A friend of mine invited a few people over for yappy hour last night. I was only going to stay “for a couple.” I looked at the clock and it was like 7:30 and I still had Chex mix to make last night.
Next thing I know it’s 10:30! I had no idea it had gotten so late, that I had so many glasses of wine and too little to eat.
I drove home. What an asshole move. My friend only lives a few miles away, but I probably could have been pulled over, or worse, gotten into an accident.
Tony was obviously pissed with good reason. Not that I stayed out, but that I didn’t call him to come pick me up. If I was pulled over for DUI it would have been thousands of dollars and a license suspension – all for happy hour?
Tony, I apologize for my behavior. It was dumb and irresponsible.
Me thinks I should quit drinking.
I’m sure this was a difficult post to write. I too commend you for your honesty. We are human and we make mistakes. Glad you were ok.
I think we have all been in your situation. Not that it is right, but we learn from our mistakes. You are forgiven:)
It’s awful when we do something that disappoints our husbands. It’s the worst feeling!
(You should probably delete this post – I’m sure your boss would advise you that..)
As everyone said, the important thing is that you learned from it. And by writing about it and putting it out there, you also reminded all of us to plan ahead! It’s an important reminder, especially this time of the year.
We’ve all been there. Just listen to Tony and don’t do it again, we love you! 🙂
I drove home from a party once 13 years ago. Same situation, drank too much, ate too little, and it was just a few miles. Nothing happened (thank God!), but it still scared the sh*t out of me and I never did it again. Glad you’re OK!!!
*HUGS*
Oh Vat!!! Took a whole lotta guts to post this on here. Glad you made it home safe and sound! Hugs.
OK, you are human! Learn from it and move on. Hugs to you Biz!
I am glad you made it home safe and sound, Biz. Drinking and driving is a subject near and dear to me (I lost a cousin to a drunk driver when he was only 16!), but I honestly can’t say that I have never driven when I shouldn’t have. We all make mistakes and can only hope that the better decision is made next time. Hugs.
Ugh Biz….don’t drink and drive!! Think about what you’d tell Hannah (probably something along the lines of “it doesn’t matter what time it is, call us and we’ll come get you!”). I completely understand the getting caught up yapping and losing track of time thing though!
I am sure it feels good to get that off your chest. I did something like that about 30 years ago and it scared me. I haven’t drank and drove ever again. If we are out I am always the designated driver. I want to be sure and get home safely.
Let it be a scare that makes a change for you.
Glad you realized this! Don’t do it again missy!
Oh no! It is difficult to admit you are wrong so I think it is brave of you to admit that to all of us. I know at times it is easy to get caught up in the moment. Sometimes it takes something like this for us to realize that we need to be safe.
You are brave. I dont drink at all. I think growing up with a mother who drank too much and did too many drugs is partly to blame. I kinda have a zero tolerance for it, but I can understand why people do drink. I am ok with social drinking, its drinking to numb or forget that I have a major issue with. Its the balance that is so hard for a lot of people. Isnt drinking really bad for diabetics? That is what I always though anyway. I hope you are feeling better today.
Yikes!!!! We actually all haven’t been there as I don’t drink. I abhor what alcohol can do to a person.
That said I have made mistakes (many) that took my breath away when I’ve thought how they could have wound up differently (for the worse).
So yes we can all relate to the mistakes we foolishly make.
Learn from it, forgive yourself and move on. We all love you!
You know me. I always have comment. Everyday.
Today? Not so much.
Sorry.
Glad to hear you and everyone else are safe! Brave of you to admit a mistake on the internet. We all make mistakes, important thing is that we learn from them!
Brave woman to own up on the blog. Thank goodness no one was hurt!
“Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.” The best you can do is put it behind you, learn from it, and move forward with the new lesson. Make the best out of this speed bump in this crazy ride of life!!
Biz, we’ve all been there and way to own up to it. Just don’t do it again! My uncle ruined his life and killed his best friend in a drunk driving accident. Not fun.
We’ve all done dumb things. I quit drinking the last time my alcoholic mother went into the hospital. That’s not to say I’ll never have wine again. But, it’s lost it’s luster for me.
I concur Brave girl! We have all been there and personally flogged ourselves for it. and counted our blessings that bad things did not happen. Its the holidays you can’t quit drinking completely. Lets be real…:) you will make better decisions next time and you will maybe cut back to feel better. To lay off completely would only set you up for another disaster and overindulgence. Love your blog girly.
We all do dumb things but what’s important that we learn from our mistakes so that we don’t repeat ourselves. I think you got your dose of reality and I know that you have learned. Don’t beat yourself up about this…give yourself a nice scolding (though, confessing to the interwebs kind of covers that) and move on.
And there is no reason to quit drinking unless you have a substance use problem….which you don’t. So it’s perfectly fine to still enjoy your wine. Besides, it’s sometimes better to enjoy wine in the comfort of your pajamas in front of the tv, safe and sound at home 🙂
Brave girl. What a confession. We all mess up Biz, but the difference is that you have learned, and understand the consequence. Teach your kids, let them see you are real, and call Tony, or me;-) if you need a ride. Have a great Friday!!
It takes a lot to admit a mistake like that, especially on the internet. Everyone makes mistakes. You were lucky not to hurt yourself, or anyone else, and now you know NOT to do it again. EVER.
Thank you for your honesty!
I completely understand how easy it is to get caught up in the moment and then the next thing you know…. I’m sure many of us have been there, done that. But ABSOLUTELY YES, you should have called Tony – we wouldn’t want to get some terrible news about you Biz!
Hmmmm stopping drinking… well I’ve stopped for the most part during the Zero Excuses Challenge – except for 1 glass of wine or 1 cocktail on Saturday night. Even though alcohol is considered Paleo to some extent, I just feel that it inhibits weight loss. At least consider reducing the wine to 1 evening a week maybe? When you’re home or have a designated driver of course!
Hugs.
