Yep, today is weigh in day since its the first of the month. Is it just me or can you believe we are already at May 1st already??!!
That’s right, I lost a whopping 1.2 the month of April! I know I have commented on some of your blogs about this, but I recently looked back to my WW journals from 1999-2000. On April 1, 1999 I weighed in at 210 pounds. On May 1, 2010 I weighed in at 132. I lost 68 pound in 11 months. When I looked at my journals, one thing stood out immediately – I never drank alcohol. The second thing I noticed was that I was working out on average about 90 minutes a day.
I would ride my bike to the train station (1.5 miles one way), I would walk to my office from the train station (1.0 one way), I walked for 45 minutes during lunch, and then after Hannah went to bed I usually did a 30 minute DVD. This past week I kicked up my exercise a notch, but I really need to go the extra step.
I remember when Shelley was at a plateau for what seemed like months! But she started working with a trainer doing things she wouldn’t do on her own – like burpees – which she and I still hate! 😀
So two things I vow for the month of May – drink less and move more! 😀
Yesterday for breakfast I realized we had leftover steak, so I made two steak breakfast burritos: 2 low carb tortillas, 3 ounce stead, 1 slice pepper jack cheese, baby spinach and egg beaters – with a delicious orange on the side!
Lunch was leftover Chinese from last night with one of my egg rolls – the veggies kind of tasted like ass because they became too soggy from sitting in the to go container. I ate about half of this, but the whole egg roll! Lunch comes in at 447 calories, 65 carbs, 25 protein, 8.9 at and 2.3 fiber.
I had some whole wheat pizza dough in my fridge, so putting together a pizza for dinner was a snap! My pizza: 4 ounce whole wheat dough, 1/2 ounce diced pepperoni, 1/4 cup diced red pepper, chopped baby spinach, 1 ounce of goat cheese mozzarella and 1/2 ounce of Cabot’s hot habanero cheese! 😀
And 12 minutes later:
Stats for Friday:
- 20 minutes AM Pilates
- 45 minute walk at work
- 1,424 calories, 163 carbs, 82 protein, 48 fat and 25 fiber
- drink less alcohol
- move more
- be 159 or less by June 1
What are your May goals?
Tony and I are headed out to the store – come back tomorrow for my artichoke pasta recipe! In my head it turns out great, but we’ll see! Have a great Saturday!
Oh gosh, alcohol is a killer for me, too. Not only is it just added calories, but it makes me feel more uninhibited and I stop caring about what I put in my mouth. Not good!
You’ll do it, Biz, I know it! 🙂
I think you are doing AWESOME….when you get closer to your goal, your weight loss slows. But, I think the key is to mix it up…..looking at what works and doesn’t. Your May goals look great and totally do-able. Now that the weather is nicer, you might be able to bike to the train again….that is if you still live near it 🙂
Its good to know I am not the only one who has kept her WW journals forever 😉
I think you and I have similar needs to lose weight. When I lost a lot of weight at a nice, steady pace I was working out about 90 minutes a day and I wasn’t drinking…I wasn’t even 21 🙂 I think I should work on both of those things this month..less fun, more run! 😉
My may goal is to move more too – I’ve gotten lazy…or maybe school is consuming every ounce of energy I have haha!
You are doing great though – I bet you can reach all of those goals, easy!
Don’t sell yourself short, Biz. It’s harder to lose weight after the initial spike downhill. It’s always easy to drop pounds like crazy the first few months, but then the weight drop always tapers off. At least you’re still heading down the right direction, without you having to do anything drastic! That’s the surest way to KEEP those pounds off!
Oh I wanted to ask what program do you use to keep track of kcals, etc?
I use http://www.caloriecount.com – I love it and the best part is it’s free!
You really are awesome! way to go for all you’ve done! You always have such wonderful eats, I’ve wanted to try goat mozzarella. Is it much different than regular?
Yep – it is slightly sour like goat cheese, but it melts as good as mozzarella! 😀
Aww congratulations Beth!!!! I’m so happy for all the progress you’ve made!! Keep it up!!! You should be so proud of yourself my dear. 🙂 Keep doin’ what you’re doin’ and definitely keep eating all the amazing food you’ve been making!! *drool* 🙂
When I lost my weight, it came off SO slowly…only 1.5 to 2 pounds a month! But, in the long run I’ve maintained and continued to lose a few additional..just by continuing to tone/exercise. I would definitely hate having to exercise for 90 minutes a day! Moderation in my diet, giving up pop, exercising, and still having some type of sweet a day..keeps me going 🙂
12 pounds in 30 days is freaking amazing. that shows right there that u put a LOT of hard work into it. and hard work pays off. u are amazing! ur gonna look incredible by the time summer rolls around- and u must feel so proud of yourself for accomplishing such a huge feat. i know we are all 🙂 xoxo <3
I’ll join you in getting below 159 this month! Last month I made it all the way down to 159.5 but I am jogging between 159.5-160 grrr. I stepped up my weight training and cut down on cardio may have to up the cardio some but I lost inches.
That would also be my suggestion to you take out your tape measure and do your inches today its May 1st then you’ll know for sure your getting smaller June 1st!
That’s a great idea Susan! 😀
I hate burpees too but still have to do them alot at crossfit. I need to move even more to get rid of this last few inches around my middle. Good for you all changing things up a bit and on the weight loss!!
Any loss is better than no loss! For May I’m hoping to lose 13+ pounds so I can run my HM at the same weight or better than 3 years ago. I’m also cranking up the training this month. Here’s to us both hitting our goals!
I never thought about using habanero on pizza! I’ll have to fix that very soon. 🙂
Cheering you on for an AWESOME May!
i think it’s so cool that you kept such an in-depth journal that you can refer back to. it’s great that you saw the alchol and exercise issues and you can make adjustments if you want to.
nonetheless, a loss for the month is a loss!
You’ve probably been asked this before and it’s probably on your blog but on what program do you enter your food and get your nutritional results? I looked all over your blog and I didn’t see it. It sounds interesting. Thanks!
It’s http://www.caloriecount.com – it’s free and I absolutely love it! You can add recipes to get nutritional info too! 😀
I think the alcohol part is huge. I’ve heard it can wreak havoc on the metabolism. But of course there’s other doctors who say a glass of wine a day is actually good for you. Who knows, but it’s at least worth a try! Good luck with your May goals!! Of course I’ll be cheering you on along the way!! 🙂
Yay! Congrats on the loss, Biz!
That was great you kept your WW journals so you could go back and review them…what a good idea. I LOVE the idea of moving more, and I think I will join you in your challenge by going on a walk at least once during the day while at work. And the bonus is I can get away from my desk and de-stress!
OK, it’s you, me, Lori and Debby who are on board this month with actually LOSING SOME WEIGHT…we can do it! Boy, you did do a lot of exercise back when you dropped your major pounds! I need to start moving more – I’m good at the beginning of the week, but then it really drops off. I sure hope we all will be posting a good loss in a month!
That’s awesome Biz! I’ve been at the same weight for 3 weeks and it’s driving me nuts. I’ll join you on the less alcohol and moving more bandwagon. I resigned up for WW too, so we’ll see how that goes.
i want a steak breakfast burrito! YUM!
