Air Fried Shrimp Wontons

If you’ve ever tried making wontons with a filling, you know the struggle—meticulously crimping each one, only to have the filling spill out or the wrappers refuse to stay sealed. It can feel like more effort than it’s worth! But these air-fried shrimp wontons take the easy path to deliciousness. Instead of fussing with intricate folds, a simple fold-and-press method keeps everything intact, creating perfectly crispy, golden bites without the mess. With just a handful of ingredients and an air fryer, you’ll have a batch of irresistibly crunchy shrimp wontons in no time—no frustration required!  Best part?  Only 1 Weight Watchers point each!

Ingredients:

  • shrimp (I prefer frozen) thawed

Air Fried Shrimp Wontons

Yield: 10 shrimp balls
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 7 minutes

The inspiration for this dish is from Pete Eats - I adjusted his recipe just a bit by air frying the shrimp balls instead of deep frying, leaving out the sugar and adding hoisin sauce. Each shrimp ball is only 1 WW point, no matter how many you have. Eat the whole serving for 10 points if you like - no judgment here!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 egg roll wrappers

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp Mixture:

In a food processor, combine the shrimp, cornstarch, sesame oil, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and garlic.
Pulse until the mixture forms a slightly chunky paste. (Alternatively, finely mince the shrimp and mix well with the other ingredients.)

Form the Shrimp Balls:

Using a small melon baller or spoon, scoop out portions of the shrimp mixture and roll them into balls.

Coat with Egg Roll Wrappers:

Spread a few strips of egg roll wrapper on a cutting board.
Place a shrimp ball on top, then layer more wrapper strips over it.
Gently press and roll to coat the shrimp ball evenly with the wrapper strips.

Air Fry the Shrimp Balls:

Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking.
Arrange the shrimp balls in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they don’t touch.
Air fry for 7-9 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Serve & Enjoy:

Let the shrimp balls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce!

Notes

As of the date of this post, each one is only 1 WW point. The WW app is down at the moment, but I will update the WW tracker as soon as the app is running.

These shrimp wontons were so easy to make, would be great as an appetizer, side dish to a veggie stir fry, or as a main dish with cooked rice and zucchini.
