I was running a bit late this morning, and while I had made my lunch the night before, I didn’t make a breakfast. I knew I had a $1 off coupon for the new flatbread sandwiches and decided to give it a shot.
First off, I ordered the Turkey sausage flatbread, and when I got to work I realized that they gave me the veggie one. My only fear is the onion factor. Whenever anything is veggie, onions always seem to make their way into it!
So how was it? Just okay. There was a lot more flatbread to egg white ratio, and if I didn’t have my trust Tabasco sauce it would have been really dry. The veggie comes in at:
- 280 calories
- 9 fat
- 39 carbs
- 3 fiber
- 11 protein
So I am thinking that’s pretty good – I don’t think its worth it without the coupon, and obviously this is something I can make at home. So I go on their website (mainly to see if there is anything in the onion family in the ingredient list!) and this is what I find is in my simple egg white flatbread sammie:
INGREDIENTS: Ingredients: Multigrain Bread: Enriched Wheat Flour [Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid], Water, Whole Wheat Flour, Yeast, Sugar, Brown Flax Seeds, Soybean Oil, Salt, Millet Seed, Dough Conditioners (Calcium Sulfate, Guar Gum, Vegetable Mono and Diglycerides, L-Cysteine, Calcium Peroxide, Enzymes), Park Grains (Oat Flour, Yellow Corn Flour, Rye Flour, Buckwheat Flour, Rice Flour, Spelt Flour, Sesame Seeds, Poppy Seeds), Cracked Whole Wheat, Baking Powder (Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate and Monocalcium Phosphate), Non-Fat Milk, Yeast Nutrients (Ammonium Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid, Azodicarbonamide); Egg Patty: Egg Whites, Monterey Jack Cheese [Pasteurized Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes, Potato Starch and Powdered Cellulose (to prevent caking), Natamycin (A Natural Mold Inhibitor)], Diced Green Peppers, Diced Red Peppers, Shredded Potatoes [Potatoes, Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate added to preserve natural color], Swiss Cheese Blend [Swiss Cheese (Pasteurized Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes) Water, Milkfat, Sodium Phosphate, Lactic Acid, Salt, Sorbic Acid (Preservative), Natural Flavors, Sodium Citrate, Xanthan Gum, Powdered Cellulose (to prevent caking)], Modified Food Starch (Corn), Diced Green Onions, Roasted Mushrooms (Mushrooms, Canola Oil, Salt and Pepper), Cheese Flavor (Maltodextrin, Whey Solids, Natural Cheddar Flavor, Salt), Salt, Natural Flavor, Whole Milk Solids, Soybean Oil, Dextrose with Spice Extractive, Xanthan Gum; Cheddar Cheese: Pasteurized Reduced Fat Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Enzymes, Annatto (Vegetable Color), Vitamin A Palmitate.
I didn’t know that so many things were needed for a simple breakfast sandwich! I see no signs of onions, so I have that going for me!
And the winner of my brother Charlie’s book . . .

I’m a bit late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Charlier
Congrats Lara – good things come to those who wait! Email me your street address at BDL319@gmail.com.
Morning break is over – I have a GIANT stir fry for lunch – see you then!
i’ve had that exact sammie from DD for the past two days, but w/o the cheese and thought mine was pretty moist. i agree the egg to bread ratio is off but for the second one i tried i sliced it in half to make sure it covered the entirety of the bread. i think it’s best as a last minute resort though. 🙂
BTW, that Panera breakfast sandwich is made with real, whole eggs. They use pasteurized shell eggs so they are safe for everyone.
Egg patty?!! Did you know that egg patties and liquid eggs were first developed as prison food? It was low cost waste from egg producers.
WOW that’s a long list. I instinctively started scanning it for “whey” and then realized I didn’t have to!!!! hahaha
cool! congrats to the winner! yea i am sooooo not feeling those breakfast sammies! that looks like a s*itload of ingredients for egg whites and flatbread! and it looks like half of them arent even real food but additives!
so my conclusion, ok for a once in a while thing.. but i would say no way to everyday!
Congrats Lara!!
That is about 20 ingredients to many for a breakfast sandwich! Glad to know it tastes alright though 🙂
It’s ridiculous how many ingredients are needed in a sandwich, isn’t it? Am usually not a big fan of onions either- but I’m starting to accept them:)
P.S. Please apologize to Charlie about the typo in my birthday wishes 😉
YAY! I am so excited, I never win anything and that book looks really fun and interesting! Thank you so much 😀
I am exactly the same with 5 meals. Usually if I have a snack or small meal, I am still likely to eat a large meal at my next opportunity. It’s just the way I am programmed!
Thank you again for the awesome giveaway! I’ll email you my details.
TGIF!
That looks really good. I’ve always wondered if those were any good!
