restaurants, but there are none others anywhere near where we were. So on to Plan B. There was a beef stand not too far away. Hannah and I just stood looking at the menu for what seemed like an hour, because we had sushi on the brain and the menu we were reading had no sushi on it!
I ended up getting a cup of chicken tortellini soup and a “garden salad.” I put “garden salad” in quotes because when I got home, this is what I had:
The only saving grace was that I picked up one of my favorite salad dressings at TJ’s –
But after a few bites, the lettuce tasted funny, and croutons were kind of stale. And the soup had no flavor – even my trusty Tabasco couldn’t bring that around! So on to Plan C! Two slices of my homemade bread, an ounce of Pesto montery jack cheese and the hot pepper from my salad – grilled to perfection!
So I basically paid $5.50 for a hot pepper! Oh well. I am off to make my superbowl recipe. Come back tonight for Italian Sunday Gravy – the kitchen smells amazing right now!
I don’t mean to sound Tony Robinny, but I love the way you handle things that life throws at you.
If one thing does not work, keep looking until you find something. That sort of great forward thinking is what we all need to have.
Love your blog.
What a bummer about Plans A & B! That TJ dressing sounds great, I can’t believe I’ve never seen it before! I am the same way with sushi–once I have it on the brain, there is no going back!
How disappointing. It is frustrating to get a “garden” salad that is nothin more than iceburg lettuce.
shame on them sushit places for closing on a sunday! it should be available 24/7 🙂
“Garden salads” are so annoying – seriously, can’t restaurants spice it up a little bit?! Sorry yours was such a let down 🙁
That sandwich though = YUMS!
Boy, I sure do miss Trader Joe’s. I think that those stores and the Pacific Ocean are the only things I miss about Southern California after having moved to Texas a few years ago 🙂
Oh wow, super tasty eats! Sorry to hear about the salad though.
Yeah. Never waste calorie son bad food. Yay for your new creation. Nay for the rip off. Happy cooking.
