Okay, I have tried to like salmon, but I just can’t get over the taste. I think this is the fifth time I have tried it, but no such luck. We used the cedar planks and they gave everything a nice smokey flavor though!
But I loved the Barramundi! I marinated that in an Asian marinade:
- 1/2 cup lite soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- black pepper to taste
It was so “non-fishy!” It was very smooth. My husband preferred the salmon. We coated the salmon with a lemon pepper butter. Half of the shrimp I put barbecue sauce on, the other half I just sprinkled with garlic seasoned salt.
So, despite not liking the salmon, I loved everything else!
Hi – I saw your comment about the barramundi fish and was curious where you bought it and what made you decide to try it. I ask because I’m the Vice President of Marketing for Australis Aquaculture, a Massachusetts-based company that trying to make barramundi ‘the next big fish’ here in the US.
We’re raising fresh barramundi in one of the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly enclosed aquaculture systems here in Massachusetts, and are also selling a frozen product from barramundi’s native waters of Southeast Asia. You’ll be glad to know that both are very healthy for you – no antibiotics, hormones, colorants or additives, no mercury, PCBs or other contaminants and all sustainably farmed. You can learn more from our website: http://www.thebetterfish.com
I was particularly intrigued by your comment that it’s so ‘non fishy’. I have heard this from other consumers and am thinking of making it a key selling point in our marketing and public relations material, so would love any additional feedback you can give me on your barramundi experience.
Thanks and glad you liked our fish!
Cheers,

PS – I like your blog; great photos and practical tips. Will be passing it along to some diabetic friends of mine.
I’ve always wanted to try to grill salmon on a cedar plank, I like how you guys used the cedar to grille verything and not just the salmon.
You get major kudos for at least trying the salmon and coming to an understanding that you don’t like it. There are several foods out tehre that look so good and I’ve tried several times just wanting to like it, but myt aste buds just don’t agree. 🙂 Some foods are just like that
