I can’t believe that Friday, September 4 will mark my one year blog anniversary! I have had so much fun with the blog this past year and want to thank my family for putting up with my hobby!
In one year I’ve had:
- 128,568 total views
- 978 posts (wow!)
I’ve met some wonderful people along with way too – which is just the icing on the cake! A few blogs I still read each and every day:
Kath at KERF
Meghann at Innerworkings of a College Graduate
Ree at Pioneer Woman Cooks
Cathy at Noble Pig
Robin Sue at Big Red Kitchen
Shelley at A 40-something Weight Loss Journey
Jen at A Prior Fat Girl
The thing I love about the above-mentioned ladies is that while food is the common denominator, these women couldn’t be more different, in terms of their age, where their lives are and where they are going. They are inspirational, funny, willing to share their joys and failures, and if you haven’t checked them out – I suggest you do!
And I do read everyone’s blog that is on my blog roll, but because I read every word, it might take me a week to get down the list! And rest assured even if I don’t comment on every post, I do read every word!
But before we get to that, I had the most “non-Biz” breakfast of my life! Banana Nut Cheerios! I can’t even remember the last time I had cereal for breakfast! I used soy milk that I got at Big Lot’s – it was so good and surprisingly pretty filling! But after our 45 minute walk at lunch, I was pretty hungry!
For lunch I decided to use leftovers and made a corn tortilla quesadilla out of my black bean and corn salad from my SIL’s bday party – with a delicious salad on the side!
I loved the combination of balsamic vinegar with the strawberries – it was so refreshing!
Tony is actually out with friends tonight, and I can’t decide what to make for dinner, so I decided to just post my giveaway and figure it out. The wait is over!
This month’s giveaway (drum roll . . . . .)
MasterCook 9.0 Recipe Software!
A Giant Bottle of Tabasco Sauce!
And a jar of Tabasco Pepper Jelly!
Sorry the pictures suck, but I took them off of Amazon.com! 😀
I use MasterCook all the time. This is the newest version and here are some of the highlights!
- It already includes 8,000 recipes, from appetizers, entrees, desserts, grill recipes – and has the NUTRITIONAL INFO for every recipe!
- You can search by ingredient, food types, cook time – 400 recipes can be made in under 20 minutes!
- You can scale a recipe with the click of your mouse, whether you are cooking for 5 or 50!
- Put together a menu, click another button and it prints out your GROCERY LIST!
- You can import recipes from anywhere on the Web
- You can use the program to manage your entire recipe collection by entering your own recipes, recipes from magazines, etc.
- Not only does the nutritional analysis track fats, carbs, calories, etc., but it will show you the healthier alternatives to popular ingredients, so you can see how substitutions will alter the nutritional values
- They also have INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS so you can see how to bone a chicken, or preparing a rack of lamb!
I actually got my software from my library, and it’s version 4.0 – this updated version blows mine away! (I think I may have to purchase one for myself too!)
How do you win?

- Link back to this post from your blog for an extra entry.
- The winner will be picked at dinner time on my ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY – Friday, September 4.
In other good news, my Panera Bread Copy Cat Broccoli Cheese Soup picture made it on TasteSpotting today! So I am about to visit some new blogs and I hope you stop by again! And a HUGE thank you to everyone who stops by – I really appreciate it!
Good luck and I’ll see you tomorrow night! 😀
Congrats on your 1 year! I just thought I’d echo you–I read all the blogs, but can’t possibly comment on them all. Yours is one I do read and enjoy!
Much luck in all you do.
Favorite recipe? Hmmm–that’s a tough one. I love “my” lasagna and really loved this banana coffee cake I posted recently.

Congrats Biz!!! Love your blog so much 😀
My favorite family recipe?? Probably tortilla de patata that my grandma made, she was from spain and made the BEST food ever!!
Happy Blogiversary! Love reading your blog.
My favorite recipe is my mom’s spaghetti sauce. We have her spaghetti every Christmas and there are so many wonderful memories linked to it.
ahhh! We’re practically blogiversary twinkies! Love it! Thanks for the blog recs!! (I saw the link to your sister’s – another great blog – so cool that you guys do this together!!) My favorite recipe (right now!) is probably red curry chicken!
