I didn’t do a regular meal plan this week since I cooked all day on Saturday, I had no desire to even think about food on Sunday. I ended up making a breakfast sammie on a dinner roll – egg beaters, ham, cheese and spinach. I picked up that fruit, I don’t know what the name of it was, but it is the size of a cantaloupe, looks like one from the outside, but tastes like a honeydew melon.
I am starting week 4 of Bite Size Fitness’s free strength program. Truth be told I am only following it about 70%, but some strength is better than none, right?
Then finished off with a 2.25 mile walk at 5% incline.
On my way to work I stopped at the store to get stuff off the salad bar – my favorite dressing was on sale too – Annie’s light Goddess – love that stuff!
For some reason when I was leaving the gym, I grabbed the monthly group fitness class schedule. I noticed that the Zumba class no longer had a $ sign next to it, which meant that the class was free to members. I’ve never taken a Zumba class before. I have good rhythm when it comes to music, but having my feet and arms do two different things at once? Um, not that coordinated. The class started at 5:00, but luckily my office is literally 1 minute from the gym, and she didn’t start on time. I have to tell you, I almost chickened out, but I put this picture on Instagram asking for pep talks, and you guys made me go to the class.
Well guess what? I loved it! It was a 50 minute class and it went by so fast, and I was even a bit sweaty at the end. I was able to keep up with about 90% of the moves – some of the fast paced salsa dancing was a bit confusing to me, but I know I’ll get better – the instructor must do some of the routines over and over because half of the class knew what was coming next. I’ll definitely go next Monday. I am glad I got outside my comfort zone – it’s easy to just stay where you feel safe, but how will you know you like something if you don’t jump outside that comfort zone every once in a while?
Did I mention that Hannah has a Pinterest page that says “stuff I want my Mom to make?” Basically a lot of dishes she’d like for me to try that she knows she will probably like. Last night was gnocchi with turkey sausage, spinach, red sauce and mozzarella cheese. I got this Jennie-O turkey sausage, it was really good and only 160 calories a link. While the water came to a boil for the gnocchi, I sauteed the sausage. When that was almost done, I threw in the pasta sauce, chopped baby spinach, and then tossed in the cooked gnocchi and sprinkled with about an ounce of mozzarella cheese and stirred it all together. It was the first time Jacob had ever had gnocchi and he had two helpings – he loved it!
And did you know that yesterday was National Popcorn Day? So I made some popcorn and used Cabot’s popcorn cheese on it – so good!
I got my steps in and then some yesterday!
Tomorrow is my WI day – hopefully there will be a loss this week! Gotta scoot – I didn’t put my food or gym bag together last night, and I still have to take a shower and I have to leave in 20 minutes – no problem! Make it a great day! And thanks for all your kind words about Leila yesterday – I really appreciate it. This is her big sister – Hannah and Jacob babysat yesterday afternoon – now Dahlia will get all the love!
Late reply but i had to give you an “atta girl” for trying zumba. And now you found another way to work up a sweat. I just love the music.
Wow, gonna have to try the Cabot’s cheese powder!!
I have a few Zumba classes on DVD and every time I do one, I love it.
Good for you leaving your comfort zone, very well done, proud of you.
Thanks Fran!
Good for you for trying zumba!!! You’re braver than I am! 🙂
Gosh that Dahlia is precious.
Thanks Courtney – yep, Dahlia is a fighter – born 4 months premature and only weighed 1.2 pounds!
Biz, first off my heart goes out to Jacob and his family for their loss. I loved your comment about the cornea donation and the thought that maybe that person will cure cancer. I’m a true believer in things like that. That sometimes no matter how sad, that they happen for a reason.
“clapping” for you that you did the Zumba class, you inspire me and I’m really planning to get active! I’m a YMCA member and don’t use it to the extent that I should! Truth be told, I don’t use it at all! But you have inspired me! HUGS!
Thanks – and here’s how I look at the gym – I need to get my money’s worth. The gym by me is $68 a month. If I only went twice a month, that would be $34 a workout – so crazy! But if I go 20 times in a month, it’s only $3.80 a workout. 😀 Money motivates me!
I love that Annie’s salad dressing too! So yummy.
I went to a free class at my gym last week too…it was a kickboxing class, and some women from work convinced me to try it out. IT WAS SO HARD! I definitely should go back because it was a GREAT workout, but I definitely felt my lack of coordination. 😀 Glad zumba was great for you!
That’s how I felt the first time I did a Bosu class – but after several goes at it, I actually got quite good on it!
