Apple Waffle Dippers

As soon as I saw these apple waffle dippers on Feeding Tiny Bellies Instagram, I knew I had to make them.  While our waffle recipes are similar, below is my adaptation of her recipe.  Thanks for the inspo!

After watching her video, Hannah and I determined that we loved these apple waffle dippers reheated in the air fryer.  While the dippers are crisp right out of the waffle maker, because of the moisture in the apples, the waffle batter quickly became soft.  So these will be perfect for meal prep.  Make a couple dozen of these, cook them in the waffle maker, let cool and store until ready to reheat in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 6 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • apples (I love using Sugar Bee apples, but honeycrisp would be delish too!)
  • sugar
  • flour
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • egg
  • milk (we used unsweetened almond milk)
  • butter
  • vanilla extract

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

These apple waffle dippers are the perfect combination of crispy, golden waffle goodness and sweet, cinnamon sugar coated apples.  Thinly sliced apples are dipped in waffle batter, cooked until slightly golden, then brush with melted butter and tossed in a cinnamon sugar for a delicious treat that feels like a cross between apple pie and a fresh waffle.  They’re easy to make, freezer-friendly, and even better when reheated in the air fryer.  Serve them with your favorite syrup for dipping, and you’ll have a fun breakfast or snack the whole family will love.

While these take a bit of time to make, 1000% worth it! Thinly sliced apples dipped into waffle batter, then brushed with melted butter and cinnamon sugar. We found we liked them best out of the air fryer, making these the perfect meal prep for the week.

Ingredients

  • 3 large apples
  • 1.25 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond milk)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • for the dipping:
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Prepare the apples: Wash and thinly slice the apples into approximately 1/8 inch slices. Set aside.

Make the Waffle Batter: In a large bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Add the egg, milk, one tablespoon melted butter and vanilla extract and stir just until combined.

Prepare the cinnamon sugar: In a small bowl, mix together the 3 tablespoons sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon.

Dip and Cook: Preheat your waffle maker according to manufacturer's instructions. Dip each apple slice into the waffle batter, coating both sides. Place the battered apple slices in the waffle maker, leaving space between them as needed. Close the waffle maker and cook until the waffle coating is slightly golden brown and cooked through.

Finish the dippers: Carefully remove the apple waffle dippers and brush both sides with the remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter. Immediately toss in the cinnamon sugar mixture until lightly coated.

Cool and store: Allow the apple waffle dippers to cool completely, then place them in a zip-top bag. Store in the refrigerator until ready to eat.

Reheat: Preheat your airfryer to 400 degrees. Place the apple waffle dippers in the air fryer in a single layer and cook for 6 minutes, or until warmed through and lightly crisp. Enjoy with your favorite syrup.