Happy early blogiversary, Biz! I’m glad you’re here!
Oh heavens…picking a favorite recipe is tough! I think it’s a toss-up between my sister-in-law’s chocolate cake recipe and her Chinese chicken salad recipe. I was able to low-carb the salad, but not the cake. 🙂 I’m looking forward to baking it for my son’s birthday party next weekend, though.
My husband doesn’t cook to recipes, but everything he cooks tastes fantastic; I especially like his lasagna (which we haven’t made in forever) and ribs smoked on the grill. He makes a mean sausage gravy, too…
My favorite recipe is an egg burrito! Saute peppers, onions, and mushrooms in a pan, add your eggs to cook. Put cooked omelet in a wrap and grill on George Forman. Add salsa!
I’m not going to enter this contest (I think you know how I feel about spicey food!), but I wanted to comment anyway.
HAPPY BLOGAVERSARY!
The corn tortilla has my mouth watering. Seriously, you come up with some good stuff, Biz. Also, I am dying to try those Banana Nut Cheerios. How are they? I have a feeling they would be addicting.
my favorite recipie is a greek pasta salad that’s so easy and yet loved by all…
WW pasta (i like bowties)
cherry tomatoes cut in half
black olives cut in half
red onion (i know you’d leave it out!)
cucumber
cubed feta
fresh basil
EVOO
juice of half a lemon
s&p to taste 🙂
it’s even better day #2!
My favorite recipe is stew in the crockpot!
I make this every Sunday! I strated this tradition over a year ago in my family and the smell it cooking all day and can’t wait!

Wow, for 1 year you sure have lots of post. Again congratulations!
Ok- your lunch looks soooo melty and delicious that I’m drooling 😉 Happy almost blog birthday!!
hmmmm its not really a recipe- but my mom makes the most incredible spaghetti sauce. I’m not sure what she does differently than I do but it always tastes INCREDIBLE. My mama really got me into cooking and she just rocks
My favorite recipe is called Banquet Fried Chicken! I like to over cook it. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
I didn’t realize you started JUST before me!!! I started Sept. 13th – how funny! I don’t even have 200 posts yet, you’ve got me beat by a lot! Wow!
My favorite recipe is a super easy, super yummy weight watching recipe called Taco Soup. It makes a ton and we eat it for days, willingly!

Happy blogiversary. My favorite recipe is my mom’s homemade green bean/ red bean congee. It can be eaten hot or cold. So yummy. Always popular at family events.
Hi, I came here because of Jen (Prior Fat Girl) linking this post. Congrats on your blogoversary! I can’t believe you made almost 1000 posts in one year, that’s awesome =)
as far as my favorite recipe… usually I just make something random, but if I want to feel like a chef, I cook this sort of spicy rotisserie chicken my mom makes. It’s a pain in the butt to make the marinade but it tastes amazing, so yeah
<3
Happy early blogoversary 🙂
Congratulations on one whole year of blogging – that’s is awesome! I’m sure you’ve inspired many people along the way.
My favorite recipe has got to be my Grandma’s Shrimp Ceviche from Ecuador. I love the diced red onions, red & green peppers, cilantro & all the simple spices it contains. and she always served it with a bowl of plain white rice. it’s so so good….Yummy
Congratulations on a whole year of blogging and with stats like yours, that’s something to be very proud of ! My favorite recipe is my apple pie recipe which I got from my college roommate. Every time I make it I get people raving over it and asking for the recipe.
I still read your blog every day too! My 1 year anniversary is coming up on the 11th! 🙂
My favorite recipe is my Mom’s Cheeseball. It’s a recipe my great grandfather passed down to her and I hope one day to be able to replicate to a t how she does it.
Happy Blogversary!
happy anniversary!!! One year? That’s awesome!!!
Favorite family meal? chinese one pot meal that has rice, sausage and bok choy (I have the recipe in my blog). Why? because it’s so simple and my mom used to make it often when i was a kid! 🙂
i am addicted to spicy stuff (the reason why i eat habanero RAW).
i love your giveaway
and happy almost blogversary!