Proof of exactly how Bizzy you are. GREG
Can I just say how much I love the fact that Hannah has a “to do list” pinterest page for you?! Awesome idea!!!
Lauren, it makes meal planning so easy!
I Love love love Zumba. I am so happy that you had fun. It is by far my favorite workout because it goes by so quickly. 🙂
Karli, I actually thought I’d be looking at the clock thinking “30 more minutes?!” but that never happened! p.s. I love the peppermint Burt’s Bee chap-stick you sent me 😀
I love Zumba – if you have a good instructor it’s so much fun! These days I’m going twice a week and walking on the other days. Great job!
The instructor was super fun, which is what made the class I think!
I am so glad you stuck it out and stayed for Zumba!
My deepest condolences to Jacob’s and your family on the loss of that beautiful little soul. I like what you said about her corneas being donated to another baby who may just cure cancer. I truly believe things like that.
Thanks Christina – I agree, I have to try to put a positive spin on a tragedy just so I can cope with it – I remember thinking that I was looking forward of taking pictures of her in natural light instead of my icky indoor lighting. 🙁
I’ve never had gnocchi – not sure if it is pasta or potatoes?!
I tried Zumba last summer and actually enjoyed it even though I have zero rhythm. On the shimmy type moves I just added in some extra hops:)
Hope your week is going great!
It’s actually potatoes Kim – pillows of goodness if you ask me!
Way to step out of your comfort zone, Biz! I did the same with ice skating recently.
You have inspired me though to get my but back to Zumba! We have a gym right up the street that does a class on Monday nights. I keep telling myself I’ll go, but haven’t made the effort yet. Here’s to getting there next week!
I’ll hold you to it Brooke – I’ll check on you next Tuesday to see if you went! 😀
I keep wanting to try zumba, but I never get around to it. I have an Elaine Benes style dance 😀
Ha! I am not that bad, but pretty close 😀
Yay!! I’m so glad you went to Zumba. I used to go every week. I loved it. I even took a class with the founder of Zumba when we were in the Bahamas. It is so much fun.
Biz, I’m so sorry about Jacob’s niece. My heart goes out the the family. I just can’t imagine what they are going through.
I hope you have a wonderful day!!
Wow, how cool is that – not sure which I am more jealous of – doing it with the founder, or being in the Bahamas!
Ha! We had popcorn yesterday without even knowing it was national popcorn day.
That gnocchi looks good.
I love dancing, and have pretty awesome rhythm. For some reason, Zumba is harder – it’s almost like some of the moves are backwards, or counter-intuitive, or something. Like they are moving body parts in the wrong direction. All of the twisting and such – I totally sprained my knee a year ago, so no more for me.
I LOVE Goddess dressing. I buy Trader Joe’s brand. Definitely one of my favorites. I mostly make my own dressing but make an exception for Goddess and ranch.
There is a national food day every day – today is National Clam Chowder Day, and yesterday was National Cheese Day! Probably my favorite day of all. 😀
I’ll have to check out the TJ’s brand next time I go.
Glad you enjoyed the Zumba class. I used to go years ago and had a great time. You really do get to know the routines after a while. And it’s a nice change from walking. 🙂 That gnocchi dish looks awesome!
I agree Christine – it was a nice change of pace!
I never thought I’d see the day when you couldn’t face cooking! Luckily it only lasted for one day, LOL. Love Hannah’s Pinterest board for you – bet you’re having fun creating meals for her and Jacob!
And GO YOU for trying Zumba!!! I’m impressed. 🙂
I know Shelley – as shocking as that sounds, there are times when I don’t feel like cooking. Thankfully Jacob loves meat as much as I do – much to Hannah’s dismay! 😀
Good for you on the zumba class! I would have chickened out, but I am easily intimidated.
Thanks Dana!
So sad to hear about another loss 🙁
Good for you for taking Zumba and so glad you loved it! Group fitness is the best (IMO!). That gnocchi looks so darn good. Good luck at the WI!
I knew you would be happy about the group class E! 😀
I love Zumba! But I’ve always loved to dance. I don’t think it matters if you get every step right as long as you have fun!
Helen, if I didn’t know the move, I just tapped my toes in place – I kept moving and I figured that’s all that mattered 😀
I’m so glad you gave Zumba a try! I used to go for a few years and you definitely learn the routines for each song. Sadly, now it doesn’t work for my schedule and Crossfit does.
Your food always looks delicious!
My friend keeps trying to talk me into doing Cross-fit – it makes me scared though!
