Peach Walnut Streusel

When it comes to food, I am must more of a savory person than a sweet person.  But holy balls this peach walnut streusel is hands down the best dessert I’ve ever made.   What makes it a streusel?  A streusel is a combination of flour, sugar and fat (butter in this case), and those ingredients are what creates the signature crumb texture that becomes golden and crisp when baked.  You can also add nuts (we added walnuts), oats or other spices as well.

Ingredients Needed

  • peaches (we used fresh, but frozen would work!  I would defrost them in a colander to wick away an excess moisture)
  • flour
  • sugar
  • brown sugar
  • seasonings: cinnamon, cornstarch, salt
  • butter

Weight Watcher points vs. Calories in this dish

I know some people will look at this peach walnut streusel and immediately focus on the fact that it’s 14 Weight Watchers points per serving.  But here’s the thing: it’s also only 290 calories.  The points are higher because I used real sugar, real butter and real ingredients.  A few years ago, that number would have scared me.  I would have convinced myself that eating a dessert like this would have meant I had no self-control, that I had “blown it,” and then I would have spent the next few says eating anything and everything because I figured the damage was already done.

Today, my mindset is completely different.  After losing 41 pounds and maintaining that loss, I’ve learned that balance is what makes this lifestyle sustainable.  A serving of homemade peach streusel absolutely fits into my week.  No guilt.  No shame.  No starting over on Monday.  Just enjoying a delicious dessert made with ingredients I love and moving on with my day.  Honestly, that’s one of the biggest transformations I’ve made.  The weight loss is great, but learning that one dessert doesn’t define my success has been even more freeing.  Food no longer controls me, and that feels better than any number on the scale.

If you are new here, welcome to My Bizzy Kitchen! I started this blog nearly 18 years ago to document my recipes and daily life, never imagining it would one day become my full-time career. After losing my husband nearly 10 years ago, I navigated the hardest chapter of my life while still finding joy in cooking and sharing my journey.

In December 2020, I took a leap of faith and left my 30-year career as a legal secretary to pursue My Bizzy Kitchen full-time, a decision that changed my life.

Two years later, in October 2022, I was able to hire my daughter, Hannah, full-time, which brings me so much joy. Now, My Bizzy Kitchen is more than just recipes. It’s about embracing life, finding balance, and making healthy living sustainable and fun.