Biz, you made my night! Thanks for such a wonderful shout out – and I have to say, right back atcha! I can’t believe you are just now coming up on your one year blogiversary…I though you’d been around for much longer! Congrats!!!
The Mastercook sounds so cool! I had no idea that something like this even existed! My absolutely all-time favorite recipe is Lasagne from the old Betty Crocker cookbook. I make it about once a year (although I think I haven’t made it since I started my diet) and damn damn damn is it good! And cheesey! You would love it. I’m sure it’s about a million calories per serving, but hey, sometimes ya just have to have it! Oh, and it’s even better the next day, cold, right out of the fridge! Mmmm, I bet I dream of lasagne now!
That’s a fantastic giveaway! That software sounds amazing. I love things that have alllll the nutritional info right there. And SO COOL about TasteSpotting.
My favourite recipe to make is my apple banana bread recipe. I love it because it’s healthy, easy, tasty, and I made up the recipe on my own. Every time I make it, it reminds me that I can actually create things that are really awesome. I love that feeling.
Congrats on making it onto TasteSpotting! And what impressive numbers you reached in only one year! 🙂
My favorite “recipe” is my summer salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, edamame, red onions, salt, vinegar, olive oil & balsamic vinegar.) It’s soooo simple yet sooo good, and it truly says “summer.” Yes, I guess I’m a bit sentimental at the moment.. 🙂
I just recently discovered you – and love your blog.
My favorite recipe is probably sushi – unconventionally made with brown rice. I enjoy making my own. I also love any meal that has salmon (fresh, not farmed) – so much better than red meat. My tastes have changed so much over the years.
Congratulations on your anniversary! I don’t blog any longer. 😀
Oh exciting, counting down till the anniversary! ONe year, wow, that seems like so long. I have only been blogging since March and I feel like I’ve been doing it all my life, crazy.
Ok so my favorite recipe would HAVE to be my grandma’s lasagna. It really is better than any lasagna ever made. She’s no longer living, but I have the recipe. When I have a family, I will make it for them often. Her secret ingredient is cinnamon!
Happy Anniversary Biz!!
Congratulations on your blogiversary!
I’d love to be entered into the contest!
My favourite new recipe:
1/2 zucchini, julienned
1/2 yellow squash, julienned
1/2 red or yellow bell pepper, julienned
1/2 yellow onion, julienned
1 teaspoon minced garlic
Tabasco sauce (1/4 tsp)
Brown Rice (Prepared)
Spray a small skillet with PAM, toss in onions and saute for 5 minutes, then add all other ingredients EXCEPT rice.
Saute veggies until done.
Serve over brown rice for a lovely, low-fat, low-cal healthy dinner!
You had me at Tabasco! But I’d leave the onion out! 😀
I’ve never heard of MasterCook but it sounds absolutely amazing! Congrats on the almost year anniversary of your blog!!
Our favorite meal? Probably chicken parmsean. Everyone loves it!
I think I would choose between Tiramisu or White Chili- both family favorites-great and easy for every day, or for company. Thank you!
Sounds like a very spicy giveaway….
so if I get this program, this “master cook” as its called, then I will be able to cook like you?
I can’t wait can’t wait for Friday so I can jump up and down with you & congratulate you! That is a HUGE accomplishment!
As far as recipes go, I really enjoy the Hungry Girl Chicken Pot Pie and Sloppy Janes as well as anything using spagehtti squash for noodles. YUM!
Will link back to you on tomorrow’s post so that everyone can come over and wish you a happy BLOGIVERSARY!
Thanks Jen – you rock that you went to the gym!!!
If only your blog was as popular and heartwarming as mine.
Ha! I love you Joe!
Congratulations on your one year anniversary – that’s quite an achievement! My favorite recipe lately is Gardenburger Pinwheels – I’ve been making them for lunches and they are so wonderful.
I MUST HAVE MASTERCOOK!!!
Congrats on the blogiversary… and the tastespotting! Great day all around!
Congrats on your 1-year (almost) and the Tastespotting appearance! You deserve it 🙂
The salad looks delicious. I just discovered that I’m a blue cheese fan! I don’t really like many other cheeses (except parm) and that salad looks like it would be great with blue cheese.
Happy Tuesday!
