Homemade Snickers Bars

These homemade snickers bars are as if a Twix and a Snickers had a baby.  And I am not mad about it!  I first made this recipe for The Chopping Block.  If you would have asked when I posted that recipe on their website I would have said three years ago.  It was NINE years ago!  So crazy!

One of the reasons I love this homemade Snickers bar so much is because anyone can make it and no fancy skills required. The base is just a simple shortbread that you mix together and bake, and after that, the entire recipe comes together in the microwave. No tempering chocolate, no stovetop caramel drama, no specialty tools. It’s the perfect treat for beginners, busy people, or anyone who just wants a ridiculously good candy bar without the stress.

Homemade Snickers Bars

Yield: 24 pieces
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Additional Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

These homemade snnickers bars taste like a twix and a snickers had a baby. This recipe is perfect for the novice baker, because it's only the shortbread that needs to be baked. Everything else is melted in the microwave!

Ingredients

  • For the shortbread layer:
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugr
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • For the caramel layer:
  • 1 (11 ounce) bag caramels, wrapping removed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dry roasted peanuts (salted)
  • For the chocolate layer:
  • 12 ounce good quality milk chocolate chips (I used Ghirardelli)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Line a 9x9 baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Cream together the butter, sugar, flour, salt and vanilla until fully incorporated.
  3. Press the shortbread mixture into the bottom of the lined baking dish and cook for 20 minutes, or until sliighly golden.
  4. Remove from oven and let cool.
  5. Place the caramels and the cream in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Pour over the shortbread mixture. Add peanuts and press into the caramel. Refrigerate for one hour.
  6. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30 second increments until melted. Pour over caramel nut mixture and spread evenly. Refrigerate for another hour or overnight.
  7. Remove from dish and using a sharp knife, cut into squares.

NOTE:

I didn’t use the right size pan, so my shortbread crust layer is a bit thick, but these still are so tasty!

New Here?

If you are new here, welcome to My Bizzy Kitchen! I started this blog 16 years ago to document my recipes and daily life, never imagining it would one day become my full-time career. After losing my husband nearly 10 years ago, I navigated the hardest chapter of my life while still finding joy in cooking and sharing my journey.

In December 2020, I took a leap of faith and left my 30-year career as a legal secretary to pursue My Bizzy Kitchen full-time, a decision that changed my life.

Two years later, in October 2022, I was able to hire my daughter, Hannah, full-time, which brings me so much joy. Now, My Bizzy Kitchen is more than just recipes.  It’s about embracing life, finding balance, and making healthy living sustainable and fun.
