Bavette’s is hands down one of my favorite steakhouses in Chicago.
I am adding another page to my Chicago Dining section. It’s one of the questions I am asked most on Instagram. “Hey Biz, we are coming to Chicago – where should we go eat?”
Here’s the thing though, I don’t really eat downtown all that often. There are literally hundreds, thousands of restaurants in the city. I usually know a lot of them within a 6 block radius of my office, but I don’t live in Chicago. I live 45 miles away, so most days I just go to work and come home.
My friends Keri and Beth from work took me out for an early birthday on Wednesday. Bavette’s which is located in River North. This is a pricey restaurant, so save it for a special event, and make reservations weeks in advance if you don’t want to eat dinner at 5 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.
Since we were going after work, 5 worked just fine. We spent nearly 3 1/2 hours at dinner and it was so fun and delicious.
I stole that picture below off the internet because my photo had people in it – ha!
We started out with a cocktail. I had dinner with two followers last Friday and Jake ordered a French 75 and I had never heard of it. His however came in a martini glass – it’s gin, lemon and prosecco. Mine came in a giant glass!
They bring fresh, warm to the table, sourdough bread upon sitting down. OMG, I could have been fine with that basket and been a happy camper. The crust was insane.
We got the baked goat cheese and split a wedge salad for our appetizers. I am all about a wedge salad. I had totally forgotten about that – my late husband LOVED a wedge salad. He would have loved this because it had bacon croutons – what?!
We decided to each get a different entree and just split it up. I had read online that they had amazing fried chicken, and as much as that made me nervous (my husband used to tell me not to order lasagna in an Irish pub!) we got the boneless chicken thigh fried chicken with mashed potatoes, a double cut pork chop (didn’t get a picture of that!), and steak frites. Our sides: mushrooms and THE BEST BRUSSEL sprouts I’ve ever had. My mother in law Bonnie LOVES brussels sprouts and part of me thinks they were deep fried?
Thank you Keri and Beth for a fun night!
To recap: Bavette’s has awesome food, awesome service, $$$$, make a reservation well in advance!
Happy Friday friends – make it a great day!
