Healthy Biscuits and Gravy
Biscuits and gravy is one of my go to items to order when I eat out for breakfast or brunch. But those typically are closer to 30 Weight Watchers points and 1000 calories, so I decided to make a healthy biscuits and gravy and this recipe turned out delicious!
Ingredients
- chicken Italian sausage
- flour
- milk of choice
- low carb hot dog buns
- light butter
- seasonings: salt, pepper, sage
CarbMaster Breads
One of my favorite ways to add more protein and fiber to my meals is with CarbMaster breads, hamburger buns, and hot dog buns. They make it so easy to enjoy the foods I already love while helping me stay full and satisfied longer. Whether I’m making a breakfast sandwich, a turkey burger, or a grilled hot dog on the deck, these products give me the texture and taste of traditional bread products with the added nutritional benefits of extra protein and fiber. Small swaps like this can make a big difference when you’re trying to build balanced meals that keep you energized throughout the day without feeling like you’re missing out.

Healthy Biscuits and Gravy
This super easy biscuits and gravy sounds weird using low carb hot dog buns, but it works!
Ingredients
- 1 chicken Italian sausage link
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 tablespoon light butter, divided
- 1 cup milk (we used CarbMaster lactose free milk)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground sage
- 1 low carb hot dog bun
Instructions
Cut the low-carb hot dog bun into 4 equal pieces. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of the light butter over both cut sides of the bun pieces.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place the bun pieces cut-side down in the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Add the chicken sausage to the same skillet. Cook for 5–6 minutes, using a spoon or spatula to break the sausage into small crumbles as it cooks.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to coat. Cook for 2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon light butter, milk, salt, black pepper, and ground sage. Stir continuously and cook for 4–5 minutes, or until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
Arrange the toasted bun pieces on a plate and spoon the sausage gravy over the top.
Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately.
